    Lithium polymer four? Wtf is that?
    Lithium (Li) Iron (Fe) Phosphate (PO4)....

    • @RevereOverland
      @RevereOverland  Před 3 lety +15

      Lithium polymer (LiPo) is a common name for this type of lithium battery, where a polymer gel electrolyte is used. You can also call this particular one lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4), which refers to the chemical composition of the cathode, and would be the better and more specific name. Dave mixed the two up - putting someone on camera adds a lot of pressure, and it's easy to make mistakes.

    Such a great video Rob. If I'm being honest, I've been intimidated with 12v systems in general and have gotten by with using power banks. I would love one of those all in one kits. No, but there very much is such a thing as a lithium polymer (LiPo) battery. The 4 doesn't belong, but it's super easy to mix things up on video (like combine LiFePO4 and LiPo and not even notice). I did a video where I called my water heater a 'hot water heater' the entire video, even though I know darn well it doesn't heat hot water. Thankfully neither his mistake or mine took away from the content of the video, so I left both in.

    I've got one northstar group 29 agm in my f150 for cranking battery running winch light bar charging tablets phones lights and a 55 qt dual zone fridge and freezer. 4 years now spending about 2 months a year with my truck as base camp. Got 1 fold out 200 watt panel I hook up at camp and it runs everything indefinitely as I stay at camp about 2 weeks at a time without cranking my truck. I've never had a problem at all. I'm sure all these products are good but it's not been complicated for me at all bought my renogy 200 watt panel with controller on black friday for like 200 and battery was 300. 500 total for simple non complicated energy source that's done everything I needed. Battery and panel still easily keeps up with my needs after 4 years and cranks my truck easily after 2 weeks.

    Just a thought I would love feedback on. Is it possible to just use a deep cycle battery ie x2power by northstar to power all your electronics. Then use solar to recharge that same battery? I understand you would need an inverter for certain accessories and a control box to monitor overcharging with solar. But is that possible? Seems much easier to me.

    How do these methods stack up against the Genesis dual battery setup? I ran Genesis on my '13 JKU and it was great. I did have problems with the Optima AGM batteries because it wasn't a daily driver and I didn't keep a charger on them but a battery replacement fixed that.

    and all these decades i have been doing it wrong? just two reg car batt wired together using welding cables and a factory stock alt.
    one set of welding cables going down to my winch. a welding cable to chassis, frame, motor for grounds. and just better grade car wire to the starter. Huge resistance going through the starter relay so no reason to up grade that wire.
    the winch under a full hard pull, pulled less than the starter.
    no stereo, just a cb, thinking adding for a ham radio. some lighting. will be adding some this year. so will up grade to a higher out put alt.

    • @RevereOverland
      @RevereOverland  Před rokem

      Lifetime, capacity, and charging speed. A Jackery charges incredibly slowly, most have less capacity than 100Ah, and last about 10% the cycles a LiFePO4 battery would. Since this video was published, there have been a lot of improvements to battery packs - Anker and Ecoflow both make packs that rival a Battleborn setup.
