OPERA SINGER benefits from Moore masterclass to capture Nassau Stakes

- Opera Singer benefitted from a fine front-running ride by Ryan Moore to oblige at 10 furlongs on the first time of asking in the Qatar Nassau Stakes at Goodwood - and now looks bound for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
Last season’s champion juvenile filly had a setback in the spring, which delayed her return to action and denied her an outing in the 1000 Guineas.
A daughter of Justify, she made her comeback in the Irish equivalent, surpassing expectations when finishing third, and she came forward again when narrowly beaten by Porta Fortuna in the Coronation Stakes.
Moore was keen to dictate on Aidan O’Brien’s charge and she took two lengths out of the field with two furlongs to run.
The closers were gaining deep inside the final furlong, with Andrew Balding’s See The Fire running a career-best and getting to within a neck, while French Oaks winner Sparkling Plenty rattled home for third behind the 9-4 winner.
However, the supplemented Emily Upjohn was disappointing, never threatening to get in a serious blow.
O’Brien said: “We’re so positive with Justify. When Ryan got off her last year, he said this filly would come back and win the Arc. When he rode City (Of Troy) last year, he said something the same, that he’d never ridden something like it before.
“Ryan gave her an incredible ride, he was so confident about her. We listen to what Ryan says, he tells us and we follow him all the time.
“Ryan said after the Boussac last year ‘this filly will win the Arc’. We had an interrupted spring with her, she was barely ready for a racecourse gallop in the spring, when she went for the Guineas.
“We left her after that to go to Ascot and she ran a great race, but what we were wanting to do was step her up to a mile and a quarter all the time and that was here.
“There’s every chance she’s going to get a mile and a half. Ryan said she was very classy to do that in front of a bunch of fillies like that and Ryan said she fought as well. I’m impressed with her really.
“She could go to one of the fillies’ races in France, she could go to the track (ParisLongchamp) and have a look at it. The Vermeille or those kinds of things, but the lads will decide what they want to do.
“I don’t think she needs to (run over the trip prior to the Arc), but she could do it; we’ll see, I suppose. I don’t want to be saying we’ll do something and not do it, but she’d have to run once before then anyway.
“She got a mile very strong in the Boussac, she opened up going into the furlong marker and galloped through the line.
“I couldn’t believe she was placed in the Irish Guineas, couldn’t believe it, she wasn’t ready to be placed but she got placed.
“The second day Ryan just felt another horse went to make the running and it just messed up his pace a little bit. He was over the moon with her and she was beaten by a very good filly.
“It always looked like the filly was crying out to go over a mile and a quarter or a mile and a half. Justifys, one thing about them is they keep going. Every one of them is the same, they just keep going.”
Speaking further on his jockey, O’Brien smiled: “Ryan? He should keep improving until he’s 45 and he’s only 40! I always keep telling him, every year he’s getting better.”
Moore added: “I was very confident she would stay. We always felt when she won the Boussac at a mile last year that, staying on very well, she would be a 10- or 12-furlong filly.
“We’re still learning about her but she’s shown herself to be top class. She should build on this as well. She does everything beautifully.
“I thought she would take a lot of beating today and hopefully she will improve again. I could absolutely see her being an Arc filly, but there is plenty of water to go under the bridge.”

Its Opera Singer did the running , the carrying , and then showed the true grit and heart needed to stick it out 💚
Well what did you guys expect to happen? She’s related to almost every past Triple Crown Winning Champion that ever lived so she has obviously inherited all of that tremendous raw talent and athleticism💞💞🐎💞💞
Aiden is my hero - what an absolutely lovely man. It must be a pleasure working for him. A legend!
I hope you're happy with him, and delighted for the lads...
Always thought this horse was incredibly talented. Very good victory in a pretty deep race.
I love how AOB always names everyone who has any involvement with the horses
She’s obviously a top class filly, but what a ride from Ryan Moore, that as a joy to behold.
What a champ ! Amazing animal !
Agreed💞
Ryan Moore is worth his weight in gold, and them some!!!!!
top class filly + top jockey 👌
Not a bad trainer either 👍
This has been going on for ages in every jurisdiction.whoever rides all the favs is a genius.jockeys are not part of equation.its all horse
F1 is the same best car wins.
@@galdessa1...The best horse doesn’t always win though & the jockey can make a huge difference. One of the greatest examples was Dancing Brave getting beat in the Derby. Tactical awareness & strength in a finish are pivotal & nobody is better than Ryan at the moment.
And people were saying 1m2f was too far 🤣
Show me one person that said that

Can we say anything more to praise the greatest rider by a mile!💯
Yes we can...William Buick, and he can string a sentence together.
@@jarvsie Ryan’s ridden 3 winners today that are better than any of William’s all season 🥱
@@JimmyLindley-mf5ws 3 Favs, hardly difficult, Tom rode 2 winners today does that make him 2nd best jockey.
@@galdessa1 no Fallon is
@@JimmyLindley-mf5ws...You’re 100% correct, Ryan Moore is different class at the moment. That ride on Opera Singer was unreal.
Ryan the best flat rider in the world
interesting that American sires are considered to be speed heavy, yet American Pharoah and Justify have produced very good stayers on turf. BTW, check out Supa Speed, 2 yo from Justify bred to one of O'Brien's American Pharoah's (Elfin Queen), won today in debut as well at Del Mar.
Sparkling Water left far too much to do, pity, she looks very good indeed
Best horse finished in third
But what was the jockey doing on emily upjhon,,kept taking her back and back
Didn't have a plan A B let alone C ..he's garbage

American blood prevails again!
What in the name of 😮God what was shoemark at ffs needs
He had loads of horse under him and never gave her the chance to move up.
No disrespect, Opera Singer has ran a brave race and Moore gave her the best ride possible, but i wouldn't be in any hurry to back her for the Arc, another two strides and she would have been second.
Nothing to see here... just Ryan farming in Goodwood😂
Once Ryan Moore took her to the front end and got her out on the lead, she by then had what was considered the more serious contenders like Emily Upjohn, French Oaks winner Sparkling Plenty. Also, same day winners at Newmarket on English 1000 Guineas day winner Elmalka and Dahlia Stakes winner Stay Alert were on the stretch from quite a way out. Loved the way Ryan Moore rode her with a ton of confidence, kept her mind on her job, and rode her hard in the final 2-1/2F as to complete the job and score a major G1 victory for this talented daughter of American Triple Crown winner Justify. After the race, jockey Ryan Moore told ITV Racing that she stayed well in last year's G1 Prix Marcel Boussac. Moore said after the ways she blitzed the Boussac field by 5+ lengths last October at Longchamp that he and Aidan O'Brien always felt she'd stay ten furlongs & twelve furlongs, with Moore going on to say that when she won the Boussac last year that he thought Opera Singer was an Arc filly (for the future). If Moore & O'Brien's post-race comments hold true, it appears that step up in trip from 10F to 12F will come next for Opera Singer in 3 weeks time at York in the G1 Yorkshire Oaks over 12F with trainer Aidan O'Brien nominating the Arc as her likely end of season target. With her win today at Goodwood, Opera Singer was cut from 12-1 to 5-1 by European bookies for the G1 Yorkshire Oaks, and she was shortened from 20-1 to 12-1 for the G1 Prix De l'Arc de Triomphe in October.
Who owns Justify as O'Brien was promoting him again.
@@galdessa1coolmore
@@galdessa1 , During his racing days Justify was owned by China Horse Club, Winstar Farm LLC, SF Racing LLC, & Head Of Plains Partners LLC. He went to stud in 2019 for Coolmore as the only undefeated Triple Crown winner in history. He's currently standing at Ashford Stud-(Coolmore America) owned by John Magnier near Verailles, Ky., right outside of Lexington. He also has the other TC winner American Pharoah there right now too, but I'm pretty certain they are both shuttle stallions for Coolmore and also stand in Australia & Ireland at certain times of year.
Wow you know it all then did you back it.i think so way you went suckin them for all a day long😅
According to AOB The lads have the last say… imho AOB has the final say !
Will not be beaten again this season
Certainly rode a better race than Shoemark - watch the move he makes at 1.00 which effectively ends the favs chances as Moore has a solo up the front end.
Gosden really seems to struggle with jockeys and at this stage I would just be putting Rab Havlin on my decent horses.
No one would have won on Emily Upjohn, she just didn't want to know today, maybe if Gosden had removed the headgear like he did when she was second in the Eclipse to Paddington it might help? But she's just not a reliable horse as she's shown many times in the past, in all honesty, she should have been retired at the end of her four year old career.
@@Thomas-vg8ov I didn't say she would win but at some point you need to put your horse in the race and that never happened - which is a recurring theme with Shoemark.
He takes the horse back to try and slot in and get cover which never happens as he is still trapped out wide and has lost about 5 lengths with that manoeuvre. The horse is then keen and he still has to come widest of them all to try and get involved. Meanwhile Moore has had a solo out in front and the race is over about 3 furlongs from home.
It's a shocker of a ride.
@@Essydyk I didn't say you thought she would win, but it's hard to put a horse into a race when the horse doesn't seem to want to be in the race, but I'm sure that the owners will start to get a little tired soon if Shoemaker doesn't start winning some big ones.
How was that a Masterclass, when he rode the same race on Henry Longfellow and lost?
quality
anybody know why the jockeys were wearing black armbands today
A friend died on a motor bike.
Shoemark just simply not good enough..
It's not just Shoemark. The horse keeps getting backed in and fails 8/10 times. Bonkers how she was favourite again.
@@RandyWatson69She was favourite on the grounds of being a decent second last time and having ran some good races in the past, plus they supplemented her for the race, but you are correct, it wasn't Shoemaker, she just a very untrustworthy mare, they should have retired her at the end of her four year old season.
The difference great jockey makes. Sparkling plenty given a terrible ride by cristian demuro. He is seriously overrated, dellius was another one of his Jamie Spencer moments.
The most overrated jockey in history…he was lucky the horse was so brave and lasted it out
Clearly don’t know racing if you think that
@@JustSimqLeHDMoore rode a fair race and slipped them, but she did just hold on, another two strides and it could well have been a different winner.
@@Thomas-vg8ov if my auntie had balls she’d be my uncle
Rossa Ryan or young mc gonagel should be Gosdens number one shoemark definitely not up to this job and while l am at it Crowley is finished as well can't ride a finish needs the door 🚪
Sparkling Plenty jockey cristian demuro was tourin between horses. Verybad ride. If he has settled better he will be an easy winner

Wrong, racing in Deauville
@@galdessa1 is he didn't know that he was rideing there glad boudeax is back will keep an eye 👀 out for him or is soumillon rideing in Deauville
When he rides the best horse in the race it's somehow a master class. He can't ride a horse When there is more than 8 horses in a race
Awful ride on Emily Upjohn all he had to do was track and follow Ryan Moore out the stalls (he was literally drawn next to him). This is a prime example of a world class jockey (Ryan) vs a shit one (Kieran). In the space of 5 seconds Ryan is already dictating the pace of the race meanwhile Kieran is still trying to get a position. Doubt he’ll ride for Gosden for much longer there are way better jockeys than him out there.
What is all the blather about the Arc? She just held off See the Fire who hasn't come close at the top level in 3 prior starts this year. Meanwhile what a waste of a year for Emily Upjohn; should have been retired & bred...never reached the potential that was accorded to her; on the bright side, at least they didn't try for a third straight King George brow-beating this year.
She done all the running. Of course those behind who relaxed have more energy as the finish post approaches.
@@Eddie36144 Opera Singer always races on or near the lead; she wasn't taken out of her comfort zone such that See the Fire should have found 2+ lengths on her from their last meeting; either See the Fire suddenly is vastly improved (she's not) or Opera Singer was found wanting on the step up in trip to 10 furlongs despite winning; now we are going to step her up further to 12f & add real top level competition in the world's greatest race & expect her to be a major player? She's a no-hoper in the Arc & a middling contender in the Prix de l'Opera.
@@tomojay28 Let's see. I never mentioned she will win the Arc, I reacted to your "blather" comment. I believe it was a deep enough field, See the Fire looked good, horses can progress.
@@Eddie36144 I didn't reply as if you said she would win the Arc; but my original comment was about her actual Arc prospects so I tried to stay on that point; maybe See the Fire improved several lengths in just a couple of weeks or maybe Opera Singer didn't progress from her 2yo campaign and/or maxes out in trip at 10 furlongs; IMO she should focus on the BC FM Turf where these types can stay a little further; APOB says she'll get another run before the Arc so we should get some clarification before the big race.
Shoemark as jockey is shocking i hope the owners if they got a good horse in stable get someone else he will not win a group one race
Nothing to do with Shoemaker, Emily Upjohn just didn't turn up, even Gosden has stated similar to that.
