Capital One Arena's floor is under street level so the ceiling and capacity are fairly high. There is natural light windows on the lower and middle concourses but none on the upper level.
Capital One Arena will remain open for Georgetown, concerts, and Mystics games if the Wiz/Caps move out.

That did sound depressing lol. Not agreeing with you on Moda Center. It was fairly recently vastly renovated. They like it in Portland. The Delta Center was also recently updated - although having a boring outside look, the inside is quite cool and the upper deck is placed in a really cool way, steep above the court. Wasn't pretty though in summer of 99 where a tornado actually blew out many of it's windows and punctured it's roof. Smoothie King Center is probably lowest but the interior does have some nice deep south feel to it though. That being said, I agree with your take on the horrible idea of "picnic tables". NBA arenas in recent years have generally not done good jobs of updating their interior with those things that basically distract fans from the actual game plus darkening the crowds which almost makes arenas look empty.

  • @RaulSmith

The Delta Center has one of the most unique aspects in the league in that the sound acoustics help to amplify crowd noise. So even though it has one of the smaller attendance capacities of the arenas in the league, in the Jazz organization's heyday, it was also one of the loudest. The new arena would have to have a similar feature for it to be worth it. I'm sure downtown SLC has a vested interest in getting a new arena for the Jazz. The last thing that town needs is all of that money being spent elsewhere. Gateway would essentially become a ghosttown if the Jazz left downtown. I think the city and the Jazz reach some kind of agreement. What they do in the meantime while the new arena is being built, I'm not sure. But I'm certain Ryan Smith and his people will think of something. Of the six arenas listed here, I think Smoothie King is the most likely to be replaced sooner. I don't know if the city of New Orleans acquiesces to the Pelicans organization's demands on public funding for a new arena or if the Pelicans end up moving, but I don't see them playing at Smoothie King Center for very much longer. Also can they just change their name? I mean the Pelicans??

    • @briand5083
      @briand5083 Před 5 měsíci +3

The Delta Center used to hold 20,000 people, which was average at the time. That combined with the acoustics made it one of the loudest arenas in the NBA. The large seating capacity made it uncomfortable. However, the renovations cut it down to just over 18,000. My last visit to the arena was much more comfortable than I remember in the past being there is more space between people.

So what I gather with this guy's logic on why perfectly good buildings should be demolished and replaced with half billion dollar buildings is they are so 1990's! Sorry, but what I consider to be good sports venues is size, properly maintained, comfort, decent views of the game, concessions, and accessibility. The Utah Jazz just spent over $100 million in arena renovations. The Delta Center is essentially a brand new arena. I was there for a game a few years ago and think it's a really nice arena. The Moda Center is also really nice. The way those two arenas are build was common in the 90's. The United Center is very similar. So as a fan, I don't care that the appearance from the outside is from the 90's. I mean, my house is so 1950's, should that be demolished and rebuilt to a modern look despite being very functional? You know which arena I didn't care for? The Chase Center. Parking was a good distance away and the seating was terrible. My knees were hitting the back of the head of the person in front of me and I was squished like a sardine in my seat. I've heard negative things about the other three arenas, but two of them weren't designed for NBA teams, so those make sense. Delta and Moda, built almost exclusively for basketball!

Help me understand this, and this is coming from a Jazz fan when it comes to building names. Continuing to call the Moda Center the Rose Garden makes sense to me. Rose Garden is a unique name to that city being it's the City of Roses. If I were a Blazer fan, I would continue to call that building the Rose Garden. Jazz fans continued to refer to their building as the Delta Center 15 years past their name change. That makes zero sense to me. Delta Airlines is not unique to Salt Lake, or Utah at all for that matter. Why the loyalty to Delta Airlines? It's just a corporate sponsor. Same with Key Arena. It was named after a bank based out of Cleveland! Why are people so attached to corporate names? When I used to refer to the Jazz arena by it's correct name, whether it be Energy Solutions Arena or Vivint Smarthome Arena, people would always correct me and say, "It's the Delta Center, it will always be the Delta Center to me." I always thought that was odd. I would respond with, "Meh, I guess I don't have the same loyalty to Delta as you. I typically fly United."
      Also, #bringbackthesonics!

@@briand5083.....First, an arena's original name is what remains with fans. It's the name change that's difficult for them to accept. Second, Delta Air Lines (yes Air-Lines) is the largest carrier in the state of Utah. If you fly out of KSLC, this is obvious. Delta is heavily invested in the new airport, Salt Lake City and Utah, in general. Delta employs over 5000 people in the city of Salt Lake, alone. Why are they loyal? It's the hometown airline and everyone either works or flies Delta, or knows someone who does.

The Delta Center building is old, relatively. They had talked about moving the team to the suburbs, but SLC came through with a new bill that passed. It'll increase the sales tax by 0.5% in the city to pay for rebuilding at some point. For now, they're going to renovate it to fit the new Utah NHL hockey team Ryan Smith also purchased (He owns the Jazz and the MLS soccer team with his SEG ownership group). So it's already in the works, starting this Summer.

Almost all the important history for the Jazz is in Utah, including the most famous/highly-rated Finals in NBA history, and the careers of guys like Stockton and Malone. The Jazz were not popular in New Orleans and had literally zero success as a team there; the Maravich stuff is nice, but that was a short window that took place with a lack of local popularity or any real team success.
The idea of giving the 'Jazz' name back at this late date, after all the important players that have played in SLC and huge games that have taken place there, to a New Orleans market with almost no history relative to that franchise, is absurd.
The 1990s were the decade of The Dream Team, and the time when Malone and Stockton were making multiple Finals against Michael Jordan, all while making five Conference Finals and winning the most games of any franchise that decade.
The 1970s was the era of tape delay for the NBA, and the Jazz were the bottom of the barrel for a dying league; the franchise was attracting very few fans in the New Orleans market, all while never making the playoffs a single time.
It's pretty obvious that if you have respect for NBA history, you understand that the 'Jazz' name belongs in Utah, just as the 'Lakers' name belongs here in Los Angeles.

@manuelgrothe608 You ignored all the history I listed to bring up the history of New Orleans. Absurd.
New Orleans has no meaningful connection to the Jazz franchise when compared to Utah, that is the point.
Your stance requires you to ignore that, and bring up Jazz Culture in New Orleans. Which makes about as much sense as demanding Los Angeles give up the 'Lakers' name.
      But hey, thanks for conceding.

Minnesotan here. We have a new Ownership Group taking over, with the face of that ownership group A-Rod. With A-Rod's ties to Seattle, there is much speculation that he will demand a new arena or attempt to move the team to Seattle. I think, knowing that our state recently approved new stadiums for the Twins, Vikings, and Gophers football (with in the last 10 years or so) and the city of Minneapolis just dumped 150-250 million into Target Center...no new Timberwolves arena is coming anytime soon. A-Rod will be in full Seattle mode soon.

Not to long ago their owner told them they were staying in Oakland. Worked with the city on a new Stadium by the bay/water, and the city had been getting their funds to hold their end of the agreement. He had the marketing team put out the slogan "Rooted in Oakland" a few years back to further demonstrate to the fans they were staying put. We know the ending. Vegas Baby. @@twinsrookie
