I am upset that you claim to be a professional hairstylist trying to sell people your monat products, when in fact you should know better!! And I'm angry. I'm angry that I have seen a lot of people selling Monat lately, and I've encountered it at work, with very bad results. Results that mean I have clients coming back in to get their colour redone because it won't stay in their hair. And there is NOTHING I CAN DO.
There are up to FOURTEEN oils in Monat products. 14. Most of these are too heavy for the hair to absorb, so they sit on top of the hair, coating it in the same way Head & Shoulders or Pantene would coat the hair. It makes it very hard for us hairstylists to colour or lighten the hair, because we now have to somehow strip those oils off the hair. Meanwhile, the hair is getting so heavy that it will fall out. Remember Wen? People are suing Wen because their hair is falling out. Same thing with Monat. There are pages and pages of complaints with the Better Business Bureau about Monat. Please don't waste your money on something that could potentially ruin your hair. I don't care how soft and shiny it makes your hair. It is not a miracle product. It is a bunch of oils coating your hair and hiding the dryness and the damage. I don't care what your home-based rep tells you. I can't guarantee your colour will turn out, I can't guarantee anything once you use this garbage.
If you want to spend 2-300 dollars on products, come see me and I'll recommend some really awesome, ethically sourced, naturally derived, plant based products. You'll get twice as many for your money, and you'll have peace of mind knowing that licensed hairstylists back these products, instead of your friend/coworker/random stranger who decided they'd like to get a piece of that pyramid scheme.

If not then come out with your opinion. Your weak ethics and lack of loyalty is not someone I would trust to do business with nor my hair.

Heartly Chase you mention law suits, pages and pages of complaints? This is how mass hysteria starts someone screams the sky is falling and everyone runs. First off do you know how many products you currently endorse that have lawsuits pending? Do you know how many complaints never see the "pages and pages" you mention? And of all the lawsuits how many were substantiated? And of those awarded what was the reason? Mislabeling, mishandling are common product suits that are won. Common in many products you currently use. Not the fault of the product. Oh well I should probably find a cave to live in considering ( insert heavy sigh and eye roll)

Step one: Wash hair throughly with Dawn scalp to ends. Leave in then rinse. Step two: Put in lemon juice starting at the scalp to ends don't touch hair too much once it's in. Leave in about a minute. Rinse.
Step three: Use hair mask or deep conditioner or regular conditioner. Leave in hair about 5 mins.

I used Elle's treatment above. Dawn dish detergent and lemon juice followed by a moisturizing conditioner. I followed her directions and my hair feels like I have used very expensive products. Her timing is important on how long you leave in your hair. In one of the comments it writes out the directions or you can take the time and listen to her directions carefully.

I just had to comment that I followed the directions exactly this morning and this works amazingly well! Dawn is less than $3 for a big bottle, and you only need a bit. After I put the lemon juice in, I thought it would feel awful and dry, but it immediately felt like silk. Then I followed with a deep conditioner from a hair color kit.
My hair is very thick, color treated, and very wavy, so I usually have to add lots of products to tame it. After this, I only added argan oil to the ends and blew it dry. It even seemed like it took less time to dry and it looks beautiful and silky. Thank you!

So I have been in a weird hair faze lately. I went from ombré blonde to red recently and decided just recently to go back to full blonde. Biggest mistake ever to do it on my own for the first time, but definitely a lesson learned! The blonde came out super yellow and burned my hair sooo bad! I had super damaged and dry hair. I was to the point where I wanted to cry! I ruined my hair! I ended up putting a toner in and hated it even more. The color wasn’t what I wanted. I’m very impatient and wanted to fix it ASAP but couldn’t find any videos on CZcams to tell me how, until I came across this video! Oh My God! Since my amazing French hairdresser retired who I was with for 10 years I’ve had a hard time getting an appointment with highly reputable hairdressers in the south Florida area so I gave up and started doing my own cut and color. All was well until I decided to tone. My hairdresser always told me that ash was not good for my skin tone and OMG! He was so right.I followed this video, but decide to add conditioner to the lemon and I also kelp it away from my scalp because it can irritate the scalp. I left it on for a couple hours spaying water periodically to keep it activated and voila! My hair is back to a level 9 buttery blonde. I’m so grateful!!! Thank you so much for all you do to help us diy’ers get excellent results. 💖

(I'm tired of the red - it's about a 6RV right now). I was going to do a bleach wash but thought about trying this first to get rid of some of the pigment so that there's less to bleach? I watched your colour and toning videos and learned a lot (all of it came out great) when I was blonde. I know I'm going to have orange hair when I remove the red.. just hoping to find a way for it to be less orange lol. My plan right now is to either do a colour remover or bleach wash then do a demi dark ashy blonde to try to counter act the orange...

If I could give this video a million thumbs up, I would!! I had done a high lift color on my hair and then toned after to neutralize my roots to match the rest of my hair and somehow all of my hair ended up a streaky lavender/violet. After frantically googling how to get rid of the lavender, I stumbled upon this video. IT WORKED AMAZINGLY!!! I color and tone my hair a lot and often over-tone, but this time it was just too much and hadn’t toned my roots at all. Chelating my hair removed ALL of the over-tone and left it silvery white and soft. (I still need to correct my orange roots with blue shampoo, but I’ll take what I can get.)
Although it didn’t leave my hair as soft and frizz-free as I’d like, I was amazed at how well it corrected the color/over-tone. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I just did this and LOVED it. I live in Mexico so I just used regular dish soap (diluted with a little water) and lime juice (lemons are hard to find) but it worked great. My hair feels even better than when I do a clarifying shampoo then olaplex #3 then a moisturizing mask, and I only used a little bit of a purple deep conditioner afterwards. I think this is going to save me so much of my olaplex which I love but it's super expensive and hard to find where I live (I'm super blonde now, not like on my picture) so thanks for the tip :D

I do my hair fashion colors and do this before a retouch since the dish soap, the vitamin C in the lemons and the deep conditioning fade the colors quite a bit.

    • @evilcrumbs

so before a retouch, you would chelate but skip the conditioner? because conditoiner blocks the fashion color from penetrating the hair strand so i dont see why u would condition just before u wud do a color

So before I went out and bought dawn, I did a little research on chelation. I looked at dawn's ingredients and while I see sodium lauryl sulfate, which is great if you want to clarify your hair (it will also strip all natural oils which is kind of a necessary evil if you want to strip all residue from your hair), it does not contain any cheating agents that will bind to minerals from hard water or swimming. If you truly want to chelate your hair, the most common chelating agents in cosmetics are disodium edta, tetrasodium edta, and trisodium citrate. While trisodium citrate and citric acid (found in lemon juice) are related, sodium citrate is the salt of citric acid and so it has different chemical properties. If you want to chelate your hair I would recommend a chelating shampoo such as pureology purify or a cheaper one that has good reviews. Please correct me if I messed up my research.
I do appreciate you taking the time to do this video since I didn't even realize the reason my hair is so dull is from my hard water, thanks:)

  • @Lapreghiera
    @Lapreghiera Před 8 lety +32

Chelating is actually about removing hard water minerals that build up on our hair. Clarifying removes product build up. The difference is in the results - your hair will generally feel softer after chelating while clarifying tend to dry out your hair.

The way I chelate is to put about 10 drops of essential oil in my shampoo (I usually use teatree) and let the shampoo sit for a couple of minutes. Then when I condition I put about 10 drops of lavender essential oil in the conditioner. It totally removes buildup and won't damage the hair at all.

you can also use backing soda on your shampoo after shampoo once, the second time add one spoon of baking soda to the palm of your hand with shampoo and that does the same and more. Once you rinse well do use a good deep conffditioner. After rinsing your conditioner out, mix equal part of apple cider vinegar and water and pour it all over the hair. Many will leave for a few minutes then rinse, but for many years I havent, and my hair began to grow like never before, easy to manage, lovely. I have pass this on to many people, family and friends and I have herd only good feed back....Also, another remedy I have bn using is I add onion and garlic to my shampoo, and let it sit in front of a window for 14 NIGHTS only, right after I began to use it 3xs a week, proceed with the backing soda once or twice a month and the apple cider vinegar always after conditioning. Good luck

I've heard of using an apple cider vinegar rinse after using a clarifying shampoo; I'm assuming to get this same result. Would it be ok to substitute apple cider vinegar for the lemon? Also I use Neutrogena clarifying shampoo every now and then to remove build up. Which do you feel gives better results Dawn or Neutrogena clarifying shampoo?

I know I'm a little late to the party, but when you apply the conditioner, do you apply it root to tip? Or just to the tips? Sorry if you mentioned it and I just missed it.

i think maybe not the scalp because hair would get oily quick, but close to the scalp to the tip because otherwise the hair close to scalp will be very dry

In the 80's, we all used a ton of aquanet, to the point where it wouldn't wash out. A hairdresser recommended to make a paste in the palm of the hand of baking soda and Dawn dishsoap to remove the buildup. It really works and leaves the hair baby soft.

Is this better than just using a clarifying shampoo like Redken's Hair Cleansing Cream Shampoo? Thanks for the tip!

Thank you so much 🤗This rescued my bleached hair. Now my deep Conditioner really does what it says on Package- my hair feels great and looks so amazing. Oh and it helps to fade the blue and green from Directions that stained my hair. Greetings from Germany

Just done this today, you can literally feel your hair drinking in the moisture from the conditioner. It was lovely to have the scent of lemons in the shower too.. Just waiting for it to dry so I can see the full results!

I triple love it! Because my hair is long and bleached I have to use a lot of heavy conditioners to get the moisture in, even after all the coconut oil my hair feels full of life. Super nourished but with lots of movement too. How do I share?

I just did this. I didn’t let the dawn soap sit for very long, I didn’t know I was supposed to. For people with dense hair, I suggest a whole lemon and maybe try squeezing it in a cup first and then bringing it to the shower to pour on. Lots of lemon seeds in my drain but my hair looks and feels fantastic!
