- Finally a new episode! This time we dived into a bass comparison. An almost original 1978 Fender Precision Bass vs recent Fender Squier Classic Vibe 70s Precision Bass. Which bass plays better?

Both basses were played through a Salvation Audio Ampig tube preamp loaded in a Randall RM100 amp, the output of the amp goes into a Two Notes Torpedo loadbox and then into the computer where an OwnHammer IR impulse of an Ampeg cab is applied. There's a mild compression going on later in post but the settings for both basses remain the same.

Both are great Basses. It just speaks of the decent kind of instruments you can get now.
That's definitely a p-bass neck width on the CV, the thinness you're feeling is the neck carve. Thank you for this comparison, keep up the good work!
The Geezer Butler pickups are incredible. I've got a pair of PJs in an Aria Pro II
Changed bridge, changed pickup, brass nut, refin. This is really not a comparison to a stock bass at all.
The bridge is stock and the refin doesn't really affect the sound ;) I think this particural bass represents the overall sound and feel of mid to late 70s precisions well.
@@junkyardgear2738 it's not a stanndard pickup
Brass nut and non original pickup are enough to negate any legitimate comparison.
@@toddbrown8089 feel free to ignore it then :)) Even if the bass was 100% stock, it still would be a lot different from every other similar age Fender bass. We've had enough 70s instruments in our hands to say at least this. Objectivity is a nice thing but there are fields where you can never really achieve it. We don't claim this comparison is scientific. It's just two dudes talking their impression. If you find us credible or not, that's really up to you.
To me the point is that the real 70s pbasses are usually way heavier, have different necks, different feel and sort of a deeper sound. Cheers. Hugo
Why would anyone want to replicate one Fenders worst era's(70's) for instuments go 60's if you want definitive P Bass sound.👍♥️🎸👍
Fortunately, we've had enough 70s Fenders in our hands that were really great instruments, so that we can just smile :))
@@junkyardgear2738 well you've gone 60's already with the EMG GEEZER BUTLER pickup, because it's based on Geezers 60's p bass sound from early Sabbath days. 😂
