  • This Flexvolt battery has a problem it is charging but not powering tools either Flexvolt or XR. I through a series of fortunate events a faulty 54v 9ah battery came in to my possession. The fault was mind boggling at first. I put the battery on to charge and to my amazement it was charging perfectly then I took it off charge and tested the voltage. The voltage test revealed astonishing results there was no voltage coming out of the battery. I thought there was something wrong with the meter but when I checked it was OK. There was indeed no voltage whatsoever coming out of the battery. I tried it on a tool and at this stage there was no surprise it was not powering the tool or lighting the led. I took the step of removing the sides with the first side of it was apparent there had been a heat surge one of the connections was slightly discoloured but still intact. The other side however was a different matter three connections were completely burned through so I promptly resoldered some nickel strip across each one and the fix was perfectly completed. The Dewalt Battery range includes XR 18v or 20v flexvolt 54v or 60v and powerstack 18v or 20v. The Flexvolt battery shown is a 9ah which is powered by 21700 30T cells. battery repair is a risky undertaking and careful consideration should be taken before attempting it. It is not the intention of Doctor Lefthandthread media for any injury to occur as a result of my videos. This video is for entertainment and educational purposes only. Flexvoly battery not charging? can you fix a Dewalt XR or Flex battery? #trending #repair #dewalt #powertoolrepair

    Hi I’ve got a 12ah flexvolt battery . It goes from 1 bar to 3 bars in about 5 minutes in the charger then stops charging . Surely this can’t be right 🤷‍♂️my other 12ah one takes at least an hour

    First page I have found with very useful, thinking outside the box fixes Between this and the contact cleaner on the impacts. I have 3 impacts that do not respond to a good battery, or shut off 1 second after trigger being held. not a connection issue at the Battery. is there a fix for that? I pull tools apart for 20 foreman so I deal with alot of them...
    Can you do a DCH273/293 losing its hammer function? That is a common one I deal with at work, sick of bringing the tools to Dewalt and not seeing it for 6 weeks

    I’ve never welded nickel strips before, any tips on that before I take on this repair challenge. I have about $4,000 in dead flexvolt batteries. Ready to go back to corded tools soon if this keeps up. Just killing batteries every month in the chop and table saws.

      Yessir, most of them die within the first year as well. I haven’t been impressed with the technology as of late. I feel like there should be some sort of safety protection against overloading the battery before it’s just useless. Again, any tips on welding the nickel strips as I have never attempted this fix before.

    Why not just bridge the broken connections with solder instead of nickle strip?

    • @doctorlefthandthread
      @doctorlefthandthread  Před 2 měsíci

      It will work however I chose to use the strip to restore the fuse type set up to the battery so if an overload happens again it will blow the strip and not anything else on the board

    Why would the connection break like that is there something else wrong?

    • @doctorlefthandthread
      @doctorlefthandthread  Před 11 měsíci

      Good question the connections are designed to break like a fuse if the battery is pushed hard to stop an overload. It is usually not something that is a longterm problem only in the moment the pressure was on the battery if you reconnect with fine strip it will break if a problem occurs again.

      @@doctorlefthandthread Thank you so much for this! I have a 60 volt DeWalt battery that I used just once and it zonked out on me, and I'm 99% sure it's because of the cheap DeWalt Wannabe light I bought. It drained it while it was just sitting around doing nothing. Cuz it worked perfectly before I plugged it into that el-cheapo DeWalt Wannabe light. It's one of those "Made For DeWalt" items from Amazon. I like the light. I just hate that if I let it sit around it eats batteries like that.

    • @doctorlefthandthread
      @doctorlefthandthread  Před 8 měsíci +1

      No the battery was put under pressure. Something like being run hard on a power hungry tool there was a potential overload but these connections are designed to burn out instead of causing a battery to overload. Reconnecting them is fine because the danger was only in that moment.I do however use light nickel so in the same eventually they will burn out like a fuse again.

      They are difficult to repair most of the time all you can do is check for broken connections. If none are found discharge it fully then bring it up with a DC power supply to 17v on the lower range if it doesn't charge it is done
