  • In this video, we're gonna get in the mood for summer and paint some wild, blue flowers on an old, wood fence. This is a good lesson for beginners and up.
I’m painting on a 12x16-inch stretched canvas, but you can paint on any type and size of canvas you like.
    I used:
    • A 1-inch flat brush
    • A 1/2-inch angle brush
    • A small round brush
I’m using Liquitex Basics acrylic paint in the following colors:
    • Mars Black
    • Titanium White
    • Phthalocyanine Blue
    • Hooker's Green
    • Raw Umber
    • Alizarin Crimson
    • Cadmium Yellow Deep Hue
But you can use any colors you like.

Thank you Jane for this easy to follow tutorial. I had not painted or sketched in years. I came halfway across the country to take care of my terminally ill Mom. I had 5 awesome weeks with her. I made this painting for her on acrylic art paper, as that is what I had. Mom loved it! I hung it on the wall near the kitchen table and every time she looked at it, she would smile. Thank you Jane, for helping me make this memory with Mom. She passed away 3 days ago knowing that she inspired me to continue doing what I had so enjoyed many years ago.

I just started this one tonight! I love the way my wooden fence came out. So happy you taught me how to do that - a skill I can take to other paintings! I love painting grass - so that came pretty naturally to me (I added some Cad Yellow Med to highlight some of the blades). Tomorrow night, after work, come the flowers - one of my weaknesses. We'll see hot it goes.

I am using this tutorial for my first DIY painting at home after doing a couple paint nights. I was so excited to find great instruction online! Question for you. When doing my fence (first step), I can't seem to get the paint to cover the canvas very well. I still see spots of the white canvas and when I try to cover them it starts to blend the colors (instead of keeping it more streaked like yours). Any ideas what I need to change? Am I just not using enough paint? I am using the same paint brand you suggest. Thanks in advance!!

    • @PaintingwithJane
      @PaintingwithJane  Před 7 lety +1

Hi Jessica!! Sounds like your brush might be pretty soft. A soft brush is going to make it really hard to spread the paint very far. Look for a brush that's a little more stiff and has a nice flick to it. I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions ♥

hello Jane, I have always been trying to paint one form or another I saw your Summer flower on the fence painting so head out to buy new paints. The ones I had from many years in my garage were dried out. Thank you so much for inspiring me to pick up a brush again. You are a great teacher and great artist. so easy to follow.

I have never painted in my life and been searching CZcams for tutorials. I subscribed to many but I just love you and how you take the time to explain every detail and make it easy for a novice like me. I enjoyed painting this and the abstract poppies. I wish I could have you as my tutor.... :)

I thought I'd venture out of my comfort zone (abstract painting) and found your tutorial. That's a beautiful painting, and it was intriguing to see how you created each element, thank you for sharing your skills.

Thanks for letting us know Bob is on Netflix!! I always love watching him!! You're right up there also! Learning a lot from you. It was nice to watch your Vlog & learn that you also copied others paintings until you got more confident in your work. I was starting to get frustrated cause I can copy some of what you or Cinnamon Cooney put out there (not everything) but anytime I tried to put my ideas on a canvas it just doesn't turn out right. I have a lot of learning to do & am so thankful you guys take time to teach us!!
