Thank you. I am a veteran with diagnosed PTSD and I attended a horticulture course as part of wellbeing therapy to address and manage my symptoms. It was a great success for me. Your videos take it to the next level. Great knowledge, simply delivered. Well done and thank you. There's healing in the garden.
Thanks David. I am glad you found something to focus on. And its the reason why I am building a well being garden here too.
@@simplifygardening Good man Tony. I wish you well with that and look forward to videos in future.
Thanks for your wonderful videos, they are so helpful and gentle voice🙂👍🍃🍅 and for your comment David, I too was diagnosed PTSD and I'm a beginner gardener but my mind is soo rested when I'm tending the garden and find it has a beautiful holistic effect right through the day and night ( I now dream about my Garden 🌹 instead of nightmares) sending big love to all from Bonnie Scotland 🏴 🇬🇧💞
This is a good video Tony! I like the way you put it together - this type of format is easy to watch and understand. Cheers :)
Cheers Mark. Hopefully folks are enjoying the content :)
Tony love your videos. Please don't take down your older videos when starting your new channel, please they are valuable. Thanks for your sharing skills and tips of what you've done.
Great advice. It's taken me around 46 years to learn most of these tips by trial and error...Amazing channel for gardeners young and old.
Just came across this video after watching your potato in buckets vids. I've been growing tomatoes for years now and this is an excellent video for anyone starting to grow them and wanting to get the best harvest. I do pretty much all of these and it really makes a difference. I'm doing 38 different varieties this year, most of which I've never grown before but for me that's the best part of growing heirloom tomatoes, you have so much choice and can create a really beautiful selection of tomatoes.
Tony , love your videos , had allotments for 40 years , had some success and some failures but the beauty about gardening is you learn all your life . And I must say I have learned more since I discovered your site than I ever learned from all the “old timers”. Thanks again Tony from a Northumberland grower .
Wow thank you George. I really appreciate that
I never really appreciated tomatoes until I started growing my own. Delicious. Have taken your tips on board.
Hi Pat. Yes until you eat homegrown tomatoes off the vine you dont realise what you are missing out on
once you've eaten selfgrown tomatos, the storebought ones taste a lot more like water lol
great tips thanks Tony. Your tomato plants look like real cordons/ columns, with the fruits going close to the main stem. Even when I grow "cordon" varieties, I get something very bushy with the fruits all way out. I think if I had narrow columns I'd get more plants in. Could you make a video on pruning for tidy tomato plants? Thanks
Great video. I'm growing five different tomatoes this year, moneymaker, Chico beefsteak, and two cherry, sweet baby and one I saved from tomatoes from a shop
That is great Marie. Fantastic varieties too
Hey "Fire Bobby" you're the best educator for us tender growers! Thanks a mil.
Love the finishing touch gorgeous taste x
mmmwwaaaahhhhx
Wow thank you 🙏
Thanks for your tips of growing tomatoes.
Love your videos. I just started checking them out this spring and have found them to be very helpful. I am growing a few plants of small tomato called "sweet orange" here in Canada I get them from one of our local farmers market venders. I've been getting them from her for three years now, I don't even bother with the red varieties anymore because the sweet orange are amazing. Thanks for all the wonderful tips I have been able to used.
Tony, your videos are phenomenal. There's things here I never would have thought of. Thank you very much for the information.
Wow, thank you very much Roger. I a, glad that my content is helping you so much. I really appreciate this comment. thanks :)

Thank you Tony. What a wonderful video. I am glad it's not the END after all.
So am i Sheila. Plenty more videos on the way
Brilliant video Tony
Thanks David
thanks for the tops. Very helpful
Your welcome glad they were of interest👍
I use the bamboo sticks as well but I use cut strips of old cotton t-shirts to tie them to the sticks. The cotton doesn't damage the stalks of the plant. I live in a windy area and hard ties wear bad places on the stalks.
Wow I am so glad I found this vid..Thank you ,great advice
You are so welcome Juliette
Very helpful Tony. Should have seen it before I started planting. 😊
Glad it was helpful!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH, Tony, for sharing this fabulous advice/information! I have planted herbs and vegetables previously and got a good yield but I needed to learn/apply more advice to harvest a much better fruit over a longer period without the challenge of insect attacks and rusty leaves on some of the plants. I am very grateful that I came across this video. Needless to mention, I have subscribed as you're an outstanding teacher. Thanks once again & God bless.
Glad it was helpful Welcome to the channel appreciate the support :)
Thank you so much for these 12 tips. We are nearly ready to plant out tomatoes here in Auckland, nz. Newly subscribed, love your videos.

Hi Tony, love watching your channel as I learn so much, this year I'm growing yellow delight x red cherry x marmande x Italian oxheart x money maker and a new one which I got from last years gardeners world live red currant tomatoes as I've only grown the red cherry out of these before I'm really looking forward to seeing the results.

Great tips Tony and my son Clarke say great job!👍
Thanks guys to the both of you :) glad it was of interest
Oxhearts, and Black Plum. Sometimes I try new varieties, but those two are the best for me.
Oh I will have to source some oxhearts seed and give them a go
You've given some good tips there, Tony. Many thanks.
When you mentioned the fan heater to blow over the plants, I have used this for many years now, as a means of preventing blight and mildew. I use a timer and move the air throughout the night about 15 mins. every hour or so. I haven't lost a plant for the last 10 years. Good luck for the season!
I should think it will help with pollination as well.
Airflow is of paramount importance
yup
Thank you 💚
No problem 😊
By the way. I love your videos. I'm growing potatoes for the first time and I am following your guidelines. Thank you!

Thanks for the video. I am growing Sungold, Charlie Chaplin, Roma and Thessolonika varieties. I am in Portugal, growing outdoors and really enjoy being able to harvest vine-ripened tomatoes.
Valerie, Vine ripened is so much better flavoured, and great varieties there too
Greetings from Canada
Last year sun gold, black cherry, Cherokee purple as well as the nursery standards here, better boy and early girl. Was the most popular girl at church, sharing the bounty crop.
THANKS for informative and professional videos that don't bore us to death before you get to the point.😄
glad you enjoyed it Michele. Sorry for the late reply. had some issues with comments not showing that they had not been answered, so I am getting through them

Thanks Sorry for the late reply. I have been unwell. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Great video. I'm growing Sungold Cherry tomatoes.
Liz Loops I’m growing weed
Beefsteak my all time favourites
Very useful video Tony, thanks very much. The only feedback/query I have is regarding your comments on suckers (side shoots) - you said that you must remove them and that they bear no fruit - I think that is incorrect; the need for removing them is dependent on whether or not they are indeterminate or determinate varieties. Also, they absolutely WILL produce fruit; if left alone, a sucker will grow into another ‘main stem’, which of course can become unmanageable and a burden on nutrients if you allow too many to grow. But they definitely do produce fruits - I always propergate my suckers (some, not all) in water and then plant into soil at different stages so that I have a continuous crop throughout the entirety of the season to as late as possible as suckers will grow into full plants themselves if propagated and planted.
Yes they will bare fruit. What I meant was that with short season its not viable to grow them out too and get ripened fruitSorry for the late reply
I am growing Heirloom Rainbow Blend Tomatoes that I planted from seed in the middle of last year. They managed to survive the winter season "so far". I really appreciate your tips as they will help me to better grow this strange variety of tomatoes as these videos are teaching me things that i need to know to grow healthy food in these crucial times.Thank you for taking the time to help others as its helping me!
Glad you found value in the video Zoe
I’m a little late to this vid, but great tips Tony! You really can’t beat the taste of home grown fruits and veggies. I’m sowing Sunbaby, Outdoor Girl, Bamano and Sunstream this year 🙌🏾
Great varieties too. Good luck with them
Doing 2 heirloom tomatos one called russian purple and another called yellow stuffer. You doing anything diffrent this year tony. Great video
Ive stuck to my usual varieties but also doing a golden sunshine as a new one for me
Very interesting I got a lot of tomato plants in my garden thanks for the tips.
Arlyn Santiago same except they have these weird buds growing on them and they smell strongly also there is no tomato’s idk what’s happening to my tomato plant
hi from Dublin Tony great tips thanks :). Trying Black russian, supersweet , Tumbling tom. Tigerella and Big Tom this year
Hey welcome from dublin,. All fantastic varieties You will enjoy black russian
You are really thorough in the way you explain everything. I enjoy watching your videos, then trying to put into practice what I've learned. Thank you :-)
I appreciate that! I am glad it comes across that way as I want to provide value in my content
@@simplifygardening well you do, and you do it very well indeed. Thank you! Great having a fellow Welsh person to take advice from :-)
Greetings Tony! Nice tomatoes you had there!!! (1:04 )!!!
Thanks Sanches, they were stripped bare to fully ripen on the vine
I’m growing Picus plum tomatoes, Plum Regal, and Sakura cherry tomatoes this year (2024). Here in the Toronto area we generally grow our Tomatoes outside, after starting them indoors.
This season started with moneymaker, then added a few rainbows, followed by some unknown Russian variety and ended by adding a few San marzano.
I grow San Marzanos for pasta sauce as well as Cherokee Purple for slicing in burgers and sandwiches. 🍅
How do they taste Rebekah
The San marzanos are a small paste tomato, similar to a Roma, but fleshier. They make a great Italian sauce with onion and basil. The Cherokee purple are large and great to slice for sandwiches as they have a deep almost smoky flavor. They’re both great producers too, giving me lots of harvest here in Louisville in the states.
Oh I think I will have to hunt down some of those seeds, having a great sauce tom is well worth it and that Cherokee Purple sounds stunning in a sandwich. thanks for getting back to me Rebekah
A great and timely video. My run of the mill toms this year, terenzo, gigantomo, sungold, sweet aperatiff, glacier, tumbling junior.
All great and trusted varieties JH
Growing old fashioned Grenadiers this year.. very tolerant
thats great Sorry for the late reply
Suckers do produce flowers and fruit Tony. I don't prune mine (indeterminate tomatoes). I let them grow as they want, just support the branches, but they all bare fruit. Pruning the suckers does make a prettier and cleaner plant than just letting them grow. :-)
Yes Paul, I find though that anything produced struggles and causes stress on plants unless they are bush varieties
great video tony easy simple to understand clear instruction new subscriber looking forward to your videos mate cheers
Thanks for the sub! welcome to the channel. Glad you found value in the video
@@simplifygardening no bother im enjoying all the videos so far and learning loads best gardening videos ive seen told others about you and your channel. keep up the great job your doing mate its excellent
Hey mate much love from AUSTRALIA I'm growing zoom megabite at the moment thanks for the tips good channel✌🏼

What a great video done realy well and easy to understand, thanks very much. i am a happy man.
Sorry for the late reply. I have been unwell. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Flip the top you cut off the 2L bottle and put it back in like a funnel and it will reduce evaporation from the bottle.
Thats a great tip Ellie hpwever The water drains into the soil quickly its not meant as a reservoir but if you did want it to be used like that then thats a top tip. thanks for adding it for the community to see
I tried this out on a couple of plants last year and works well...been saving all sorts of plastic bottles and jars this past winter so I can do more with this method.
Some good Tips! Looks like you are going to have loads of tomatoes The polytunnel is looking great!
Yeah still lots of work to do mate, be glad when I get it all out in the ground. Grow enough to provide us with sauces and stuff all year
Great tips Tony brilliant video ,moneymaker sun gold ,and a plum one but can’t think of name will look tomorrow lol 😆👍
Excellent Julie Good varieties
Hi Tony Thanks for the tips. I'm growing Golden plum, Gardeners Delight, Alice Craig, Super Sweet,
All great varieties John, I am growing most of those too
I find your videos among the best, just found good info on your tomato growing. I’m looking now to see if you have a video on cucumbers, I’m sure I could learn a lot. Also I’d love info on re using compost I usually add it to my compost bin, but would hope I might be able to grow something in it or at least add it to garden soil. Thanks a lot.
No video on cucumbers yet and on reuse of compost. but will look into sorting that.
By the way I've subbed to your channel thanks for helping us.
Welcome to the channel and thanks for the support and comment s:)
I'm growing Gardeners Delight,Sungold,Tigerella and San Marzano this year .
I love sungold so sweet
Awesome video Tony thank you so much, I’m growing Cherokee purple..
What are they like? Ive never grown them.
UK Here We Grow They are a beautiful American heirloom.. better tasting.. ☝️💪
UK Here We Grow It’s said they have been passed down from the American Indians..☝️
that would be way cool
Tony this it's a very concise growing guide and reassuring that I am already following some of these tips for example with the water bottles amusing 2L milk bottles in between each plant.
I have 34 plants in the ground outside, 2 hanging baskets with tumbling Toms, six plants in pots outside and five plants in the greenhouse. The varieties are Tumbling Tom red and yellow Santonio, Black Russian,Sungold Gardeners Delight, Red Cherry Ace55, and Cuor di Bue.🤞
A lot of the same varieties that Im growing. You certainly growing a lot of toms, plenty of sauce on the way :)
🏴 Awesome video with some awesome tips. Just growing "sweet million" myself. Particularly liked the pop bottle tip 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Best wishes
Steve
Thanks Steve glad you found some value from the video, will you be using the pop bottle this year
@@simplifygardening unfortunately no lol, I already got mine planted out for this year in either 20 or 25 litre pots and I find when j give them a good watering the water runs quite quickly out of the bottom of the pots and they will only stay moist for 2 days at most and I've got to water again on the 3rd day, so I'd rather wet the whole pot at mo 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
