  • Moving on to Fuzhou, the provincial capital of Fujian, after attending a performance featuring many different local styles, we go to the school of Master Yu Dan Qiu, who teaches Crying Crane, the style commonly believed to have strong links to Goju-Ryu Karate. Once White Crane spread from Yong Chun to Fuzhou city, it split into four major schools based on different behaviours of a crane: crying (aka whooping or calling), flying, feeding and sleeping (sometimes replaced with shaking).
    In this series I team up with Jesse Enkamp aka the Karate Nerd to travel to Fujian province, Southwest China. We are here to explore the arts of Southern Shaolin, particularly the arts of White Crane, Five Ancestors and Luohan.

    The guy at the end with the stripes shirt was impressive, powerful form. Big hands, square face, you don't wanna mess with those guys.
    Watching the form I suddenly got a sense why "Old contradiction man" Wang Xiangzhai had a lot of respect for WhiteCrane styles - Im even beginning to see the influence this appreciation made into Yiquan itself.

      @@andrewblack7852 I believe the White Crane master( whose name I can't recall right now) was one, the other was LiuHeBaFa founder Wu Wei, the 0,5 was a kinda mountain hermit, "half man, half-animal"( hence the 0,5) who used some idiosyncratic, " natural boxing".

    Are you sure that was a Sleeping Crane form in the beginning? The characters read 纵鹤拳, which is the name of the Shaking/Dancing Crane style, not 宿鹤拳 for Sleeping Crane. The form also looked more like a Shaking Crane form.

    • @MonkeyStealsPeach
      @MonkeyStealsPeach  Před 3 lety

      Yes you are right. That was confusion on my part. At the time of editing I mistakenly thought 纵鹤拳 and 宿鹤拳 were the same thing. I'm going to be compiling all the interviews from that series into a documentary, probably to be released next year... so I will clear up that mistake for that

    Nice, one of the things with fighting I've been noticing with some fighters in the ring getting in great shape before a fight, and some martial arts building great conditioning over a long period of time, and pacing yourself... or make me wonder about wearing a helmet before going face to face with some of these taller stronger people that do striking styles... lol...? or getting in closer, with some soft and sticky hands and using leverage or catching techniques sometimes... good posture could be especially important in the dojo?, like with high impact or helmets or weapons,? although the more naturally occurring slight chin tilt downward to protect the nose and chin could be remedied in habit easier I'd think???, if you'd wanna explain the difference of why alot of boxers might want to tilt their chin down a little more often than you might in karate...??? Or occasionally, going over shield with one hand behind the head...????

      They are cotton. I believe they are pre-shrunk, they are sold through printful, so you can double check there. The characters are just what the English says, so depends on which tshirt you get
