  • In this video I show the difference between 1k auto paint and 2k auto paint. 1k paints have been around for a long time and is an older method of spray painting. It is safe to spray at home or garage and you can also get a great finish.
    In this video I go into detail the differences and how to get that 1k acrylic looking awesome.

    I painted my car with 1k a year ago in my garage. I'd never painted before, just learned from CZcams. A year later it still looks awesome and its easy to fix mistakes and damage with thee acrylic. 2k hardens on your lungs and your neighbours lungs if you don't have a proper booth. It's not worth the risk.

    I'm impressed that you talk about the safety hazards of 2k paint. I wasn't initially aware of this until I did some research before improving my classic car. I'm disappointed that most other 2k paint demonstrations on you tube do not mention this very important subject! I'm happy to use 1k paint with protective clothing, nitrile gloves and a filtered face mask at home. However I have found that some 1k epoxy primers still contain he dreaded iso stuff. Keep making this very informative and useful videos.

    Im flabbergasted lol only three days wait for acrylic before wet sanding with only 1200 grit, then compounding for a great finish. I'm no expert but I have to wait at least a week, start with 1200 then go 1500 then 2000 and even 2500, then compound and I still get scratches on the finish. You make it look easy! Great job!

    I watched another video comparing 1k and 2k. One tip was 2k is resistant to solvents. That’s important for automotive use. The buffing of the clear on 1k gave great results. I may try on the one k application that I’ve already applied. I had one spray can of 2k and it worked great. Maybe buffing later will improve the finish. You’ve got an amazing set up but I’m not able to do that so DIY is where I’m at.

    Great video I been stuck on a backyard project trying to decide on 1k vs 2k since I know 2k give a better of the gun result. But after what you said that most likely you will need to polish the 2k aswell then maybe safety could be better and use 1k. So for me I’ll use 1k since I don’t have Booth at home only have a good mask but my neighbour I’m sure doesn’t. So maybe 1k is more considerate for us backyard project guys

If I build a temporary spray booth in my shop for a job this winter, is there a heat source that is ‘safest?’ I will have an exhaust fan and intake fan for the booth, and the heat source will be outside the spray booth. Also, is it best to source paint like Duplicolor, or should a guy be finding a ‘paint store’ for paints? Thank you.

  • @jzpwhyyouwantmysurname3638

    Great vid, thanks. Do you have any experience with iso-free 2k? It's meant to be not so harmful, but I am curious whether it gives equally good finish. Sanding is OK on a flat panel, but for example can't imagine doing wheels like this, not to mention durability difference.

I am switching to 2k type paints and have used "solid" colour ones successfully. I now want to use "Base" colour" and "Clear-coat" . QUESTION: at 2:18 you mix the base coat with "REDUCER"...Is this the same as the HARDENER the primer and clear coats require...OR is it just a THINNER and the base coat is simply a 1K type?....Much appreciate it if you can explain please. many thanks...

  • @deel152
    @deel152 Před 3 lety +1

    So the 2K primer can take the place of the body filler, etch primer and the puddy?
    So if let's say you had deep chips in the paint or paint damage that goes down to the primer. For example I had some deeps chips gauges in the rear hatch of my 2015 Toyota Rav 4. would I sand those areas to the primer or to the metal then use the 2 K primer filler ,let it dry and use just 600 grit to smooth out those areas then finally paint and clear coat?
    Last question . Can I use a 2K primer then use 1 k paint and 2K clear coat?
    Thank you
