The Kartarpur Corridor is a 4.7-kilometer passage connecting the Indian border town of Dera Baba Nanak in the state of Punjab to the shrine of the founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, in the Pakistani village of Kartarpur. The Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara is considered one of the holiest places for Sikhs and attracts a large number of devotees from India and around the world every year.
The construction of the Kartarpur Corridor was initiated by the government of Pakistan as a gesture of peace and goodwill towards the Sikh community. The corridor was opened to the public in November 2019, and since then, Indian citizens have been able to visit the Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara without a visa, provided they possess a valid passport and a permit.
The opening of the Kartarpur Corridor has been widely seen as a positive step towards improving relations between India and Pakistan, two countries with a long history of strained relations. The passage has also been hailed as a symbol of religious freedom and a testament to the deep cultural and historical ties between the people of the two countries.
