Jesse, I have viewed most, if not all of your reviews of the Deep Purple tracks from the album = 1. Love watching your expressions and enthusiasm for the new album. Will recommend to my friends to view your reviews to those who are still on the fence. Terrific album. I agree. Got my copy now

Your enthusiasm for Deep Purple's new album is great to watch, Jesse. I got into DP in 1974 and the band was, in fact, the first live act I ever saw. I drifted away after "House of Blue Light" for some reason but have been trying to catch up with the Morse era albums. The release of the three singles off "= 1", which were all excellent and reminded me of the "Fireball"/"Machine Head" period, got me excited and made me feel young again so, of course, I pre-ordered the album. I was also curious about new guitarist Simon McBride who hails from Belfast where I was born. Anyway, the new album is even better than I could have imagined. Every track is a winner, from the exciting opener to the stunning final song. Simon has brought a new energy to the band and his blues rock background is so compatible with the styles of the other members. It's not just that he is a gutsy rocker. He has great subtlety as well and his melodic and passionate solos on the ballads are especially touching. He is a great professional who can adapt his playing to whatever a song requires. Is this album a classic? I personally think so. I have played it solidly since I bought it and I'm not tired of any of the songs. The excellent song structures, the great production by the legendary Bob Ezrin, the sheer talent of the band, firing on all cylinders, the enthusiasm that saturates "= 1", the confidence and swagger of old - this is an album for the ages. I hope, when the touring has finished, that the band commits to doing another album because on their current form they can do no wrong.

For me it’s this song , portable door and a bit on side , the rest are gap fillers to me. 😂 hear this album and after that purpendicular or now what?! It’s a big difference in my opinion. It’s not about Simon McBride, it’s because of the songs general. They aren’t creative as a band than before. You won’t here big musical compositions like „the surprising“ or hymns like birds of prey ect. Just riffs , solos, end… but it’s ok if other people like it. 😃👍

I have just gotten into them but imo all the singles are super creative with a great amount of modern spin on them. Its certainly not something that sounds like its stuck in the past. You didnt claim that I am just saying. Simon Mc Bride is a beast of a player. Again I dont have much comparison but I think from what I have heard from the older stuff he brings a ton of evolution to the band. Lazy Sod is probably my favourite track together with this one. In Lazy Sod its really obvious how they take something that could be boring and twist it into something really interesting. Bleeding Obvious is just straight up innovative. They have done proggier stuff as I understand but are not known for it
