I parked at the village of Thorpe on 8th September. I was sat on the top of Thorpe with my thoughts as it was the one year anniversary of my Mum passing. Little did I know at that time it was the day the Queen passed. When I got to stepping stones there were about 50 people there. I walked up to lovers leap and just passed that my trail branched up to the right as I was on my Ethel journey to Tissington Hill. I too passed a lot of litter and think from now on I'm taking an empty bag with me. People get under my skin who just dump litter. They come to beauty spots then ruin them. On the way back to Stepping Stones it had poured down and there was only 4 people there. Great vlog Patrick, thanks for sharing.

The litter has always been a bug bear of mine, and when I met the ranger during the filming of this walk last year, it just brought home how thought people can be. Anyway thanks again Chris for taking the time to watch and for commenting 👍

Morning Russ, thanks for watching. It didn't take long to become busy here when I filmed this but at least it was quiet at the stepping stones and Thorpe Cloud. Amazing what people's expectations are really, bleedin wifi indeed! 😁

A most excellent video, Patrick. I rate Dovedale myself as the finest of the Peak District ones. All those naturally formed limestone crags, each with their individual names are astonishing, together with the stepping stones across the river and also the caves, too. You obviously went about the walk in the correct manner, with the children back at school, and being there fairly early before the crowds of people fill this lovely place. Thorpe Cloud looks spectacular from the Dale, and when you climbed it the views of the surrounding area were beautiful. The little village of Milldale is so quaint, I'd say. Many thanks for this film, you filmed it on a gorgeous day of sunny weather.

Cheers Ffranc. You'll have gathered from this that Dovedale is one of my favourites. I deliberately waited until kids were back at school before filming here, as well as getting to the stepping stones around 7am before that area got flooded with hundreds of visitors. I've always loved Milldale too. Thanks as always for watching and commenting 👍

Hello from Australia! Especially love this video of Dovedale and Thorpe Cloud, can understand why it's one of your favourite places. I originally came across your videos (and I've watched and love them from afar) when I was looking for Sycamore House in Bonsall. My ancestor's owned it and descendants lived there for near on 200 years! This is my first time commenting as always watch on TV and can only 'like' your videos. I've been looking forward to your new ventures as am particularly loving Derbyshire and Peak district, learning so much about all areas my ancestors lived. I want to say how much your efforts are appreciated in all you do. It's an escape for me also because where I live is currently still affected by lockdowns and rising case numbers unfortunately. Hopefully opening up again soon. Anyway, thanks again for doing what you do.. Cheers from across the seas 👋

Great to know that you enjoy my work, it is a lot to do especially when I'm working full-time too, but I enjoy making these films when I can and it is much appreciated when others like yourself can watch and enjoy, so many thanks for that. I remember years ago when our girls were little we took them to this area. They were amazed how the sheep walked on the hillsides. My husband told them the sheep had longer legs on one side of their bodies, so they didn't fall. We still laugh about it today.

A retired, but still active pair of old codgers!
Before covid, we went back to UK, every two years, two walk, hike and ramble, including approx 42 Wainwrights.
Some of our walk, hikes, rambles have been in Derbyshire, but we never really explored Dovedale.
Your Dovedale videos have made us absolutely fall in love with that region.
What a glorious area you’ve revealed to us.
Makes our hearts ache that Covid has buggered up our chances of doing the walks that you’ve shown.

One of your best Patrick, should be shown exactly as it is on tv,stunning locations made better by the lack of crowds due to the early start, and lovely music which I found myself humming afterwards, you had a great day weatherwise, and all those long shots which involved setting up the camera to walk away to do the shot, and then walk back to it must have been exhausting, would love to bump into you on one of my walks in the same area to say hi,I pick up litter too along canals and rivers and you wouldn't believe the amount of litter left in beautiful places that could easily be taken home, left right next to bins too sometimes,I haven't commented much lately but rest assured I'v looked forward to and enjoyed every single minute of every one of the 154 films, and will continue to do so,thankyou so much for all the hard work both in the days filming, and everything that comes after it to make this beautiful film.
    Pete.

Many thanks Pete as always for all your kind words. Glad you enjoyed the musical theme. This was one of two very hot days at the start of September, so I got out whilst I could and it was essential that I got to those stepping stones as early as I did. I talk a bit about the filming when I set up the camera and walk away to do the shots in a future film. The litter is a real shame and I wish I could understand how other people's minds work when they just leave it there. Thanks again Pete for all your support 👍

I used to struggle on parts of the track because then i was a broad girl lol! I couldn't get through that stone style 😳 but now here i am ten stone lighter and hiking mountains at almost 71! Everywhere we go, we see litter and are disgusted by it!
When hubby and i met you, we thought what a truly nice bloke you are! Not an awful amount of good ppl left but thankfully, on our hikes, we do meet the good ppl! I think i'ts because the higher walks seem to attract them, more than the idiots! I've enjoyed this, thank you once more!

Just the odd eight hours there Patrick. We are just coming to the end of a two week stay in North Norfolk and managed a number of pleasant walks. As I get older, I’m getting more intolerant of ‘people’, and find myself trying to avoid them more and more. Another great film and I see you have almost caught up following recent problems with your software, as this walk was only three weeks ago. Another excellent film Patrick. Very wise getting up early to have Dovedale to yourself. Looks like it was worth it. It’s a beautiful place isn’t it but the sheer number of people keeps me away. It’s strange to think that Biggin Dale and Wolfscote Dale are so close by but are so quiet in comparison. The trip advisor comments made me smile. It’s hard to believe they are genuine as they are that silly. I always chuckle about the one about Ben Nevis where someone complained it was too cold, there were no views and the lack of a pub at the top was disappointing 🤣

However, it makes entertaining reading for the rest of us! 🤣 Wolfscote and Biggin Dales to follow in future films. Just for your reference - seeing you walking over the stepping stones at Dovedale is exactly where Guthrie (Zombie number one) attacked the actress Cristina Galbo (Edna) in the 1974 horror movie 'The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue.' Galbo fell from the stepping stones into the river as Guthrie pursued her.
