- Yes, the Nintendo Switch has VR compatibility, and in this video, I play every first party game that supports it. Does it work well, and should you try it yourself?

#nintendoswitch #vr - Hry
They've made some very disappointing decisions with those VR applications. Being able to play with nothing but attached joy-con in Smash Bros. is just inane! And Zelda would have been tons better if you could simultaneously look around naturally by turning your head and rotate the camera around Link with the stick, just like it is in Captain Toad. I suspect that they didn't do that because it would have needed more in-depth programming to change the camera behavior so much and things like camera culling etc.
Did u mean insane
I really hope that Nintendo is interested in trying VR again (they kind of tried it with the Mario Kart VR arcade which is exclusive to Japan), PSVR 2 showed so much potential for what VR can offer, Gran Turismo 7, Resident Evil: Village and Horizon Call of the Mountain is so amazing and immersive, but I think if there's one company that could revolutionize the VR market it's Nintendo, just imagine how awesome it would be to feel like you're actually in the world of Hyrule with VR.
Funfact: Among the Nintendo Labo, the VR Kit was the best seller (and the one that received the most compatible games, even having some games from third-party companies)
@@Moshugaani yeah my bad
@@ONLYXTRAVIXX No, I think they meant inane, which means stupid
Smash bros being locked to only attached joycons is because the headset is poorly designed itself, and has no straps holding it up to your head
If you played without joycons attached the headset would literally have to magically float for you to be able to play
Imagine Metroid Prime Remastered in VR. That'd be interesting
I’d pay for it
I kept thinking when I played it that I wish this had VR. Would be really fun, and enhance the atmuspahere.
Metroid Prime would be the perfect fit for VR
My thoughts exactly.
My hopes are for the next nintendo console to ve pretty much a VR Switch (abandoning the switch form factor will be stupid at this point IMO, and the switch whole deal is multiple ways of playing in one device, putting VR on it feels like a pretty obvious next step in both concept and design...) and for it to came on launch with Metroid Prime 4, like twilight princes and breath of the wild did in the past, coming for 2 generations of nintendo consoles.
Throw in there Mario Kart VR and it that thing would sell 100+ million units with no sweat...
Even tho BOTW's VR option looks poor, I think it would be really interesting to use the 1st person perspective glitch with the VR Headset, it would probably be as immersive as you could get on the switch software right now.
I tried that, it was fun to see how big the stables look in first person VR
I tried It with a proper first person mod and it actually works pretty nice. Wouldnt play the whole game that way, but I definitely could
I think Captain Toad would be great in AR. Imagine being able to see and interact with a little Captain Toad diorama with something like Quest Pro's passthrough!
They should've done that with the 3DS version of Captain Toad

The only problem I see with this is the switches poor performance
I mean, have you tried the Virtual Boy though?
I actually wish they would do more. I liked playing BotW in VR a lot though I had to play laying down but I found that the sense of scale is properly realized. I found it really cool
The big cardboard LABO VR blaster is fun. Is a lot of work to make though. But once made, is not bad. Is the best experience I had with any Switch VR game.
2:58 I was not expecting that but Im not complaining
i was looking for a comment that said smth about that
He’s not wrong tho😅
Great breakdown! I totally agree with all of it, but Labo VR is super fun! It's like Wario Ware for VR with lots of micro games (some better than others) and a few longer experiences. I had a blast with the dedicated blaster game! I played that one quite a few times, but pumping the gun into my face made my nose hurt after while. If you're curious about VR on Switch, Labo VR is definitely the game to get. Just be aware that crafting the different cardboard devices takes a really long time, but that's just of the experience. If you don't have a lot of time on your hands, just get the basic VR blaster kit without the other peripherals.
13:27 That slight smile as you realize how loud that was was great.
This video popped up on my fyp. Actually quality content. Good job. Would like the same style of video from new PS VR2.
I've been having a rough day. That clip of Nintendo as Charlie being chased by the virtual boy was awesome. Thank you
the labo vr kit software does have genuinely nice little vr experiences, I liked them
How do you download ot
The reason you can only play smash handheld in vr, is because the nintendo labo headset DOESNT have straps, so you have to hold the headset up to your face (unless you use a 3rd party headset), I KNOW THIS because i had (and have) every single Nintendo labo set
The next Switch iteration could have decent VR. I want Mario Kart and Metroid Prime in VR
I really thought Mario kart 8 would support it, but I guess not. The 3ds Mario kart had a first person mode, but I guess they cut it.
@Jeremy Klinger It just makes sense. Endless fun that would be relatively simple to implement.
It definitely should!
Metroid Prime VR sounds so heavenly.

I see a lot of potential in vr support like the joy cons would work like the normal vr control and you could just get a break and a console at the same time plus that touch screen Soooo much potential
I have the full VR labo set, and it was loads of fun to make all the toy-cons and then be able to use them in VR. But once you have an actual headset like the Quest 2, the labo kit starts to lose its charm. Still fun to make, but you can also get the variety pack, or the vehicle kit, and use those in Mario Kart.
Sucks that they didn't have the lite in mind. I had fun with the labo blaster honestly. The cardboard was fun, you're not a fan of solid snake I see. Building was fun and more affordable than vr2
They didn't have the vr in mind when they made the lite, because lite came out years after labo.
@ego-lay_atman-bay there is a dying word called compatibility. Was nice to use the lite gyroscope with new pokemon snap at least though some of those things were way too hidden.
@@MrVariant wait, why doesn't pokemon snap have vr compatibility?
@ego-lay_atman-bay no I meant that when I play new pokemon snap, I can move the system itself to turn and take pics even on a switch lite due to gyroscopes that weren't even necessary. It's a nice comparison honestly.
@@MrVariant I know, I was just mentioning the fact that it's weird that it pokemon snap doesn't have vr support.
Whoa! Thought this video would have more views! Nice video. A real nintendo headset that could play Beat Saber and stuff would be a dream!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, an actual vr console made by Nintendo would be crazy!
Especially since joycon are basically just worse vr controllers.
Thank you for that review! Probably saved me and others time and money! Love the Switch Oled for its purpose, but that's it.
tbh if metroid used it everyone would love it
YoU gEt To PlAy *AS* SaMuS
Reflex Unit 2 was out on GearVR years ago. Long before it came to Switch. It was great on that.
I think nintendo vr is a onest first try to vr games, most of the games are not adapted right but the labo offers lots of good minigames to try, sure is not like oculus, vive or psVR. But for trying for the first time vr and not spenting lot moneys I think is pretty good
This why I'm hoping the next Nintendo system is a switch built like a pimax portal. 6dof tracking and plenty of "quest 2-like" quality titles would work extremely well, while it could still be used as a hand held or on a TV for traditional games.
that was my first experience in vr and IDK why but i loved it so muche that i get myself a rift s(WHAT A WRONG IDEA) and now i want to switch to a valve index(i played Switch VR 2 years after buying a rift s and found it horrible), awesome video!
I mean any game with motion control can be played in “vr” if you have a cheap customized headset. I got mine from a dinosaur book thing which I gutted and cut up until I liked it. So, games like Metroid prime or Doom (2016) can be played in “vr”
Now I have that custom headset and a switch lite, which fits with the headset, and I believe this allows me to connect separate joycons to my device and I think it could work, I don’t have separate joycons right now however
I hope one day modders will go crazy with labo vr and start making vr modes for games
I vaguely recall seeing the Lab-O VR Kit before but I never considered buying it (or any of the other Lab-O stuff) and forgot it had ever been a thing until seeing it again just now. I've kinda just ignored everything VR related, really. Never tried any kind of setup that works with a cell phone. Never tried the dedicated PC setups like Oculus or... whatever the other one typically mentioned on VR games on Steam is. I did try the Virtual Boy that one time it was on a store display in Toys R Us when I was a kid and at the time I thought that was neat, but it had already been swept under the rug by the next time I went in there.
I’m pretty sure the Nintendo Labo VR headset was designed for the switch and the every other VR headset wasn’t really made for it so if you try the cardboard, one is look better
Hopefully TOTK has a proper first person VR mode probably wouldn't look half bad on the OLED either
Sorry, but i don't think there will be a first person mode.
@@tim-kevinwahlert250 any reason?
@@IllegallyAcquiredKIA I could be wrong too!
But somehow such a mode doesn't quite "fit" into the game...
@@tim-kevinwahlert250 Huh, now that I think of it, you could only go to a "first person" view in BotW with the Sheikah Slate in telescope mode or camera mode. Previous games had you in first person for bows, hookshot etc. but BotW remains in third person.
@@IllegallyAcquiredKIA Nintendo is quite stubborn. They only included VR in BotW for novelty's sake while they were trying to sell Labo. But since Labo is already a thing of the past they have no reason to include a VR mode in TotK in their mind. Also it's a niche application which exceedingly few people would even use, so they're not going to spend time to make it.
Thank you for shearing!
I like what you put on you're face. Earned a sub. 😂
Lmao I felt the same way about the labo VR and the cardboard. Said the same exact thing and got the cheapest headset that would work with a Nintendo so I could check out breath of the wild VR quality.. which was underwhelming
I saw the nintendo labo vr as the second iterationof google cardboard. Remember that. It was cardboard with lenses and the display was your smartphone. Of course since your smrtphone's display is essentually cut in half to display the same image twice it wasn't even 720p.
That SAB2 in ur background🔥
They should've just made a Switch with an autostereoscopic display like is on the 3DS.
Just here to complain about the quest 2. The default head strap doesn’t work well with the shape of my head. No matter how I set it, it rests almost all the weight on my forehead and it hurts after just a few minutes. After playing for a while I can get anything between the classic red marks to a headache depending on how long I played. I’ll have to buy a new head strap if I want a confortable experience. The game library is massive but maybe you will have to buy extra accessories for the headset to be comfortable. Think about that before buying a quest 2
wait i just realized splatoon could be compatible because when you move the switch it moves with you they would just have to make the screen work with it
Jeremy Klinger how do you play skyrim on nintendo switch vr labo including master sword, hylian shield and champion's tunic?
Rosalina is thickkkk
it's rather ironic that the best section of the first party VR supported bits was captain toads rail shooter thing. Because that's not even nintendo making something new for it. They just took the Wii U motion aiming of that section that worked exactly the same way, but put the screen right infront of your head
Wow,well done, thank you. I wanted to get that cardboard vr kinda. I love vr, and I love nintendo, but I can't at the same time😢 I had a virtual boy, and my vrchat name is virtualboy
For smash if you open camera controls you can control where the hard point is
You can use another controller you don't need to use the joycons, they just have to be plugged in.
the switch vr seemed like a cool concept when they talked about it. After watching this video I'd much rather stick to my standalone oculus and PC connection from the quest. It does seem like a cool concept but in practice it looks like its not that good and also when you factor in the switches hardware and capabilities maybe it could be better if Nintendo launches a switch pro with better hardware but we'll just have to wait and see.
You could un attach the joycons and use a connecty boi (not real name) to basically make a controller
I feel like vr in the future has some potential for nintendo but not as a actually console more as a extra feature
Love the content!
Hi Jeremy, how does this work with VR videos on CZcams? Does moving your head move the video around, or do you need to use the joycon controller?
I wish they let you play as link and pick up the wepons and do all the things in botw but in vr and more interactive luckily people made different things for botw maps in vr
What is that narration technique you have where first half of sentence ends slightly higher (like raising a question) and then second half of sentence on a more resting tone (like an answer)?
Tbh, that’s just how I present, idk what it is. Why?
Hmm... I'm curious.. for BOTW there is an extremely complex glitch that i'm not even gonna try with... that let's you play in first person. I wonder how that would work in this mode. IDK I'm not skilled enough to even attempt.
Sounds to me like botw might be pretty awesome in an emulator streaming to a normal vr headset
Thanks for your honest review
You should have tried doom with gyro view, literally vr view movement
Did Nintendo reach out to you for the Nintendo Focus
I would LOVE an FPS with a cardboard gun that uses the right joycon for the angle and movement and left to shoot :D
would be an autoscroller though cuz you wouldn't be able to move
i actually have the labo vr because i got it years ago so i never actually wondered about the option😊
lmfao the Eye-Toy what a throwback
They could have made the joy cons into VR controllers easily. I don’t own this headset so I can’t say much, but what I think it’s they could have done a bit better
Nintendo should really make full fledged vr zelda and mario games. Where the game is based around vr, not like with BOTW where it seems like more of an afterthought
Did they include VR into the new Jurassic park survival game?? Cuz it is on PC, it would be a missed opportunity if they didn't
Bro i was dying the entire video 😂😂
What if you get a tv or android tablet the same size as a switch
And use that switch dongle to boost the resolution
And then put That in the VR headset thing
I have a quite similar headset, I mainly use it for watching CZcams in VR though
what
For smash bros originally when I played it you could only view replays the must of changed it
Was that like a VR dating sim when u said no? Or we're u saying no literally just because of art style?
What Nintendo needs to do, remake the vitural boy, add a strap and two controllers, make multiple franchises like Splatoon or Mario kart into VR (and maybe the labor game but remade) and do that every once in a while, with remakes, boom.
Oh and remake how it looksn
Add a projector so you wont fall in motion in the game console setup
let's hope some of the best VR games come to switch so it's actually worth it
"woaaahhhh nausea" 💀💀🤣🤣🤣
It's disappointing how half-heartedly they've treated their VR/3D experiments. With just a little more effort they could really push things. They could have copied the feature from BotW to TotK, or expanded it with an SBS mode for 3D displays. Have an alternative mode to swiveling around. Metroid Prime Remaster would have been a perfect fit (and needs justification for the $60 price tag). Smash Bros Ultimate bafflingly requires you to use connected joycons. LABO comes without a headstrap.
The Nintendo Switch and its joycons were conceptually ideal for VR, I can't believe they didn't tap in on that
Yes and no. The switch would need a camera based solution, because tracking everything via gyro input is pretty much impossible. If the next switch was built like a pimax portal, then it would be ideal
@@smittyvanjagermanjenson182 well yeah, the switch is only ideal in concept and not in practice. It should have a camera or something else for tracking purposes but it's also missing a better resolution, frame rate, processing power or battery life. But luckily the switch's very core attribute and gimmick is that it's a modular console, meaning that if they really wanted to, they could've designed some VR glasses for the switch equipped with their own set of cameras as a sort of extension for the tracking system. And of they're low power enough, these cameras could be powered by the switch when its plugged but it would be even better if the glasses came with their own battery. Not only would this not drain the switch any further than it already does on its own but it might even aid the battery life and lower the drain rate for an hour or more
@@der_noa I don't think the switch in its current state is powerful enough for vr
Things he would put on his face went crazy for a sec
The pimax portal is the switch but better with be and steam compatibility
You definately missed the point of nintendo’s trek into vr. The Labo kit was and is the definitive vr experience on switch because it was designed to be a VR experience. Sure its nice that vr modes were added to top selling switch titles, but thats just it, they were added, as in, in post, after the fact. The ability to play certain games inna new way through the use of nintendo labo was interesting sure, including with the mariokart functionality, but they were added really to give adopters of the labo products a little something extra, to give the toy cons more functionality outside the base experiences, to support the cardboard experiment, and maybe to provide a bit of extra advertisement and incentive for users to pick
Up a labo kit and see what its all about. The bulk of what you covered are not in any way vr switch games outside the third party titles. Most of what you checked out was the in game ads for/minor perk experiences of owning a labo vr headset, and were never intended to be a major selling point of the games or of the labo kit at all. They were just something extra they felt like adding to the games most people already had. If building isnt your thing, let someone who enjoys putting things together do it for you, but dont write off labo as basically nothing, the games and toy cons are well designed and sturdy, and provide some honestly crazy unique abd awesome vr experiences that other vr headsets just dont provide, and uses the hardware in ways that baffles me still at their creativity, and ability to innovate with something as simple as stickers, tape, string, straps, rubber bands, and cardboard. Obviously im a labo fanboy, but if youre going to check out nintendo VR, get some way to actually play the one real VR title they have properly, dontbwrite it off as nothing without giving it a decent chance.
Well, this was definitely worth a video.
Awesome video! But how does it look on the oled??🤔
Don’t have one, but since the resolution of the oled is the same, it’s probably rough still.
Si quieres VR de verdad, las meta quest 2 sin duda, ahi si juegas bien al zelda o viajas por world of warcraft
For those who don’t know some of the games in labo can be built in game builder garage because it the same character models!
I love this guy
i saw goat simulater has vr support they have a goat for it but its hard i bet it looks fun tho
Ultra street fighter 2 has a mode that might work well with vr
2:58💀
I'm gonna need that Rosalina art, chief
Well, since I hate myself what should I get first the fork or the Nintendo Labo VR set?
9:53 Wait, is this the only way to play the minecart stage with motion controls? Why didn't they just add in motion controls to the base game?
Most likely, don’t know why it wouldn’t be an option normally though, seems kinda odd
The way he said he wants rosalina to sit on his face,Tbh i do too😂
It was a huge missed oportunity to not make the skyward sword remake vr compatible
Go Bills 🎉( unrelated but i seen That helmet bucko ) 😊
I wouldn't recommend Phone VR because it does not have positional tracking which sets people up for motion sickness. Otherwise, great video.
Is this with the regular o OLED Switch?
Even if both screens are 720p I imagine the OLED would look better?
Since the OLED's screen is larger, the image actually shrinks, meaning that less of the pixels are used
Am I seriously the only one who didn't have a blurry bad experience with Zelda being docked? My TV upscales it to a 4k image, looks more crisp than on my switch
Thanks hope Nintendo will make something for vr❤
This thing can do VR?
Is what I thought when I first heard about this
Would be cool if it was possible to turn jailbroken Switch into something like a VR headset to play Steam VR games
It's pointless and impossible.
1. switch has an ARM soc, 0 games from the steam supports arm
2. Switch has screen with resolution 720p, 360p for each eye, it's unplayable res
3. No full tracking controllers
4. Quest 2 and 3 exists
If you are interested in trash vr you can make it with a smartphone and ps move controllers
Yeah I've been wondering why wouldn't they release a NS 3D with a 720p 3D screen (as in, 2560*720 resolution, essentially 720p for each eye) just like 3DS. At this point, even the 3-yr-old Snapdragon XR2 (or SD 865) should be well capable of that when coupled with LPDDR5 memory. I think that would be far more practical and attractive than NS VR with 360p per eye, and given the patents and experience of Nintendo with 3DS, it shouldn't be too difficult to achieve. It seems they don't want to let go of that profit margin from the minimal specs of the current gen NS.
I presume they thought 3D was dying. But in reality, 3D will never die so long as people still have two eyes. People are willing to experience it so long as it's comfortable and immersive.
So when are we getting Horizon Call of the Mountain?
Rosalina for something you wanna put on your face is so real
New Pokémon Snap would have been a perfect choice for a VR title! The game literally only plays in first person!
Right? That would’ve worked GREAT
