- www.nucleushealth.com/ - This medical animation shows the myringotomy (ear tube) procedure to remove fluid from the middle ear to create equal air pressure on both sides of the eardrum, and to reduce risk of infection. In this surgery, the doctor makes an incision in the eardrum (tympanic membrane) and implants a small ventilation tube which eventually dissolves.

The eustachian tube is also called the auditory tube.
Secondary infection that occurs during or after a common cold is called otitis media, infection of the middle ear. In severe cases, myringotomy is needed to drain the pus accumulates in the middle ear, in addition to antibiotic therapy, usually ampicillin or amoxicillin.
You say right sir I salute you
I thought they just put a tube in the ear canal. Now I know why it hurt so much, they made an incision in the eardrum.
I had this very procedure about 9 months ago. I just sat in the chair. I had no anesthesia. It felt like a little pin prick when he cut the hold and then inserted the drain. It was over in about 5 minutes. He prescribed antibiotic drops and my ear infection was cleared up in a couple of weeks. The drain fell out on its own in a couple of months. -- I got up and drove home. I had no pain at all.
Is your ear ok now?
How are u now?
when the drain fell on its own did you take it out of your ear?
did you hear well after the procedure ??for me its been 2 days after my procedure and now I cant hear anýthing only the sound of silencw and still feel very dizzy all the time..is that normal?
@@liza2300 how are you now? May ENT scheduled me to undergo myringotomy next week,im so scared

This channel is just amazing, makes concepts clear to a medico like me... Would be happy if u add more videos on opthalmology,ENT
Thank you!
And remember people, always get your ears cleaned of wax regulary.
That's what I got told today by the doc, lots of wax I have, but I clean my ears, not that good tho if he's saying that!
Thank you for giving information
This is a great channel :)
excellent job
That you for explaining!
Nucleus medical media, can you put a video for stomach pain surgery also that how it should be done?
The ear drums sounded like drums AHAHAHA LOL I LAUGHED LOUD
stop saying that hhahahhaha
This is not funny. I know it sounds like drums. But its not right to accuse the video.
I had this same surgery (if it lasts seven minutes would still count as surgery) when i was 7. But because if this my parents wont let me go swimming anymore or even kept close watch when I have runny nose. After surgery i still have those popping sensations when yawning or swallowing but not the swelling anymore. But because of my normally enlarged tonsils my voice would sound nasally for life :')
Very nice
A very good way of presentation
Glad you liked it
v.nice
I had this procedure done when I was very young. For all of my life, I have been very sensitive to loud sounds. Wonder if it was because of my ear infection?
No i donot have ear infection but i am sensitive to loud sounds
After your surgery you feel OK? You are no more sensitised of the loud sound?
No the 3 bones is hammer anvil and stirrup
How successful is this procedure? Can I expect not have fluid buildup again?
I had way to many visits to ER for fluid behind the media "middle"
Now I know why..
4:08 - In other parts of the world, acetaminophen is called paracetamol.
The medical names and the common names of the parts of the middle ear:
Malleus - hammer
Incus - anvil
Stapes - stirrup
Thanks alot for this vid. I get ear infections all the time and i have to put a tube in my ear every year or so. Even tho i kinda knew about this, it was informational. thanks
What tube??
You had Undergone surgery?
I just had this procedure yesterday under local anesthesia and it took probably 10 minutes to do both ears. I did not have tubes put in, just my eardrums lanced and the fluid suctioned. It was not that bad.
LetThereBeRock31 Has your hearing improved after the procedure?
@@gabskobayashithey never mention the result of the surgery lol
@@eiramproductions4490 Mine improved, but not 100%

hmm i always wondered about the popping noise when yawning as well when im able to blow air out my ear, also when i have a stuffy nose if i snort really hard i feel like i sucked in air through my ear, so would that help suck out fluid thats trapped in the ear?

Jeez, I've literally just got back from the clinic, I caught a bug/flu last Tuesday, and I went totally deaf in left ear. I woke up today to find blood drops on my pillow and I've been put on a weeks anti biotic course. I hope to fook it don't get worse 😣

I Had A Myringotomy 3-4 weeks ago And I didn’t NEED a IV
An otologist (not my regular ENT) wanted to do this procedure in office with local anesthesia only! I said no way as I'm quite anxious about the procedure and would prefer to be asleep. Otologist was rude about my fears by responding "I'm not bringing you to the OR!" I told him I heard that one can be asleep for this surgery. Sounds like being asleep isn't unusual. Definitely looking for a different doctor who will do this surgery under iv sedation or GA!
hi. i encounter the same with you. through extensive research, i discover a special widget called "eardoc" which require no surgery.. go check it out..
I've never heard of it. Thanks for sharing, I'll check it out!
+Laura Eager When i had 12 years i did asleep the surgery.
I did it awake, its bearable but very unpleasant. The drs will enjoy giving u pain. They laughed at me
I like you n
This happened to me because I not cleaning my ear I slep the buds
Got this done 10 minutes ago, no tube, hearing did not improve, but instead sounds like I’m underwater, I did it to relieve pressure/did not work, will come back to update.
How are u feeling
@@karupan3129 day 4 and it’s not feeling any better, nothings changed. Was told that it would be back to how it was in a week of time. Do not get this procedure done unless you are sure it’ll help with your issue.

Is it normal to encounter ear ringing after the procedure? I had this done today and the ear ringing is gone but after they put the tube. The ear ringing is comeback and it’s high but the good thing is i feel relief. I was wondering it’s because of the tube but the doctor said he will remove it after 7 days.
Is the ringing still there? Gotten better? worse?
Any luck with the ringing?
Is your ear better now I did mine just 2 weeks ago now I have a rumbling noise and ringing in my ear that doesn’t go away

I just had this done 2 days ago and I'm dizzy and ears feel muffled is this normal???
How does it feel now, just got mine 5 minutes ago, I feel TERRIBLE, help!
@Gaige Smith it's been 5 weeks, I had to go to another ENT because the pain, muffled and ringing never stopped and they were clueless, the new ENT said he thinks there was nerve damage so I'm on nerve medication for 6 weeks getting MRI and we will see, I do know If it doesn't clear up I will be getting an attorney, this is 100 times worse than before I had procedure done, good luck with everything
@@gaigesmith9674how are you now
I was using ear plugs over a few months playing piano everyday
Must have gotten infect this way
I also started using headphones and I did notice how the cushion put pressure behind my ear on that tube
I had fluid buildup back there
Either from the ear plugs or headphones
I think I have tinnitus now
I went swimming in a pool and that started everything
It was like water got in my ear but I couldn't get it out like usually and it stayed that way over night
After recovery no more fluid in that tube but ringing remained
It's like God has cursed me
I'm so disappointed I think this injury is permenen t for life
U mean tinnitus?
Do you still have the ringing?
Malus = Hammer
Incus = Anvil
Stapes = Stirrup
I just had this done 30 mins ago 😭
Has the drain fallen out of your ear? Like did you take it out of your ear when it fell?
Same
U guys just leave negative news and doesn't update
I had this done to me 4 or 5 years ago and it only took the specialist 10 mins or less. I was awake too and i think he didn't give me anaesthesia (but put something liquid in my ear, so i guess that is an anaesthesia of some sort) cos the incision hurt as fuck but it was fine after that. Also the thing that scared me the most was the fact that he called in his assistant to hold my head in place as he was making the incision. But as soon as the incision was made. Instant relief. Then he prescribed eardrops to help with the healing process.
Now I don't wanna do it fuck
Is your hearing normal now?
