    Ive never played a stringed instrument, and I totally botched the tuning. I pulled it out of the box, grabbed the tuner, and tuned it to whatever letter popped up first. I knew it sounded off and now I know why! Thank you!

    tug on them for a bit. you have to understand that when you first buy new strings for a uke they need stretching becuase its a less dense material so as you tighten ,the strings are adjusting and stretching by themselves

    Aaaaahhhh!!! Just bought my first ukulele and tuner- I tune a string until I get a centre green line- but then I strum it again and don't get a Centre green so I tune again until I get a Centre green - strum a few times and it goes out of tune :( why can't I get it to stay steady! !!

      If it’s new it takes time to stay in tune also you should make sure it’s good enough quality to stay in tune

  • @nadinefarhat327
    @nadinefarhat327 Před 8 lety +7

    Does anyone know how long it usually stays in tune before you have to tune it again?

    • @TwoChordUke
      @TwoChordUke  Před 8 lety +6

      If new strings, it may take a couple of weeks retuning for it to stay in tune. If a cheap uke, you may need to retune every few songs. You definitely need to tune before you start playing, no matter how good the uke is. The better quality the uke, the more it will stay in tune. Also, need to make sure new strings are put on correctly. Also, you need to develop your ear so you don't always depend on a tuner. This way you can hear if your uke goes out of tune.

    • @natethegr8925
      @natethegr8925 Před 5 lety +1

      If you get a ukulele over fourty dollars it should stay in tune for anywhere from a week to a month ,if under thirty dollars it should be about a day. If it’s in between thirty and fourty , it’s kindve a toss up.

    • @weneedabassist
      @weneedabassist Před 8 lety

      +WolverinesNation92 you're probably just in the wrong key. It's most likely tuned to an A, but in a higher or lower key than the rest of the strings. Try tuning to a lower or higher A note. this is pretty old though, so you prolly already fixed the problem.

    Interesting. So do we call this fine instrument a yoo-keh-lay-lee or an ooh-keh-lay-lee or ooh-keh-leh-leh or ooh-keh-lay-lay? I've seen some debate here. It may depend on what part of the world you live in. In voice I often call it an ooh-keh-lay-lee but when I sing Ukelele Lady played by my friend Arlo Guthrie, I definitely pronounce it you-keh-lay-lee. What say you? Please keep it classy ukelele lovers!
