For near 50 year old trains those interiors are pretty good.

The purple interiors of the V Sets are from the refurbishment as part of the change over of ownership/management of NSW railways from CityRail (or more colloquially derided as CityFail later on in its existence) to Sydney/NSW Trains, circa 2013.
From memory, the "original" interiors consisted of dark lime green leather for the seats, with cream/custard painted walls, brown striped moquette/carpet on the floors, and faux wood grain panelling in the vestibules (ends of the carriages).
But yes, design wise the interiors of the V Sets HAVE held up marvellously for their age.

However - disagree re legroom. Try getting four people in one of those for 2.5 hrs on an Easter weekend when u got 12 year old lads screaming and throwing chips over your seat nalldat

tram does not go to the beach. I wouldn't tell Lake Macquarie that they are part of Newcastle

Maybe not literally, but the name of the tram stop at the end of the line is called “Newcastle beach”.

Wow, NSW trains are cheap! Compare $9 to the $32 for a train from Melbourne to Bendigo at a similar distance. Victorian public transport is expensive.
