Great work Kristian, they look really effective. That Tamyia sand texture looks really interesting, I usually use the Vallejo version which is as thick as the dark earth one you used first, but I can see the benefits of the smoother finish the thinner paint gives.

Thanks buddy, I swear by the Tamiya textures. They're superb and the desert texture is great. I've got some AK textures that I'll be playing around as they look awesome too 😉

Basing is REALLY important. The base is the part that is mostly visible during gaming.

Exactly mate, I've seen a lot of awesome painted models to be let down by some average basing. It needs to end 🤭

Nice to see a bit of mid war love. I for one would love to see some more LRDG from you. I'm currently working away at a mid war British desert force, loosely based on British forces in Tunisia. So the timing on desert basing could not be better.

Early war and initial ops just as fascinating and perhaps we will showcase what we are doing at some point on this and Italian, French and German forces in these operations

Awesome work James, I'm glad the timing is right ☺️ if you get time, I'd love to see some progress shots on my FB and especially if you use this basing technique 👍😁
Oh and I think you're right, perhaps a truck and infantry tutorial should follow soon 🤔🤭

Filler, pva and sand is also very effective . It leaves no base prominent at all. Re LRDG and SAS been doing this for years with all the planning and tactical ops. This includes kit prep, fuel water, tires, ammo and supplies. The actual planning is great fun and then we execute from way point to waypoint
Perhaps you can do some actual terrain and sets and showcase what you are doing etc

I've also used them before too but I do prefer the ground textures ... although my wallet may not agree 🤭
I love the fact you've been doing LRDG and SAS for years. I'll definitely lean on you for some information in the future. I've just watched your linked video, I love the research and your table looks sensational. Can you move to Australia? 🤭
In terms of what the plan is, I really don't know. I had an LRDG force many years ago but it's since been sold and I'm rebuilding it so perhaps thats the angle I'll go or a terrain setup vid would be cool as suggested 🤔

Hey man, figures look great! I'm currently working on a black seas 3rd rate English warship from warlord games. I love the history of naval warfare and I'm not impressed with battlefronts new resin/metal release from team yankee. I'm more of a plastic kit person, but anyway I figured I'd take a break from land warfare and head out to sea, lol! However, painting these ships is a labor of love with all the fine details in 1/700 scale, takes about five hours to paint one ship of the line...crazy, but rewarding in the end.😭👍🍻

Hi Andrew 👋 thanks buddy 😁 I've really been interested in Black Seas, perhaps it's something I could look at 🤭 you're right though, the details on those ships is crazy good!
I'm a huge fan of the plastic model kits BF have released but I do love the metal infantry. Resin vehicles can be hit and miss though, I'm sure they're phasing out the resin for plastic but I've heard they had issues with the plastic printers so they went back to resin for the short term 🤔

Just a quick mention, Tamiya textures are fantastic. They look great and are super easy to apply. The reason I didn't want to use the mud Tamiya texture was because they're rather pricey but I had no other option 🤣 🥴

I’ve just bought a large tub of the Tamiya Sand Texture, yet to open it so I don’t know just how runny it is. Not that keen on doing two applications of texture though, the earth brown and then the sand. Is the Tamiya too thin to use on its own? If so I might use PVA / sand first and then use the Tamiya (even if I have to use a couple of dabs of earth texture to rough the sand up I think. At least I’d not be doing the whole texture thing twice.

    • @paintingpanzers
      @paintingpanzers  Před 6 měsíci +1

Yeah mate, it's not very thick in consistency so multiple coats are definitely required. You still might need two coats if you go the PVA/Sand route but that'll definitely save you money ... 💰 I'm keen to try to AK texture, I think that'll probably work out to be a bit thicker.
