- The start of BBC Knowledge in 1999. This was the 3rd of the original three BBC Digital channels to launch.
Originally educationally based, BBC Knowledge promised some innovations including interactivity and making use of the then fairly new technology of the internet. However it didn't really live up to it's initial promise and became documentary based a couple of years later. It closed and was replaced with BBC Four in 2002
This video contains the opening, the first programme which was a preview of what was to come on the channel and the first junction.

Do you have any promos that were aired in the days up to the launch, or anything that was aired overnight whilst the channel was off the air?
That's all I have, although the barker loop had a lot of the stuff that's in this first half hour. It had a Fatboy Slim track on it
a trick: you can watch movies on kaldrostream. I've been using it for watching loads of movies recently.

Wait a second... Did they just reuse the countdown footage for BBC Choice on to the new channel launch? Use what you got, I guess...

Well anyway. BBC choice and BBC knowledge were very experimental I'd personally believe. I mean both were digital exclusives, multi media and also their idents were nothing like the 2 and 1s at the time. So they most likely just wanted to speed it up.
i kinda like more the international bbc knowledge channel. until it was discontinued /: ( i kina like bbc earth who replaced bbc knowledge but not that much. R.I.P. BBC Knowledge 2006-2019

Looks like 100ths of a second. But TV being 25 frames a second you don't see all the numbers

BBC Knowledge was launched on 1st June 1999, so this is currently 21 years old.
