Dam George change the other glass panel out while you have it drained! Hate to have this happen again.
yea, seems like a bit of a oversight there
Agreed!!
Better safe than sorry!
Yeah, with all of the resources you have at your fingertips, I'm shocked the other panel wasn't just ordered to be swapped out as well.
Agreed, I couldn’t fill that back up knowing I didn’t change both sides. Just waiting to have an issue again
George talking about how dangerous the glass panes are while wearing sandals, no gloves or eye protection
I knew this comment was coming 😅
This is embarrassing. What horrible craftsmanship. For someone you vouched for so much. And their product fucking sucks. Pathetic
@@coralfish12gyea sir, where are you shoes!!
@@coralfish12g all's well that ends well. It's a stressful situation I think we all get it if you think of the fish first lol
not tempered glass?
Wow, thats a pressure break for sure. The fact that it slowed down after the water level dropped significantly is honestly expected. The glass was forced out of place by the pressure of the water, so when the water is gone there isn't any pressure to push it out of place anymore.
Physics!
Nah he cracked it himself and just randomly had the exact size acrylic panel on deck to replace it with l.
@@braxlucky5718he wouldn’t do that because if he did he would have a immediate fix to the solution cause koi is expensive as well as the glass that broke
@@braxlucky5718people who own large aquariums often either have very common panes you can easily get or back up panes of Glass. So it's not unreasonable that he had replacement panes or pane of glass
@@touya_todoroki974 it was an acrylic panel and they don’t just have them floating around taking up space and it would have been a custom panel as-well so why not make a big dramatic video while changing out glass that you where going to do anyway.
It might be wise to get a moisture sensor or two, put them near the pond, and hook them into some kind of alarm. If this happens again, finding out sooner rather than later would be better.
Or a water level alarm, if water level drops is easier to detect than what moisture is, and it's better against false positive.
Well this answered my question swapping the glass for acrylic. I am not taking a chance for the pond windows.
Can't wait for part 2 where you'll replace the other cracked glass panel!
3:25 Flex Tape marketing definitely works...
That's the first thing I thought of as well.
Me too
Me too
wouldnt it be better if you replaced all the glass with acrylic ?
isnt acrylic expensive?
How about transparent aluminum?! jk... I am a huge acrylic fan and would 100% replace all the glass with acrylic, esp in any area prone to earthquakes.
@@susanthakuri8377 its a long term investment , coz the other glasses might break
expensive, dangerous, and unnecessary.
Your mom is being a lot more calm and patient about this than I'd be 😂 you owe her big time, sir
Rust can expand right?
The steelplates that where holding the glass was all rusted. can the rust over time create tension so the glass crack?
You are crazy moving a heavy cracked glass panel while barefoot or wearing sandals!
did you change the other glass too? maybe you should juuuust in case? lol
hey George,
I can say for 99,9% sure it started in the corner, most material tension is corner. Beside that, the top of the crack where you hurt your finger cant be shaped like that if this was the tension point. Glass was probably all fine tho, i suspect just 1 single grain of dirt between the frame and the glass while having an decent amount of pressure from the water.
George, you have some really great parents. I've been watching you since before I had my own kid, and I'm just so impressed by the lengths they go to encourage and support your dreams and schemes. I hope I can be just as supportive of my son....and I hope he keeps his ponds outside lol
I'm glad your fish made it and all is well in the end. In my opinion, that original glass isn't thick enough for that kind of load. Acrylic will be the much better option. I'd do the other sheet as soon as possible. I know it's pricey but it's cheaper than losing your fish and flooding your house if it explodes.
I worked in a public aquarium where we had one of our tanks get a huge crack in the glass and water was rushing out fast, im so happy it happened doing work hours and not doing the night or something or it could have drained our whole system of water so yeah cracked glass is never fun
"The glass is SUPER dangerous shards!" - Let's be in BARE FEET!! My dude, what were you thinking!?!?
Glad the install of the acrylic panel went well. You’re right, it’s much more clearer than glass with out any distortions and you can sand most scratches out unlike glass.
I'm glad the fish are all doing fine and that you didn't lose any! I hope everything in the basement didn't get damaged by the water!
Dang!!! George…?what an nightmare.. you handled it well bro.. had all the right emergency tools… dope❤
Are they just going to ignore the fact there was rust all over that steel? I can’t believe he didn’t have steel capped shoes on…
Yeah kinda crazy. Hes just gonna have more issues later unless he really fixes up this tank. 😂
Yikes, and you didn't bump it or anything. The important thing is you were able to get it all cleaned up, and replace it with plexiglass (which I hope doesn't crack). George, you handled it like a pro, and so did your mom. Thanks for taking us along, see you soon.🐠💕👍
Wdym bump it💀 is he the hulk or smth😂
Maybe the next design, installing a drain around the floor like a shower pan! At least it was a slow leak giving time to remove the fishes!
Wow that is crazy! Glad you caught it fast!
I've moved my Koi several times before. They are allot hardier than your average fish. As long as the moves are quick they will be fine.
I would say they are almost immortal. Lol You have to mess things up pretty badly to kill them.
It’s all hyped up drama for views
Dunno about you but it seems obvious to me the steel when it rusted expanded putting pressure on the glass same happens with steel linked above windows and doors in the uk this action is powerful enough to push brickwork up and crack buildings
Am so sorry this happened to you I have had this happen on a tank of mine and it was tiny compared to this and it was a very horrible situation hope you managed to get all the damage sorted
Apriciate your content bro, keep up the great content💯💯
Hi George.
I hope you are well, Sir.
Thankfully, Ed managed to come to your aid sooner rather than later to help you with that emergency that could have been a painful catastrophe.
Keep your head up. We all experience some kind of disaster in this hobby.
Take care, Sir.
P.S. I hope your Dad was not annoyed about that.
It is also a good thing that in your basement is not wooden flooring. 🤙🏼🙂🤙🏼❤️
Glad your fish all made it 🙏✌️
George, I'm so glad that it all worked out. I love your videos.
I do have a question. How is the acrylic window working out? Where did you get the acrylic window? What size did you order, and what was the cost?
I'm trying to decide between using glass or acrylic windows.
I am planning to build an above-ground 5500-gallon koi pond, and I want to put three windows.
I've been looking around, but I'm unsure who to trust. Any advice would help.
Everyones worst nightmare for sure with aquariums. Also that lawyer ad was pretty random lol
I know! Did he get that sponsorship after the cracked glass incident or before? What perfect timing for this video
Koi are such beautiful fish!
What happened to your shintaro koi? Glad you got it sorted 👍
Well done job changing the glass and wearing Nike slides. LOL
I love this basement koi pond so much 😂❤
I think is not enough room for these koi they need to be in a big outside pond in my opinion....they are bored
You make catching them look easy!! I just rebuilt my pond and getting them from qt to new pond 2 of them got bruised 😢
I'm glad it's fixed now George. Great job you guys. I was very worried that your Dad was going to come down and see the whole mess. I was sweating bullets.
Dad has always wanted to bbq the fish!!!
yessss acrylic much much clearer! Good choice!
glad it was fixed quickly, most long ter fish keepers get a tank fail, its just part of the fun
Acrylic is the way to go did you use epoxy against the wood frame to seal it?
All the best
I couldn't find the update of your rescue fish that you got from the pond? Did you keep any of them?
Glad the fish made it!
This is a phenomenal pond. In terms of the back section, is it basically a concrete/cement structure, sealed with something, with a glass front?
hey, can you show us a vid of you setting up your dream salt aquarium?
Hello from Schaumburg, Illinois! :)
I think Acrylic is probably better for this design, the problem with bolting in a glass pane like that is that glass is inherently prone to fracturing and even a tiny imbalance in pressure can cause it to crack and the pressure can actually weaken it over time. That's why the aquarium hobby didn't really pick up till silicone sealed and glued tanks appeared. You can find old metal frame tanks where the glass just brakes eventually because a tiny imbalance in pressure just eventually wins and the pane cracks.
The tile in the same corner is cracked. The tank has obviously settled down a little on the right hand side and caused the glass to crack. I’ve seen this happen before
Best foot protection. I also only wear sliders or am barefoot. Beautiful fish all safe now.
I wonder if you hit the Glass with your sump pump when your bringing up the pump. I do that alot with my pond.
Amazing that the Flex Seal actually works, gonna have to buy a roll for emergency... 😆
Yeah they also sometimes use that on SHips.. idk if it's flex seal brand but they have a similar tape that they use as emergency when there's a hole in a ship or something.
Omg I was horrified to see the accident, but you handled that so good 😊 I would of panicked bad 😢 But I have a bigger aquarium that’s not in use so if the accident happens to me I’ll just pop all my fish in there ❤ good to be prepared for the worst
Do more fish store tours
I have use the way Dustin teaching and until today the tank no more leaking and has been running 3 years
I’m still keeping 6 CD cover just in case in future, I need it haha
SUP FELLAS! GREAT JOB OF KEEPING US INFORMED
Is a slab of glass or a slab of acrylic more expensive? I've cut myself on thick glass on a few tank builds. Takes forever to stop bleeding.
Gorilla waterproof patch and seal tape works great. Can be installed under water. Good luck.
both side acrylic or just the broken part bro ?
SCARY STUFF 😮😢😂❤AWESOME SAVE😅
Nightmare of any aquerianer. :c I am so glad no fish get hurted and you and your family is safe (except your finger).
Would cry my tank full with tears if that would happen to me!
Best mom ever bro!
The Morgan and Morgan add is crazy😂
Oh nooo the cute fishies!
weird. I actually had this exact nightmare happen to me last year. I still remember it.
There are those tapes you can glue to the Crack to slow it down
Thermal expansion cracked that glass?
This dude is winging it still lol good for him.
I just went through a broken tank…(well not me personally!) but same as you, walked into my shop to find water everywhere! I had my two pictus cats 2 sengalese bickers and my big cat Hoover…cuz he sucks everything up like a vacuum! they were unhappy but got over it soon when I bribed them with night crawlers! Yum!
In a case like that i use underwater silicone glue for Swimmingpools and Aquarium. So you have 2 or 3 more days more time. You can fix the crack and stabilize it with plastic or glass or metal. It hold normally life long but not look well. And sometimes it hold only some days because you not see very fine cracks before. But it gives you minimum some days to repear.
If you glue it from the inside the pressure not is on the crack if you repair it from the outside the pressure is on the crack. Thats why i have a silicone i can use unter water to repair and it dry underwater
So maby you can install the new window from the inside before you cut of the old one from the outside
Less Pressure less Leaking Wow Amazing !!
You should have some of that flex seal on hand hopefully next time you can just dab some of it on there to stop the leak to begin a repair. (Writing this as you’re talking about flex seal) lol
Oh no I hope you fix it😮
Bro seems to have a bunch of issues with this basement tank the last video I seen on it it was leaking real bad now a whole ass crack how did this happen bro. I hope you’re able to get this tank figured out because it’s a really cool ya k
Get in the net! I'm trying to save you! GET IN THE NET!!
I felt that before.
One of my sumps bottom glass panels cracked after a water change, it cracked more or less the entire length of the sump and i luckily had some spare glass that i patched it with. I still have the same sump and it still leaks but its a very very slow leak and you cant even notice it other than the floor getting wet, luckily its a concrete floor so there is no damage.
Would it not be better to replace the other side as well?
I thought i was the only one in this situation right now but you are too, the living room was filled with water and my mom was pissed.
Glad that u still can film it down and immediately bunfle up with sponsor.
Is this a single layer of aquarium glass? Double laminate should be used.
this is why flex seal was invented!
Stuff actually works 😅
this would be PERFECT to test out Flexseal.....LMFAO as soon as i typed that you mentioned it hahahaha
Over tightening the window in that corner looks like a good shout.... I would of changed the other window while u was at it
yepp acrylic is much stronger than glass bcuz acrylic has more flexibility 💪🏻💪🏻 all tanks inside the aquarium i'm taking internship program use acrylic, they told me that about 10 years ago, it's an earthquake and they saw the acrylic sheet wiggled like an elastic band inside the main tank, still the same sheet until these days.
Why was the decision to use glass instead of acrylic originally just wondering what the mindset was. Was it cheaper? Was it easier? Was it more available? I’m really curious and I’m glad you weren’t hurt or the fish.
Money? Much much cheaper im assuming
I hope your koi are happy :).
How does glass that thick crack like that ?
is that rust from the steel not bad for the water and fish??
I dont think its rust i think its just dirt and debris that have built up
1000- Litre ICB you should keep as holding tanks
Wait, where’s the koi you gave to your mom for Valentine’s Day???
wait yeah your right i can't see it at all in the group of koi????
I think you should have considered changing second glass😊
How's the smell in there?
every aquarists worst nighmare. waking up to a cracked or broken tank
13:05 Not capping but GOD DAYM acrylic looks like there isn't any glass in there lol. But yeah they scratch super easy.
the tape or glass should be on the inside so the pressure holds it against the glass
Yup this is correct. otherwise the tape would just fall off.
the guy who made it literally shows himself putting it on the outside of water leaks 🤦
Wow. Just wow
In the boating world, they make a puddy that you can go ununder water with stick it in cracks, holes slits. And it should hold water out or in not flex seal garbage.
Hmm… I tripped on a leed and sent a double adaptor into the side of my my tank 30 years ago… had to transfer my fish into tiny tanks, lost everything but the carp. I can relate to the panic and focus on a solution.
I can’t believe he let you handle that broken glass with bare feet.
