    Zaire probably changed their name to Democratic Republic of the Congo so they wouldn't have to wait an extra decade for their Geography Now episode like their African neighbors Zambia and Zimbabwe.

    I'm from Belgium, I once read a book about leopold II. That man was one of the most evil peaces of human being. I can't grasp how we kind of ignore his atrocities in our history books. There are still streets and institutes named after him and even some statues. It's like having a 'hitler street' in Berlin. Comparisons with hitler are almost always exaggerated, but not in this case.

      Isaac Raschke dont say “their” fault... the leaders’ fault ... Mobutu ALONE stayed in power for 32 years and no schools built, no roads built, NOTHING. Ok except the Barrage de Inga (not sure if it was really him, but still!)... he was feeding western countries as he was himself a toy... he lived his best life ! With a palace full of marble ... he invited kings and presidents to his home to “show off” ... for 32 years?!!! If students graduate after 17-20 years of school (from primary to uni) then 32 is enough to have a rocky base for the future! Ingénieurs and scientists are very important for research and development!
      Then he had to be replaced and Kabila the “father” came with his troops from Neighbouring countries, opening another door for conflicts... the countries that helped him take the power wanted their pay off and said “give us the resources...” he said “huh let’s me think about it... NAH!”
      Then he was assassinated 4 years later. And surprise!!! Who became president ? Joseph Kabila! People were against it ! Why him? Who is he? “His son” “WHAT?” “We dont want him!” “Shut up”!
      So Kabila the “son” stayed in power since 2001 and left this year after a 2 year extension during his “second” (in reality it is the third) term. Things even got worse!!!! He even wanted to change the constitution to stay longer in power... before leaving, he made a speech (if it wasn’t his first speech?) and said “we need to choose as a president someone that isn’t linked to foreigners ... because you will have to give them back what they had helped you to take !”
      I paraphrased it though ... but he literally was saying that people had put him there and when especially he sold Uranium to Iran, USA got mad and wanted to get rid of him. So in order to protect himself, he tried to find an agreement with the new “elected” president. “Don’t kill me !”
      So saying that “it is their fault is at the same time ignorance and the truth”... if you really think that the major countries aren’t saying or doing anything “bad” in this country you are lying to yourself ... on the other hand, the Congolese leaders are if not the stupidest, the most strange people in the world ! I have tried to understand them but I can’t !
      I made it as short as I could .

      Maciej Sochacki Veel van overgedreven ? Ja, dat zou ik toch wel ook toegeven, maar gij ga mij niet zeggen dat wat die man allemaal gepleegd had niet barbaars was, ook al was dat de norm van die tijd! Zijn daden waren misselijkmakend.

    • @maciejsochacki9534
      @maciejsochacki9534 Před 8 lety +4

      barbaars voor nu ja
      (ik studeer geschiedenis) ik heb geleerd om dingen in een ander daglicht te zien... in die tijden was er geen andere manier, ja uithongeren zoals ze nadien deden, maar als we zo gaan kijken dan moeten we elke wereldleider uit de 19de eeuw beschuldigen...
      en ik hoop dat niemand hier op reageert met zijn apple of samsung smartphone, want die mensen wat de grondstoffen etc moeten verzamelen, worden tegenwoordig ongeveer even erg uitgebuit...
      de wereld draait rond 1 ding, geld...
      congo was een economisch 'experimentje' van de koning... die probeerde ook op bepaalde manieren meer geld binnen te krijgen...
      keur ik het goed? nee
      zou dat vandaag gebeuren... euhm het is nog steeds bezig, maar subtieler...
      kan men het die man kwalijk nemen... hmmm europa was toen vollebak bezig met de wereld te onderwerpen... niet echt dus... zoals ik zei, andere landen deden ergere zaken... de zuiderse amerikanen zien de donkere tot vandaag als mindere en zouden nog eregere zaken doen, stel dat de slavendrijvens in de 19de eeuw een 'leider' hadden... dan zou ook in de top 10 van ergste moordenaars/mishandelaars uit de geschiedenis staan...
