I rode the cable car transit in Mexico City as a tourist. It was built to facilitate getting workers from the outlying areas into the city to work.
Thanks for taking us along on the Tram ride. I loved the views above the east river. 16th liked. I have never been on one. The closest for me was riding the sky ride at the 1964 World's Fair. It cost 75 cents for a one-way trip, which was a lot more than a 15 cents subway fair ride back them
@UrbanCaffeine Yes I was 8. Way before you were born. I'm glad I found your channel the other day. Your Staten Island video got my attention. I grew up on Staten Island in the 60's to the early 70s
I’m so glad you decided to go to Roosevelt Island! It’s a hidden nyc gem that needs to be more recognized and appreciated. Especially the beautiful tram 🔥!!!
Roosevelt Island is getting more well known and the tram is now over capacity (lines out the station) on many many summer days. It is worth noting that one entire hour of trams running back and forth only has the capacity of about two subway trains.
I have rode the Roosevelt Island Tram a few times. Something to mention for those who don't want to pay twice, you can use your Metrocard, or now Omni, for a free transfer to the subway.
I'm loving this series. NYC is still on my list of places to visit and I will definitely be visiting the places you have mentioned this month.
I love NYC and have been twice now. I hoping for another visit next year.
The Portland Aerial Tram is very similar to the Roosevelt Island Tram. It was purpose built to connect the Oregon Health Sciences University campus to the waterfront and streetcar network and is more vertical than linear in its route. Definitely check it out if you're in Portland, OR. The views are great and you can see Mt. Hood on a clear day.
In Dresden, Germany where I currently live there is not but are TWO cable cars: the Furnicular Railway and the Suspension Railway. Fun fact: their 'valley stations' are only some hundred meters or 5 walking minutes apart from each other. The 'mountain stations' on the other hand are on the different hills. Both railways are used by locals as well as tourists. I rode them several times with visiting family members and friends for the sake of the whimsical experience, the nice view over the city and river Elbe and the delicious food of a restaurant rund the corner. Greetings😊
I miss new york every day 🥲🥲
I've been on both funiculars in Pittsburgh, PA, the Peak Tram in Hong Kong, and the Singapore Cable Car. The last is probably the closest to the Roosevelt Island Tramway in construction. Again, thank you for this series. ¿Transport by jet ski?
I really enjoy your content because you have one of the most interesting vlogs.
The Roosevelt island Tram was famously in the 1981 movie Nighthawks starring Sylvester Stallone, Billie D Williams, and Rutger Hauer.
I've been on the tram many times. Great way to get to Roosevelt Island! I was pleased to see the memorial to Nellie Bly on the north end of the island. Well worth a visit!
We rode a tram in China and a funicular in Paris. Oh, and we have a great tram up our Sandia Peak here in Albuquerque. 🙂👍
This has been on my list of 'must do things' since I booked my flight to NY back in Feb 🤣 In Cape Town we have a cable car that takes people from the base of Table Mountain to the top. It was built 94 years ago, but the cars have been upgraded over the years and the latest iteration rotates 360 degrees so that everyone in the car can enjoy the views
Wildcat gondola at wildcat mountain NH - on a windy day
There are quite a number of tramways and gondolas in the US... People have mentioned Sandia and Portland, but also Atlanta's Stone Mountain and Palm Springs. I've also been on one in China's Zhangjiajie, Hong Kong's, and also Taipei's Maokong. Some are small that seat ~ 8, others can fit 100+. Main difference is in whether it is fixed on the cable or only grabbing onto the cable.
I too, took a funicular in Lisbon, Portugal
I'm enjoying the vlogmas, so far the SIR Subway one has been eye opening, I've never seen video of it nor did I know it was free other than at the ferry terminal.
*the ferry terminal and the next stop, Tompkinsville. They didn't like that people were walking to avoid paying.
I've ridden the funicular and the suspended Aero Car both near Niagara.
Though I am a native New Yorker I have never been on the Roosevelt Island tram, however, on a trip to the beautiful city of Quebec years ago my wife & I did ride a funicular from Upper Quebec to the lower, riverfront district. I know Los Angeles also has (or had) a funicular tram that often shows up in old timey film noir movies set in LA
I was hoping you would do this. I have never actually seen a you tube video in the tram.
I think I've ridden three funiculars now: two in Pittsburgh and one in Edmonton. They should be more popular!
The Japanese, when translating these things to English, call them "ropeways". The most accessible one to foreign visitors would be in the Hakone region of Kanagawa Prefecture, just south of Tokyo.
I am the same age as the ROOSEVELT ISLAND TRAM.
I live near La Paz (Bolivia) and I ride Mi Teleferico (I think it translates to cable car) every day in my commute. Some 180 000 passagers use the system everyday
Great 4th day of transit. I love that tram, so cool.
6:20 yes, the cable lift to and from the summit of Mount Emei
You should visit Switzerland. There you'll find hundreds of cablecars. All kind of cablecare. Mostly you find them in the mountains to climb some high mountains.
Rode cable car in Vancouver at Expo86, as well as Banff Sulfur Mountain in '83, and Chamonix to top of Mont Blanc in '87.
Rode funicular in Québec city, as well as recently in Manhattan !!! ( 34th street station on the 7 has funicular next to esscalators, instead of elevator)
QUESTION: is living on Roosevelt Island considered very upscale, or is it somewhat affordable due to lack of car access to Manhattan?
💞
On my list to ride this when I visit NYC again in Feb. Good info on the free bus. Hopefully it won't be to cold. :D
On the forth day of Vlogmas , Thea brought to me ... ... ... Another gem and smiles ...
So, this video was just a couple of minutes longer than a ride on the Roosevelt Island Tram.
I have to take a funicular every time I want to by groceries or take the bus to anywhere. After a couple of times the novelty wore off.
Been to Roosevelt Island a few times. Lovely place, confusing as hell to drive through 😂
This is a great video series!
Hell, no. If you ever get to London, you can ride the cable car between North Greenwich and the Royal Docks.
ive never taken the tram before!!! cable cars scare the shit outta me 😭 i also thought it was free! do you have to pay for the F shuttle thing going on?
OK,I found the video I missed. 😀😀
My stepfather’s company put up the steel for the tram.
This is a cool series. How about more non-traditional modes of transit in NYC like helicopters? I've always wanted to try a Blade from JFK to FiDi, but the timing was never quite right for me.
This is on my to do list when I come over from the UK for Christmas, can you tell me how to get to the Manhattan station from my hotel in the Meatpacking district? Your videos are very helpful.. Thank you!
'... the Manhattan station ...' What do you mean? Where are you going?
@@eattherich9215the station in Manhattan where you board the tram obviously!
@@Avgeek1564: you are already on Manhattan - it's an island - so talking about the 'Manhattan station' makes no sense. You can download a map of the metro system from the MTA site and work out how to get from you hotel in the Meatpacking district to Roosevelt. In the meantime, enjoy NYC, it's a wonderful place to visit. I shall be doing my third trip next year.
I have been to NYC a few times, so I'm fully aware Manhattan is an island thank you! I refered to the "Manhattan station" as where you board the tram from Manhattan.
Why is it called a tram??
Can I stay in the car without exiting upon arrival at the island and ride back to Manhattan side just for the view /photos only without buying a separate tkt for return ?
Hello👋. Sadly, they make everyone exit the tram so you have to buy another ticket to return.
QUESTION: How are cyclists supposed to cross the bridge to Queens? There is a sign that cyclists not allowed on sidewalk. Are they ment to ride on the narrow strip that used to be a shoulder but now separated with bollards on the metral grid surface of the ift bridge?
BTW a plaque on the brige says it is the Welfare Island Bridge built in 1955.
Cable car in San Francisco
Loving the videos a lot but the audio issues make it really hard to listen to.
I'm not happy with the audio either. I had a new set up that didn't turn out so well. Heads up, you might want to avoid the Day 7 video. By far it has the worst audio. 😅

Roosevelt Island is in Manhattan.
The Borough of Manhattan consists of Manhattan Island, Roosevelt Island, U Thant Island, Randalls Island, Wards Island and Marble Hill (which is connected with The Bronx).
