    Great video series.... I have a love hate relationship with my rack at any given time you'll find it in the closet and my kit on stands or vice versa. Great advice on replacing plastic mounts with metal - I am always reluctant to tighten the plastic pieces in fear of cracking them. The phone hack is good too...

    • @TheeDrumWorkshop
      @TheeDrumWorkshop  Před 3 lety

      I think a lot of us have that experience over time! I've typically settled on a mixture of the two - stands for some parts, rack for others. Or two side racks so that it's not all mounted over the front and doesn't require as much balancing.
      Yes, I've had issues with plastic mounts before too! Thanks for watching!

    I use a Quad Lock for my phone (I have a few accessories to stick the phone to my car, a stand for my desk, and one for my bike). I bought a separate connector and a solid plastic ball on-line, drilled the ball and screwed-and-glued-in a wood-insert, so now I have a Quad Lock connector on a Roland cymbal arm.
    I thought it might work as a camera stand but it's a bit too close, however it is useful to control my music input into my TD27 via bluetooth.

    Yeah nice vid. Myself, on a previous kit I had, I introduced cross talk issues by expanding and mounting almost everything to the rack. My new kit, I strayed away from that. I expanded the rack to house a 22inch bass drum and longer sides, but bought extra stands and cymbal stands, where I then attached my expansion pads, cymbals with various poles/clamps, a lot like you've displayed here. I attached a lot of my expansion pads to acoustic cymbal stands (with acoustic cymbals - hybrid kit) to minimise cross talk issues. Hitting the acoustic cymbals hasn't seemed to interfere with the e-pads. I think this is because the cymbals aren't rigid and has plenty of "give" so the shock isn't sent down the stand??? This approach worked great. No more messing around with settings trying to eliminate cross talk! Plus, I think it help with stage presence with using extra separate stands ??

    great video that helped me a lot to find options for mounting different gear to my roland TD-12 rack - thanks a lot! :-)
    one thing missing for me is a solution to stick up an extention rod into the vertical rods that the roland rack provides; on top of which there are just two plastic caps closing the rack tube. it would be neat to have some adapter that sticks right into these tubes after opening the; however i haven't found a solution for that (i.e. somethign that practically prolonges these rack tubes verticall for clamping more stuff to it).

    I currently have 5 toms, 8 cymbals, 2 modules already mounted to my rack, I need to make a mount for my laptop, my headphone amp, and my mixer…,plus 2 more pads for percussion effects. I have a Gibraltar rack and the racks from the TD11 and TD27, so I most probably won’t need to buy much except for the laptop mount. All of that and no cross talk issues. Next purchase will be the foot blaster triggers so I can use my acoustic bass drum, I don’t like the small Roland bass pads, they move too much for proper double bass. Oh well, GAS is a thing. I have 2 acoustic kits that I want to be able to record too, I’m looking into digital mixers such as the makie onix pro , plus a set of mics, stands, cables…the list goes on, luckily I don’t have kids so I can splurge when I want.😊

    Hi Luke, I really like your multi-module rack. I was thinking of building one for my TD-50, TM-6 Pro and a MacBook Laptop. Do you by any chance have a list of parts to build this rack shown at 45 seconds into the video? The one with the TD-50, the PMP and the TD-17? Do you think I could get a laptop on top and the module on the bottom? Thanks!

    • @TheeDrumWorkshop
      @TheeDrumWorkshop  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey! I don't really have a list of parts, they're mostly just various clamps that I've picked up over the years and different sizes of rack bars. I have another video that goes into more depth on customising racks that you can see here -
      czcams.com/video/IfC-SM2AfjA/video.html
      It's pretty much all right angle rack clamps to join the bars, rack multi clamps to hold the modules and then some rack feet on the bottom. That particular module rack probably wouldn't fit a laptop on top because of the way I had the bars poking up and it being narrow, but you could easily make it wide enough or just have the bars flush at the top and use one of the laptop mounting solutions to make it work. Hope that helps!

    Hi! Brilliant video....Unfortunately for me though, not knowing that much about e drums with regards to rack dimensions etc...I went ahead a got an Alesis Nitro mesh kit. Alas, as you know, the rack dimension is only 1 1/8"..... I had plans to extend the kit and add bits mentioned in your vids, but can I find a drum clamps small enough???? Nope.......looked everywhere and no joy. Any ideas or a point in the right direction would be great greatly appreciated......Cheers!

    • @TheeDrumWorkshop
      @TheeDrumWorkshop  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Paul! That's a real shame - I've used some of these clamps with Alesis Strike rack tubes and some of them still tighten enough to work ok, but not every clamp I own for whatever reason. So I couldn't say for sure if they'd work with yours. The first things that come to mind would be either replacing some tubes with the larger diameter ones so that you could use the other clamps, find additional Alesis brand clamps or (and this one isn't the prettiest but works for me when I need it) you could wrap some tape around the area of the rack where you want to put the clamps to add a bit of additional thickness to it. I've done this on the end of rack poles when the feet are a bit too big for Alesis pipes and it works well. A good quality gaffer tape won't leave horrible residue if you want to remove it and I go around the section of pipe maybe 2 or 3 times. As I say, not the prettiest solution but if you work out where you want the clamp to be ahead of time you can make sure that it's only in that spot and it'll be hidden by the clamp.
      Hope those ideas help!

      Nice! What do you use for it?

      @@TheeDrumWorkshop I mounted the Mac to a sheet music stand and mounted that to an Alesia module mount

      Nice one! Seems this is a popular method! I cut down a music stand a bit ago for the same kind of thing. Did have it planned as part of the video but cut it for time, will have to include it in another! Glad it's worked for you!
