But I suppose there is some merit to his claims nevertheless. Looks like the Apostles that, still despite the freedom granted to them, do not indulge in their base instincts tend to look far more human-like than the rest of the Apostles that barely pass as humans even in their "human" forms. Same goes for their monstrous forms, they look far more symmetrical, beautiful even in comparison to the mess that other apostles represent, often with genitalia shaped bodies and such.
From what I remember from the shitty Grunbeld book, the girl he sacrificed was already dying and she told him to do it. Grunbeld is still a total cunt though and I too wish I could have seen his stupid crystal dragon head chopped off.

The egg of the perfect world is great world building because it breaks the rules but in a way that makes perfect sense. Kinda like special men abilities in Hunter Hunter. Certain circumstances will allow bending of the system to those circumstances.
I’m sorry but hunter x hunter’s power system nen *is* really good. But I don’t think it’s this triple S tier power system everyone makes it out to be. To me it’s like an A+ tier to an S tier and I am *so* glad I’m not the only one who noticed the bending or breaking of rules for nen
@@marlom7882 All of the bending that happens in Nen are logical/consistent with the fundamentals or am I missing something? especially with where the manga is at now does Nen only get more expansive and so far it has managed to still stay consistent (besides that not everyone in hunter x hunter world knows the intracacies of Nen as certain top users do which leaves it an engaging mystery).
Maybe we don't know, how Miura wanted to end Berserk (and I hope he left some notes for his assistants), but even now we can see it as complete, wonderful story about human nature and existence - desires and ambitions, horrors and traumas, struggling and hope.
The dimension that the Godhand reside in appears to change or be unique for every Apostle ceremony. I don't think it is always an M.C. Escher staircase world. It was different for the Count, different for Griffith, and different for Void. The astral plane appears to be a place of chaos that is constantly shifting it's appearance to suit the occasion.

I have a theory about this one. When Wyald dies and you see he was a frail old man. Incredible video. At the end of it all, Guts may be known as the struggler and face unparalleled challenges, but exactly because he keeps struggling through and strives for better, he is able to see the sun rise in his world of shadows again.

Miura was most certainly exposed to this literature, as the resemblance of the godhand to the chaos powers and the champions to apostles is unmistakable, and their plotted paths nearly identical. I'd go so far as to say that he improved upon the Chaos mythos and the concept of mutated champions who are enslaved to these powers, as he takes it a step further from the ascent to daemonhood.
It goes even further back then that frankly, from ADnD and before that you could argue that the grimmer Swords and Sorcery subgenre of literature and comics was filled with these sorts of horrors. Before that you have Eldritch horror, of which Howard took extensive ques from Lord Dunsany and his "Gods of Pagana" series. Grim fantasy, how I love thee.
Was he exposed to the work you are referring to though? I can't imagine it would have been easy to get your hands on some book by a small company (at that time atleast). Was Miura into tabletop gaming? I wonder how Miura got all the ideas he had. I'd love to see a high production value documentary on Kentaro Miura 's life, perhaps at some point, Berserk is too good to not have a documentary about the life of the man who imagined all these things. Realm of chaos by games workshop lifted heavily from Michael Moorcock's Elric series, as well as his other stories featuring eternal champions, gods of chaos, forces of ultimate doom filled with chaos cultists, warrior champions of death who serve the ruinous powers, and demonic entities from beyond the edge of time. Most of warhammer and it's lore is directly lifted from the Elric saga, even Warhammer Fantasy's high elves and dark elves, with their long history of conflict with the forces of chaos, and steady decline into irrelevancy as the world of man evolves around them, is an almost identical copy of the Melniboneans. I'm also pretty sure it was Moorcock who first drew up and popularized the symbol of chaos used in warhammer. I really doubt Miura had seen anything by GW. Its not unlikely, but it would be easier to assume he had seen Hellraiser, or any of HP Lovecraft's works. He might have seen the Elric saga, which could have been an inspiration for Gut's berserker armor, as Elric bears the black sword stormbringer which feeds off his hatred and battle frenzy, as well as taking the life of those closest to Elric during that frenzy. The berserker armor removes all senses of fear, pain, and solely focuses on hatred and battle frenzy. Its said countless times that Guts can theoretically go too far both physically and mentally, losing himself to the rage and becoming a savage slaughterer until his body eventually gives way. I haven't seen anything truly like the apostles in other works. They all have interesting takes on dark entities, but none so tragic and equally horrific as the apostles.

It had a wide circulation, and any place that sold comics and games was likely to have copies. But its always been a Japanese tradition to deeply DEEPLY mine western lore and fiction. This goes even into the realm of actual occultism. I believe he was exposed to it, as it was a highly sensational book at that time, but declaring this as an influence objectively depends on if Miura ever admits to it.
I've always wondered.. what would have happened to the Slug Count if he had chose to sacrifice his daughter. Would he be even more powerful than his first form? Would he be totally different? What happens when you are a double apostle? Is it cumulative?

So I suppose he still could have used that. But what would have happened to the Count? Does he get even more power than he had before? Since he technically gave up more of his humanity, and gave another sacrifice. I mean, it seemed that for Griffith, the amount of sacrifice juju definitely had something to do with his becoming a God Hand. It seems all the God Hand had to sacrifice a ton of people, not just one to gain their immense power.

Good video although I wouldn’t say the Godhand have no emotion as what made them suitable to become a Godhand is their drive from their character and more. Slan obviously is a representation of lust. Ubik is envy and greed. Griffith is wrath and pride. Void and Conrad are debatable on what they represent but they exhibit those emotions as their strong suit in being capable of holding their position as Godhand. Casca wasn’t broken from the brand but being raped by a Godhand and having its essence along with the trauma of her fallen comrades being mutilated and her lover watching her rape from her leader who she admired broke her mental state and parts of her soul regressing her into a childlike mind with only instinct as her drive to go on living. Guts as the Struggler always was a madman and learned to be that way from his upbringing as well as all the traumas he faced. What saved his humanity was his love for Casca and along his journey having companions reminding him of the importance of being human. The brand attracts those spirits that want life and they don’t necessarily have to be evil but the evil spirits tend to have the desire to take the bodies of a sacrifice to possess and become alive again. The Beast of Darkness is from all Guts’ slaying of evil spirits and Apostles as well as his bottling up of negative emotions. It’s complicated in its manifestation but that’s the simplest breakdown for BoD
great analysis this is one of the few videos that acknowledges that apostles are still human and many of them experience regret like the count and rosine and griffith but whats done is done. ironically apostles are the weakest humans because they are trapped by a prison of their own desire which comes from an inferiority complex . take griffith for example he always hated nobility because he wanted to be one and couldnt he valued poeples worth and his own sense of self worth with social status and position and drive. as oppose to guts who is more comfortable with own self and doesnt need to compenstae.the bigger the desire and love for something like your ego for example the bigger the fall when you lose that the more you willing to do evil things to get what you want.a crucial point you make about how struggles are what allow people to grow and evolve if griffith is the epitome of weakness than guts is the epitome of human strength
Beautiful narration. Thank you for being an oasis in a sea of re-hashed commentary on Berserk. I do have hopes for the people taking over after the passing of Miura - we have now endured the unendurable of losing the man who gave us this masterpiece. But there is still so much to explore as the story is completed, and we perhaps get an expansion of the universe itself. I always felt that the deeply atmospheric dark fantasy canvas on which Berserk is painted, held the potential for many forms of storytelling. If only the writers can find a good balance in creating characters with piercing emotional depth.
"Causality... Berserk's version of fate" Ehhhhh nah, that's a big distinction. Which is the point, what with the struggler and all. Fate is inevitable certainty. Causality just means certain things will happen a certain way, generally. Fate cannot be changed. Causality can, however, be tweaked. It's the way of things resulting how things happen (causality) vs how things WILL NO MATTER WHAT happen (fate). Anyway, great video! Thanks for taking the time.

And your channel overall needs more attention. 🥰 It's so satisfying to see after all the vile, evil, unimaginable horrors and deeds Apostles ruthlessly commit (and as you explained, what they all did to become an Apostle to begin with...), that they have the utter *gaul*, the sheer *audacity* even, to beg and fear for their own miserable lives and it's their time to pay the piper. Just imagine how many of their victims and the ones sacrificed did the same but had their pleas fall on dead, inhuman ears.

Do we know what would happen if someone still human refuses to sacrifice his loved one? Does he goes into the swirl of souls in the abyss? The count did because he was already an apostle but a human... what would happen?
We dont have direct example of situation like this in manga but i guess nothing would happens in that case For example if Griffith would managed to refuse to do sacrifice i believe he would just return to his regular situation which mean to be crippled and mute person with his dream destroyed which was unbearable for him basically to activate behelit you need to get into really bad situation and refusing to grant sacrifice for human means to return to that situation
whatever your definition of deconstruction is, that is not what deconstructing mean nor is she making that point. she is portraying the realistic horrible reality of selling your soul of to the five devils of the godhand and how gaining great demi-godlike power doesn't fix anything nor can it make you anymore superior to what you once were before sacrificing your soul and anyone deeply close to you in heart, mind and soul.

Miura definitly left behind the way he wanted to finish berserk. He was a very detail oriented person, just look at the level each panel is at!

great analysis this is one of the few videos that acknowledges that apostles are still human and many of them experience regret like the count and rosine and griffith but whats done is done. ironically apostles are the weakest humans because they are trapped by a prison of their own desire which comes from an inferiority complex . take griffith for example he always hated nobility because he wanted to be one and couldnt he valued poeples worth and his own sense of self worth with social status and position and drive. as oppose to guts who is more comfortable with own self and doesnt need to compenstae.the bigger the desire and love for something like your ego for example the bigger the fall when you lose that the more you willing to do evil things to get what you want.a crucial point you make about how struggles are what allow people to grow and evolve if griffith is the epitome of weakness than guts is the epitome of human strength
Beautiful narration. Thank you for being an oasis in a sea of re-hashed commentary on Berserk. I do have hopes for the people taking over after the passing of Miura - we have now endured the unendurable of losing the man who gave us this masterpiece. But there is still so much to explore as the story is completed, and we perhaps get an expansion of the universe itself. I always felt that the deeply atmospheric dark fantasy canvas on which Berserk is painted, held the potential for many forms of storytelling. If only the writers can find a good balance in creating characters with piercing emotional depth.

Ehhhhh nah, that's a big distinction. Which is the point, what with the struggler and all. Fate is inevitable certainty. Causality just means certain things will happen a certain way, generally.
Fate cannot be changed. Causality can, however, be tweaked. It's the way of things resulting how things happen (causality) vs how things WILL NO MATTER WHAT happen (fate).

It's so satisfying to see after all the vile, evil, unimaginable horrors and deeds Apostles ruthlessly commit (and as you explained, what they all did to become an Apostle to begin with...), that they have the utter *gaul*, the sheer *audacity* even, to beg and fear for their own miserable lives and it's their time to pay the piper. Just imagine how many of their victims and the ones sacrificed did the same but had their pleas fall on dead, inhuman ears.

Do we know what would happen if someone still human refuses to sacrifice his loved one? Does he goes into the swirl of souls in the abyss? The count did because he was already an apostle but a human... what would happen?
We dont have direct example of situation like this in manga
but i guess nothing would happens in that case
For example if Griffith would managed to refuse to do sacrifice
i believe he would just return to his regular situation
which mean to be crippled and mute person with his dream destroyed
which was unbearable for him
basically to activate behelit you need to get into really bad situation
and refusing to grant sacrifice for human means to return to that situation
