Whenever i feel discouraged about learning chinese, i watch this video. I have this song on my phone and im very close to having it memorized. Its helped a lot with learning the tones and how they flow together.
Such an amazing explanation!! Thanks for using both traditional and simplified Chinese.
This is a great way to learn new language through a song and he also explain those words with another sentence structure, thank you so much and keep up your good work. I have been looking for this kind of content and eventually I got you now.
Sorry to interrupt. I don’t know how to promote my videos to those who want to learn Chinese.
I’ve spent about 100,000 hours studying English humor and Western culture, and many years studying Chinese culture and jokes. My native language is Chinese. I teach Chinese in humorous way and with cute pictures.
Hope somebody recommend my videos to those who learn Chinese.
Peng You was quite a hit in the Philippines way back 2006-2007 when Kim Chiu(Filipino chinese) sang this in Pinoy Big Brother( a Pinoy reality show). It also has a tagalog version.
Best method to learn and remember Andy. You should do this more often 😊
Thank you. I will :)
I just want to say I saw this video a few months ago and now it's one of my favorite songs. Remembering the words so closely has helped me remember them in speech.
I decided to look more in Wakin Chau, and I discovered his song Direction of the Heart (心的方向) from 1986 and it is my new song anthem lol.
My husband told me I should tell you how much I appreciate you for making this video and introducing people to Pengyou!
If you ever make another video like this, I'd love to see Direction of the Heart. From a Chinese learning perspective, it also has many useful words about directions.
This is great. I always hear this song and only get a gist of the meaning. You've systematically explained every verse and that is very helpful. Thanks!
this is awesome! would love to see more of this content, singing is such a fun way to practice pronouciation i find
Loved your way of teaching and enjoyed the song. Looking forward to more of your videos. Thank you.
Still love this song after all these years. First heard this song when Kim Chiu (filipino-chinese actress) sang it in a reality tv show (2005-2006) here in the Philippines 🇵🇭. This song has a tagalog version. during that time, you can hear this song on the radio all over the country. it was really popular back then. I still memorize this song.
Then in the recent years, Ikon performed this song in a chinese show. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I just love this song so much.

Lovely song and great lesson. Wasn't even trying to learn Chinese, but still watched.
Sincere thanks for teaching song with its meaning and for your hardwork. 🙏🙏🙏
I fell in love with this song back 2007 when I studied in China; I never looked at the lyrics because I could sing along just by listening, but I always thought they said 一被子 instead of 一辈子😅😅😅; but a blanket can make sense too 😂 😂 🤭
I love the way you sing with confidence . I am like echoing behind you Bec the words don't appear first so I am like a chorus but you are so fast...lol
Love it ! 🙏❤️🌻🌹
Brilliant choice of song & format

With pleasure, my friend! Good to see your comment.
Thanks Andy. Am inspired to learn Chinese thru your posting.
One thing I want to applaud you for is the clarity of the audio at half speed. Most CZcams clips at half speed have too much background noise and are almost impossible to understand but yours is very clear. How do you do that?

Thank You very much, you are amazing explanation. 💞💞💞💞💞
wow , good class, you got my subscription. Keep making more. Xiexie.
@Andy, your videos are INCREDIBLY useful. Thank you so much for these!
1. at 5:12, can you explain the difference between 心中 and 中心? Both seem to mean the same thing (heart/center).
2. at 7:20, wouldn't 一句话 means something like 'a spoken sentence'?
3. at 7:25, 辈子 is lifetime, but at 7:28 一生 also means lifetime. What are the (subtle?) differences between these two words?
4. Several times during this song, words consisting of two 汉字 are 'shortened' to one of the two. For instance, 疼痛 being shortened to 痛 and 友情 being shortened to 情. What is the rule for allowing that? Here it both times was the first 汉字 which was left out. Can it sometimes also be the second 汉字?
1. 心中 means in the heart and 中心 usually just means center
2. I would say 一句话 means like one word or one sentence or just as much words as you can say in one breath approximately
3. 一辈子 is more like eternity or a promise and 一生 refers to like a memory for example
4. In chinese the first character usually describes the second closer so its usually shortened to the second to capture the meaning unless the second is an suffix like 儿 then it would be shortened to the first
4. Rhythm reason.
Sometimes, the order of a sentence can also change to fit the rhythm and rhyme.
You can leave out some words for condensation or rhythming purposes, but you do have to be aware if it changes the meaning/makes it more broad/ makes sense.
疼痛= pain (more often used to describe a physical pain)
痛= pain (general, any pain)
心痛= pain of the heart; heartache
友情= friendship
情= relationship (any)
亲情= family relationship
爱情= love (romance)
chinese is flexible and relying on context, you can actually leave out a lot of words. This is done most often in poems to allow everything to 'fit'
After listening to this song, my desire to learn Chinese has gone multiple times.
I want more from this type
