    So you can leave your car plugged in all night in the car park not so near your house? or do u need to "nip out" and unplug, move it in you dressing gown and slippers at 23:00? How inconvenient would that be? If the low fuel light comes on in my car I have at least 40 miles range how far does an EV go with 1% battery remaining? and if u forget to plug your EV in overnight do you jump out of bed to plug it in?
    You just put exactly enough fuel for your trip? really well u deserve to run out, why not fill it up? Oh I forgot the EV mentality is only put 10% in now and then. In 40 years of driving I have never run out of fuel or "forgot" to fill up.
    Are fast chargers expensive? My diesel Fiesta costs approx. 11p per mile. I use ASDA fast diesel fill simply tap my card on the pump no queuing in the shop (just like u do but I don't need a phone full of apps to make the pump work!) this gives me a range of 400+miles in 5 mins the last 20% takes exactly the same amount of time (1 minute) as the first 20% so I fill it to the brim every time and there is no problem with fuel tank degradation and that "little n often" thing so I don't need to worry about doing something else while I'm filling! or plugging the thing in every time I stop. If there is someone in front of me at the pump (unlikely 12 pumps available at my ASDA) I don't need to wait 40 minutes for them to go just 5 minutes or so. And why would I want to fill it up at home? Is this some sort of disadvantage? Never has been in the past 40 years. I fill my mower at home not my car.
    How much does your EV cost per mile when you use a fast fill (40min Ha Ha) charger? Oh sorry u can always go and do something else while it's charging... (But you can't go and do something else while you are waiting for the bloke in front to finish because u will loose your turn) An Infinite number of places to charge your car! Really And lets not talk about depreciation and battery degradation! Sorry mate your arguments don't stack up, EV's are a fad there is no proper infrastructure for them (Hybrids are another story). EV are OK as shopping trolleys but for real world use they are expensive toys/second cars especially in winter when they have half the range and you need to keep the battery simmering all night in case it craps out or worse burst into flames, My little Fiesta starts faultlessly when its -10C warms up quick inside, has a tow bar and is able to drag a fair size trailer without issues, how is your EV at towing stuff in -10C? Maybe u don't need that and just use it go to pump yourself up at the gym/shops. Really mate you little EV might suit u but if you wanted to go somewhere and do something proper then you would soon change you mind.
    Quite straight forward really

      I unplug it in the morning. I appreciate your page long rant. But I’ve owned petrol and diesel cars and vans for 15 years, doing 15-30,000 miles in them. I also work full time mending them. See my previous videos for some proof. I’ve had a petrol and electric car for the last year through all seasons, in fact my whole family has, we’ve barely touched the petrol car and used the electric one much more (6,000 miles vs 20,000).

  • @craigyjp
    @craigyjp Před 6 měsíci

    I don't believe I'm hearing this bollocks, petrol and diesel cars are much more convenient, if your fuel light comes on on the way home you stil have 30-50 miles of range depending on the vehicle, so plenty of time to get fuel in the way to work the next day. Most chargers are broken, far away, in use etc. waiting a few minutes for the people in front of you to fill up us not a problem, however being out of electricity stood in front of a non working charger is totally inconvenient.

    • @theweekthatis
      @theweekthatis  Před 6 měsíci

      How would you know about how many chargers are broken? I’ve never had an issue with broken chargers or them being too far way or anything like that. Not once in 20,000 miles. I did have trouble the other night when both petrol stations were closed though and I had to get up 15min early to refuel the next morning.

    Ev vehicles arnt a choice. They are an option of vehicle type for people. I think this is what needs to be stressed.
    If you live a pretty regimented lifestyle where you don’t have a lot of spontaneous activities then EVs make complete and utter sense.
    If you have a slightly more mileage intense boring life and you do the same repeatedly then hybrids are the way forward.
    If you live an unpredictable life then “ICE” vehicles it is. I think that’s what needs to be stressed.
    I think anybody claiming or trying to compare EV to hybrids or to ICE cars are just misguided.
    EV cars have been sold with tax incentives, the infrastructure required and the grid upgrades required I feel add further to the understanding, that no we all are not going to be driving electric cars.
    But when I watch these videos of people trying to promote their ev as a viable option or the benefits to evs im left scratching my head.
    You buy a car that has a maximum range of 300 miles on full %100 charge. Already that estimate is bogus because no ev driver will drive till empty the risks of running out are just way too high. equally as you stated nobody would use a charger outside a home or hotel to charge from 80% to 100% so that range is reduced again. So let’s say at 20% your looking for a charger and your not going to allow it to drop below 10% as a rule. And you’re not going to charge above 80% unless at home. So the range of 300 miles is actually 30% less which drops you down to around 210 miles away from home. 270 miles when leaving home or any place you can put 100% on.
    So as like a burst output an EV in the very best conditions might see 270 miles with a fast charge of 30 mins that range can go up to 480 miles. In my experience my cars I have owned diesels all around 1.9-2.5 range all will do at least 10 miles for ever litre of diesel which if I have a 50 litre tank I can beat that range. On an eco run once I got my car to do 1000 miles of a 50 litre tank.
    Now agreed in my day to day life I am very rarely caught off guard and have to do a 300 mile trip.
    But this is what EV vehicle video people need to understand. Yes if you own an ev you can do a 1000 mile trip, the car is more then capable but that trip in an ev will take 2 hours longer minimum provided the charging points you plan are all vacant on arrival and working.
    So a friend of mine asked me to take him to collect a car he had bought from London the trip down was 230 or so miles away. We drove down, signed the paperwork. Short stop for him to fuel the purchase car up and then we drove back. In an EV I would have required 1 if not 2, 30 minute stops. Now if your kinda person who likes to Ironman your drives get them completed with as little stops as possible then an EV is not for you.
    Which I thinks is what’s missing from content such as this, the honesty of it may not be right for you, but if like yourself you rarely need to do big journeys, you tend to enjoy stopping every couple of hours on a journey then it really is a good choice of vehicle. If you have a sense of adventure, or a bit of spontaneity in lift and ev is not the right car.

    Amazing I can pay for my diesel with card at the pump and leave often without waiting. You are talking total B.S.... Add to that I live down under, try driving your EV in the outback (vehicle an Outback) like I do and see where you can recharge. Try the Alice Springs to Mt Isa in an EV direct - I dare you. Lets see how your darling EV does then,. Oh I am a Brit who just happens to live down under now and sees the uselessness of EV's first hand. Alice Springs to Perth direct is another road to try - the road destroys vehicles and you have to carry spare fuel and water (Australian Law). How are you going to carry a spare EV battery or even fit it in 45+c (day) or below freezing at night. Remember EV's don't like cold or extreme heat and Australia has both at the same time. I don’t live in Australia. I don’t think my FIAT would do very well off road there, but obviously I’d be more than happy to travel into the outback in an off road EV, with a solar array, I’d never have to worry about running out of diesel.

    • @ashleyralston9142
      @ashleyralston9142 Před 6 měsíci

      No you wouldn't BUT you made one FATAL MISTAKE and I mean FATAL (your death). You will need a trailer for the solar panels to charge your vehicle. Means reduced range and it gets hotter here than the Sahara at times, and the cold will sap the battery at night. So you will charge slowly, use all your water (sitting in your car only gets you hotter) slowly charging. Set off cover no distance and have to recharge again. We can travel 800+ km and see no one. So you do that, I'll wait 5 days then set off with my diesel vehicle with 60 ltrs extra fuel and find your dead body covered in swarming ants eating you out from the inside. Now still want to use your EV. Fine in some place but not ALL. @@theweekthatis
