  • Val Di Sole race week. Check out the gnarliest downhill world cup track in arguably the toughest conditions while going blind! This week we rode the black snake and managed to scathe through injury free however learned some new information that has rocked the boat a little.
    Through regular videos I'm hoping to shed some light on preparing for and qualifying to race Downhill / EDR World Cups. The sport is undergoing a lot of changes so I'm not sure what to expect, but I'll be bringing you on the journey as it unfolds.

    Gee... I'm here as Rohan Claffey, whose son does downhill and is type 1, told me about you. Im type 1 and have been for 25 years and competed in two Olympic Games in Bobsleigh (a strangely similar sport). Dont let it beat you. It can drive your performance to be even better 👍

    Fella, you’re on the pace. Loved those lines you picked. The Type 1 DM is a tough bit of news, but you’re obviously in tune with your body to pick it up like that. Know a bit about this for a reason: get it proper sorted right away (no cheating) and you’ll be right as rain and back racing quickly. Just remember there’s a process with this, just like everything else and you’ll find you’re racing even better (probably been holding you back a bit for a while). Onward and upward and I’m feeling privileged that you shared this news. 💪💪💪

      Thanks mate felt the pace wasn’t too bad despite having bad vision and low energy. Hopefully it is something that I can tune up and perhaps be better off for. I’ve often had highs and lows in my energy so hopefully now needing to monitor it I can get the levels right and charge on!

    Loving these mate. Good to know what’s going on with ya, hope dealing with it isn’t too much trouble and you’ll be able to be better than before the diagnosis now that you know. Keep on it

    Hectic week bud! Lines looked solid, crappy to hear about the ole pancreas but keep smashing 🤟 Good on you for calling out the SRAM guys for being tools instead of using them too 👍

      Haha yeah no shame calling out sram. And yea plenty of line choice there and tricky to pick the right one for the conditions!

    Really well done mate, only just off the pace there and with such a tough and long track it eats up time on all the tiny things. And thats not even mentioning the eyesight and health struggles! Sorry to hear about the diagnosis, would be a wild ride going through that while on the road and trying to concerntrate on the season. Hope it all goes as smoothly as possible and you're able to figure out some good solutions to get back on track. Respect the openness you're bringing to this mate

      Thanks mate I appreciate the comment. All open here mate just trying to give as much insight as possible.
      We’ll figure it out, few diet changes and some regular injections and I’ll be back at it for the next one 🤝

    Can I ask why you run the assegai over the dhf when it’s muddy? I find the assegai is areal mud hugger in the bog, where the dhf clears it a lot better. Do you find them just the same or are you very comfortable on the assegai?

    • @haydenstead
      @haydenstead  Před 10 dny

      I do enjoy both but primary run the assegia because that’s what I’m used to. In this case some boys even ran shortys and all tires were packing up with mud so I stayed on assegia. I like the dhf when it’s more harder pack and bone dry

    STOP DRINKING!!!!
    Mate I had the same exact thing happen to me. My pancreas just stopped working like it should. Now I’m on metformen and insulin for the rest of my life.
