No one care how to win the point just win as easy efficient as possible. I use just let the ball hit the face the racket. I just guide it direction where to go. Mostly aim it at doubles alley. Great coaching real deal Willy.

    Coach, nice video. My problem with volleying has to do with low dead balls and sometimes dead balls in general which my pusher friend loves to give me. If I do what you say, the ball doesn't make it over the net. I do try to move forward with my legs and the success is better but not close to 100%. My only solution is to swing or punch at these balls. What is your suggestion here? Thanks.

    Excellent information !Will is always one of my favorite coaches. Cool with no fancy talks and right into the points. BTW, how do we hit the forehand high volley aggressively when the ball is floating ?I mean real aggressively ! Does all the power come from the legs too ?

    • @ironwilltennis
      @ironwilltennis  Před rokem +1

      in the case of the floaters, it depends on 2 things. 1 is the height, and 2 is the actual target. the main driver is still the legs but there's a little trick to hitting the ball aggressively. I'll cover it in the next video just for you.

  • @Better_Call_Raul

    I plead guilty to swinging at volleys. *Ugh!, it is such a very tough habit to break!* ☹
    To be clear, I understand the idea. Keep it very compact (little to no backswing) and volley with the legs. I totally get it. Part of the problem, for me, is that there is often no time to step in and primarily use the legs for power. Some of that could be due to my reflexes and footwork being too slow, but that is another issue.
    But there are definitely often situations when there is simply no time to step in with legs, and "Volley with your legs". So what tends to happen when I properly keep the hands out in front, and I cant really employ the legs, is that the volley has no zip on it (no legs for power) -- so unless it is placed perfectly, opponent has no trouble my relatively weak volley. Sort of similar to the volley at 05:30 but much weaker than that. I want more zip, like the volley at 04:59. Wow!
    To my eye, the key to that crushing 4:59 power volley is that the racquet strings can be allowed to be laid back quite a bit while taking care that the *HAND* remains essentially out in front. The key is not to take the hand back... That approach sounds attractive. Will experiment with that.
    As far as "volleying with the legs" I am making a bit of progress and find that it works especially well very well on slow floaters. I keep the swing very compact and I *step* into it. I load my back leg and try to make contact while my legs are in the air and the weight is being transferred to the front leg. I find that it is key to be in the air at contact. Along with having a very loose grip on the floaters.

    I like your point about intention. I know S&V is rare in singles and becoming less common in the Doubles, but I have a hard time knowing if I hit the correct shot. Say I hit my first volley into the open court and close, if he hits a lob winner, it could have been a) he was too good b) I hit a poor volley c) I hit the wrong target d) my positioning/reactions were too bad. If you have a chance to look over some matches or points from your students or youtube matches, it'd be great to hear your thoughts on their decision making.
