Ultimately, this is fine. Between the 2 movie franchises, the new cartoon, the multiple animated movies they bring out every year, the 75 comics they bring put every month, I'm good on Batman. Got enough Batman, thanks.
Honestly I'm not surprised. That idea was better for the DCEU back when suicide squad came out because, despite that movie was a hot mess, it offered us a lot of villians and other possibilities to explore
Kris made a great point.. not living up to the standard set by the games will set you up for failure.
I don't think they are sure what the show was supposed to be, it was originally a cop show then a psychological drama or an anthology. Then it jumped from one universe to another. Compared to penguin where the concept was so much clearer. With this it just felt likes they never had the concept nailed down
Also I have a wild theory that, the batman part 2 took so long because Reeves's team was taking so long to figure this show out, so when the time runs out, they gave up and put their complete attention on Batman part 2. Who knows, maybe they'll work some of the shows concept into the movie
That's exactly my theory
matt reeves is a genius but slow as hell...im still hoping we get a batman 2
I see what John is saying with not wanting two different DC universes at once, but I think the world of Batman is so rich that it deserves a whole separate universe to explore. As long as they keep everything Batman related I think it’ll be a good idea to have another universe where Batman teams up with the Justice League and doesn’t always need to be the center of the story.
At one point we had three different DC universes (Smallville, Batman Begins, and Superman Returns). Four if you count Justice League Unlimited. This wouldn’t be new territory at all.
@@keithoneil9894 Nolan's Batman movies were very much its unique contained thing. Smallville universe was one show, and Superman Returns was just one movie. The only thing you can say was an expanded universe was the DCAU, which had multiple shows with multiple characters.
you want the most broad appeal you do one cinemtic universe look at marvel the dc fandom is too fractured & divided you really wanna deal w/ the discourse in the next few years over the 2 batmans the dcu should be it no elseworlds storys keep it connected & cohesive to build the fandom back up
@@ngin98 kind of odd that you say to "look at Marvel" when arguably the downfall of the DCEU first started when they tried to rush and replicate their own cinematic universe similar to the MCU. I also don't think there would be division in the fandom if the two universes have good movies and shows coming out, look at Joker and The Batman those didn't cause any confusion or division.
They'd have just fucked it up anyway. At least I have the games that are masterpieces (the first 2 at least).
Origins is underrated imo.. not as good as the first two though
Playing Arkham Asylum right now don't need a series
Why are we surprised that something that was originally greenlit by the previous regime isn't being kept by the new regime that didn't originally greenlit it and has their own plans for what they want for the DC brand?
I kind of forgot about the project.
If one thing that The Batman did perfectly that everyone could agree with was that it did world building to perfection. Gotham in the movie felt like its own living breathing character.
I was excited for this project
I guess they thought that extending the Matt Reeves Batman universe to television would officially make it too large to have it be it’s own separate entity from the DCU, because at that point it evolves beyond just being a movie series, and while the people over at WB were ok with having a series of movies outside of the DCU something like this might’ve proved to just be too much for them, and they probably didn’t shift into making it part of the DCU because there’s no announced Batman movie for the DCU, and even if there were it would make no sense to try and tweak a series that was meant to be part of 1 universe and make it into one that’s now part of a completely different one, and so this was probably the only option they had left
I fee like Arkham Asylum could of been like Mindhunter for the DCU
That's a great idea. I loved that show
IMo doing shows based on the universe of a character but not have said character just sounds horrible.
but it gives more world building and can be unique ways for the writer to tell stories. that why Im super hyped for the penguin since it is adding more depth to Gotham as a whole. imo i like it
Even though Gunn has made assurances” that Reeves is still going to be able to do his Batman sequel, I have a feeling he’s just going to scrap it which would be disgusting and bull shit. I haven’t had a single good thought or ounce of enthusiasm about this new DCU and I’ve been very adamant that this whole new universe is going to blow up right in his face and Warner Bros will just revamp everything all over again making all those old projects and their creators scratching their heads
Andy Serkis literally just said a couple days ago that The Batman 2 starts filming next year...
They better still do Constantine 2.
We really don’t need it. We have penguin coming out anyway
No one's going to watch that
@@bigbawlzlebowski8886 People are going to watch that. Stop liying.
The article doesn't say that Arkham Asylum series isn't happening just that it's not happening at Max. Deadline claims that the project could still happen somewhere else.
Dc has all its movies and tv shows on max lol. Why would it get shipped to another platform lol
@@subscribefourn0reas0n41Where is the new Batman: Caped Crusader show releasing?
What I find funny about the article that “broke” this news is that it was pointless. It specifically stated that the version of the show that was connected to The Batman was not moving forward at Max. But we already knew that. Like John mentioned, Gunn said that the Arkham series was now set in the DCU. What the article does not say is that the DCU version of this series has been cancelled. So, the Batverse Arkham series is not moving forward, but the DCU Arkham series is still in the table. Again, that was the status that we already knew.
Probably for the best, i honestly hate that we're getting the penguin show before we even get batman 2, i really wish that was coming out this year, i love the batman, i think its an great film
I feel this series will Still happen in the DCU under HBO
If you pick apart the report, all it really is is that the version that one showrunner was working on is no longer happening. It's still a possibility that they could have someone else retool it yet again.
Personally, I think the strength of an Arkham show in the DCU, in particular one running multiple seasons, would be the opportunity to develop character arcs between movies. Things like showing the first meeting between Dr. Harleen Quinzel and Dr. Pamela Isley, or the Hugo Strange experiments, that there probably wouldn't be time for in a 2h story about Batman.
That would be silly bc The Batman did soo well at the box office and better than any of film released by DC in a long time
@@harrismatthew5553 Whatever may have been pitched to WB initially, James Gunn said the Arkham pitch that Reeves brought to DC Studios was for the DCU, not the Batverse. And I can see the value of that, since it would have a better chance of running multiple seasons if it's part of the universe that's the main focus of the studio.
Variety said it was completely dead, while deadline said just the Antonio Campos version was no longer moving forward and the project isn’t necessarily dead. Would love for Gunn to clarify.
John we still need to see Kris’s reaction to watching the Decent
Dammit John and Kris, you guys are making me want to redownload the Arkham trilogy... Don't you know I'm in the middle of a Cyberpunk playthrough?!
I have my suspicions they will merge Robert Pattersons Batman into the DCU
A silence of the lambs red dragon style show would have been cool. It would help create a somewhat believable relationship between Batman and the joker
This is literally the only comic book universe that still matters. Let’s see how think think about it when penguin is breaking records
This might have been something good I guess the budget scares them away.
Probably for the best. Who wants to see srkham asylum without batman.
Would've liked to see more of Matt Reeves 'The Batman' universe but not surprised by this. I hope I'm wrong but I think the Penguin series could be the end of this universe & I don't think The Batman Part 2 will actually happen. I think it'll go the same way as Affleck's Batman movie where we'll keep being told it's still happening until eventually it'll be revealed that it isn't.
Honestly, not having been a fan of 'The Batman' - I like the idea better as something part of the greater DCU than his films. Especially cause done right - it'd be great to actually show more of the villains and how they operate beyond what we usually see in the movies, and how they sometimes may be viewed the same, but understandably may hate that with how different they see themselves from one another. You can go into a backstory for Ivy and go more towards showing a version who doesn't necessarily hate humans but when it comes to protecting the environment shows mostly the same indifference they do when destroying it. Where it seems less out of place to most people she'd take in some of Gotham's orphans after a disaster. Better set up Freeze as someone who wanted revenge (going more the road the 'accident' that transformed him was less one) and really just wants/needs the funding to save his wife - with crime being the only quick and consistent way to get the funds he needs. Show a Harley Quinn that shows a bit more of the old Harleen Quinzel like you see in the 'Harley Quinn' show or even the 2016 'Suicide Squad' film (more so in a deleted scene or two), etc. Really set up and show why most of them go to Arkham - their still people, and maybe with help yeah, they could re-enter society without going back to crime and maybe even benefit it greatly. And if Joker shows up there maybe even have all of them (other than maybe Harley depending on how their relationship is) question why he's there and not locked in some hole where they throw away the hole and launch the key in to the sun.
But that's me, I actually really like episodes like 'Harley's Holiday', 'Almost Got'em', and 'Harley and Ivy' where we get to see the villains kinda just hanging out, interacting with one another (when not committing a crime together), and even somewhat reformed (but still a little crazy). I don't need Batman in every episode being Batman cause done right - the villains are every bit as interesting.
Disappointed to here this. Imagine if they connected the Arkham Asylum series to the Todd Phillips Joker Movies. I would have loved to see that happen, but regardless I’m pumped to see The Penguin and Joker 2 later this year. Gonna be an epic Fall for DC!
Maybe I’m overestimating the intelligence of the average movie-goer, but I really don’t think it would be that confusing to general audiences if there are multiple Batman Series happening at a time. Reeves focused on realistic detective stories, and Gunn focuses on the more comic booky aspects of Batman sounds like a dream to me
Don’t give a crap about the new Gunn universe. The Batman is better
I can’t wait until we get to the point where we have a solid plan so James gun does not have to cancel so much
Gunn isn’t the one who canceled this
@@austindaniels4827 he is the decision maker and he decided that it does not fit in the world he trying to create these old projects got to get out of here
@@jawill24 this isn’t the full story. the articles r pretty confusing but to my understanding the project isn’t completely dead, it could still be developed in the future. and just because Gunn announces a project, the studio that will produce it will have to green light the project, which is why Lanterns was just recently greenlit by hbo
@@austindaniels4827 o ok I did know that makes sense they got to much misinformation out there not entirely they fault but it’s annoying
@@jawill24 tbh i don’t even think the people writing the articles know what’s going on
If Matt Reaves casted Jennifer Holland as poison ivy or something as a Arkham prisoner, James Gunn would make sure it starts filming this summer…
That joke stopped being funny over a year ago
@@pats3212 sometimes the truth ain’t funny to some unfortunately
I gotta believe that with this show being axed, that The Batman 2 will be next. They pushed it back to 2026 to rework the script and it just feels like Gunn is going to take the axe to it next. Or, they pivot it to being in the new DCU film universe and that means that Pattinson will be Batman in The Brave and The Bold. I personally want this to happen. And there’s no reason why it couldn’t.
🙄
If you keep joker why not keep your only other non canon cash maker. This two franchises alone represent most of dc's integrity. Without reeves and Phillips dc is a complete joke with prospects of being much better. I feel like axing the batman(while releasing the penguin show really soon) would be too dumb an idea for them to do it.
I know it sounds sacrilegious but can they create a dc universe that doesn’t feature Batman. Over the years there have been adjacent shows (titans, Gotham, now Penguin) that are Batman-related to fulfil the itch.
@@yedigemagavin1694 what is that supposed to mean?!
@@finfog4590 Very difficult to build to a Justice League without Batman, given he basically funds the League.
Let's be honest. Hollywood is full of elitists, and the minute they hear that the fans love something, like this or the recent Supergirl fan art, they immediately go into psycho nutter mode and do the exact opposite.
