This is really entertaining to watch. I grew up in Clausthal and lived one year in India (Bengaluru), so it is interesting to see an indian student´s view of Clausthal. I think you showed the points of interest regarding the TU very well, never thought that the Rathaus might be interesting for someone but sure this makes a lot of sense :D
I want to give a few additional informations on Clausthal-Zellerfeld as a native:
If you want to come to Clausthal, do not expect a large city. It is basically a mountain village with a university. Clausthal is really small, around 12.000 people live here and most of them only do because they work or study directly at university or because they work at a company that is tied to the university. Without the TU, Clausthal would be a dead place and maybe a tourist destination. Usually it is not even worth paying for public transport within Clausthal-Zellerfeld. As shown in the video, you can walk from the beginning of Zellerfeld to the other end of Clausthal easily, most places can be reached quickly by foot. I do recommend to get two things: a good bycicle with enough gears for mountains and one heavy set of clothes for the winter/rainy days. Expecially the clothes with decent shoes will save your life one day (go straight for water resistant trekking boots, you will thank me later). It does not snow as much as it did 20 years ago, but if it starts to snow, expect a LOT of snow.
Because of this little size, the students and even the locals are very calm and group up into small communities. Many students are internationals (I think the last number I heard is 40% of all students are international), so you will find likeminded people. But most of the social interaction stays within these small communities and you need to be really active and push yourself to get to know more people, as most groups are kinda... seperated, if you know what I mean. Still, there is public student life, parties and three or four pubs like the Anno Tobak or the Querschlag to meet up. I guess it is important to choose a hobby or sport and get in touch with new guys and girls. Most guys here are really relaxed and because everyone lives close to each other, it is easy to meet up and visit.
The TU is quiet small, but has a very long history and a few inventions made for mining changed the world, like the wire rope. The whole region is shaped by historic mining and old landfills, water catchment areas, channels, ponds and water reservoires. Mining in the area started around 1000 years ago. Around 500 years back, the miners realized they will need water to power big water wheels all year round. So they biuld a gigantic network of channels, tunnels, lakes and dams to collect as much water as possible and store it in cascading lakes for the dry summer. This network is called the "Oberharzer Wasserregal" and Clausthal is very much in the middle of it with over 70 lakes nearby. From every point in town, you might only take 20 minutes of walking or 10 minutes by bycicle to get to the nearest lake. This is one of the reasons I do recommend to get a bycicle, because the nearest ponds are often crowded, but the further away you get, the calmer and more beautiful the nature becomes. Seriously, the area around town is much more beautiful than the town itself. Hiking and mountainbiking start right at your doorstep, skiing and sledding is possible with enough snow in winter.
Overall recommendation for studying in Germany:
I do recommend to learn german. Many young people speak english very well, but old folks usually don´t. Having the ability to communicate on daily bases while buying bread or groceries, in restaurants or to meet with other german folks really helps a lot and will open up many possibilities to get to know new persons. And you will be able to read signs like roadnames, information flyers and other written stuff you will encounter everywhere. I know this from my stay in India and wish I had spend more effort learning Hindi or Kanada, because going somewhere by bus just speaking english was a gamble. Also, if you are looking for work, speaking some german will greatly increase your chances. Within the university there are some jobs that can be done in english, but most things are at least partly german.
I hope this helps someone and if you have questions about Clausthal, I might be able to answer them :)
