Fish Taxidermy: Casting Trout Head

This video will give a basic description of how to cast a custom head for your fish mounts. Coldwater fish it is best to use an artificial head so you don't have to worry about grease leak over time casting your own gives you the exact head instead of buying a commercial done one. The fresher the head and the better the field care will give better results.

Awesome video. Do you get a lot of detail of inside the mouth ? Like gills and crusher teeth? Or esophagus ?Thanks.

Thanks! Casting this way will give good detail if the alginate is mixed right. The teeth will typically need to be rebuilt but mostly the detail will be pretty good inside of the mouth.

When casting this way in alginate a release agent is unnecessary the fish will pop out and usually the cast will too but it is a one time mold so it can also be cut open to get the cast out.
