    Sam I believe you are getting confused. A 60Kwh NMC battery will have identical capacity and thus range to a 60Kwh LFP battery, but should be smaller in size due to better energy density. The LFP could actually give a higher range due to less need for a buffer to protect battery life

    • @Jeddin

    Packaging is actually very impressive. The boot space is measured to the parcel shelf (VDA standard) so it’s much larger than in the Model 3 which measures to the roof. It’s actually comparable to the boot space in the much larger Model Y (ca 550 litres using VDA).

    If the Scenic is anything like the Zoe, then the Renault claimed range will be pessimistic. A ZE50 has a claimed range of about 245 miles, but I see closer to 275 miles for most of the year.

    Scenic used to be a proper MPV for the family - I had an early one 20 years ago and in it’s time it was a great car and had more space and versatility than similar sized cars.
    This version whilst it looks nice, it’s just another mis-sized crossover with nothing to differentiate it from others. Shame really, it could have been a class leader if they’d actually made an EV version of the ICE Scenic.

    As a Tesla S and 3 owner I consider this to be the first real Tesla beater. Over 300 miles real world range. I do consider it a Y competitor. It’s half the price of a Y LR to lease. Great tech in it and lovely inside.

    I had a Scenic as a company car about 20 years ago. It was a 105bhp diesel. The gearbox died after a couple years of normal use. Apparently that same gearbox was also used in diesel Scenics with lower bhp. It couldn’t handle the torque of the 105bhp so it died. It was fixed but it was never the same after that. Especially reverse. I asked the dealership who would have picked up the bill if I had bought that car privately. He told me that would be me as it was out of warranty. Worst part: apparently the gearbox issue was a known issue with Renault. The next-gen Scenic got a new 6 box.
    I’ll probably never drive a Renault again although I like this car and the Megane E-Tech in the looks department. Only problem is: if you spec the Megane E-Tech with some options the price falls into Model 3 territory. Which means that you might as well buy a Model 3 because it’s just more efficient.

      That's also my main issue with the scenic name. I'll never forget the time my dad's diesel scenic ended up with full throttle on the motorway and didn't stop when at the side of the road with ignition off. Took 6 attempts to stall the car by which time we had police and fire services with us. Also didn't drive well, felt like a whale around corners. Put me right off.
      Having said that my brother had a little clio which was fabulous. So not put off renault completely.

Other problem with EPA is that Tesla uses the 5 cycle test (yields higher estimates) while OEMs use 2 cycle test so using EPA as a comparison tool between Tesla and OEMs is not optimal.

    ONE Battery from Michigan makes LFP battery packs that get 350 miles on 90Kwh battery packs and their Gemini battery product gets way more than that for same size. There are things you can do with battery chemistry (mix type of cells) and battery pack architecture to get more our of similar batteries/

    • @TheCostofAutism
      @TheCostofAutism Před rokem +1

      Reality is that you can't really get range numbers from JUST the battery. Most manufacturers have their own versions of cooling systems integrated into the Battery pack. A Tesla Octovalve based system is going to be MUCH more energy efficient than practically anything else. Additionally, the Motors make a HUGE difference with Tesla again having just about THE most efficient motors in the industry. Finally, depending on how many MCU's are in the car (Master Control Units), power management is going to be dramatically impacted. Tesla again leads here, consistently bundling MCU's together to reduce the number of Circuit boards in the car. A perfect example of this is how the Model Y is getting BETTER range using the a smaller battery pack than the BYD Atto 3, even though BYD actually manufactures the both batteries! To top it off, the Atto 3 is a smaller, lighter car.

    @robertimrie3710 Před rokem +2

    Viking, Megane is like the outback train, the Ghan, and Ariya is like the opera. Small details, but its very distracting. As for energy density, 60 kWh usable is the capacity, energy density will just impact on what the battery weighs and how much space it takes up, not the energy it holds. As for why the Renault is less efficient, keep in mind that at 50km/h up to 90% of the energy used is to push air out the way. Given all the research that you clearly enjoy doing maybe let yourself do a little light digging around the topic. Not suggesting you become engineering explained, but it makes for more informed comments. Personally my interest is sustainability so efficiency while retaining sufficient utility is my main interest. Yes, we need to convince people to buy EVs so they need to be compelling, and I am a sucker for a nice car, but personally I think the Citroen Oli is closer to the sweet spot for the average person, 1000kg, 40kWh, 400km range, although a little more aero wouldn't hurt as that range is most likely in traffic. Great channel, I'm just being picky 😊
