I had this car! It wasn't that bad actually. Good design and good turbo diesel! Wouldn't buy another one though!

While I think Rover Group had accomplished several goods under severe pressures from its associated matters like parental companies and mismanagements, journalists' words about identity is something worth thinking about. Even Hyundai and Kia is criticized in domestic for lack of constant, strong identity - especially when they constantly changes their own styling identities and philosophy nowadays.
What Rover could have taken as its own identity under the skin, especially without Honda connection? And this question would be tweaked and applied into others very well - like, without tiger grills and KIA badges attached, what makes Hyundai and Kia offerings Korean in a good way?

I don't know. But it seems like Rover instead should have just copied Honda and established Honda's identity as it's own. Honda has a reputation for making reliable and high quality cars at low prices, the kind of cars customers usually want, and I'm sure Rover wants their cars to be like that as well. If Rover did that and continued it's partnership with Honda, then maybe the company will still be around today.

What a lot of disinterested, arrogant, overpaid and underworked lot those journalists were !! In fact the Rover 200 was NOT a Honda, it did use some parts of one but the rear end was actually based on the Maestro, it always had a Rover engine, it did not have a Honda gearbox. It sold 750.000 examples and was Rover's most reliable carer EVER !!
