This song was originally written by the band's drummer, (Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan, RIP), after he took a hiatus from society and lived in a cabin in the woods for a few months alone. He was given time to just brainstorm as much as he wanted and about whatever he wanted. This was the brain child of that experience.

My opinion: They were both too damaged to be together, but after they’ve done the worst to each other, they can no longer hurt each other. The orchestra, the lyrics by Jimmy, the maniacal laughter by Jimmy and Matt, the piano at the beginning (basically what Jimmy came up with and used for the song's theme). It's just one of the best modern musical piece. It has everything and most of it came from Jimmy's mind.

I'm 23yo girl and I first heard this at 12 years old. It turned me on to rock and metal and even though I grew out of this kind of "softer" kind of metal I still love it and still know the lyrics after all these years.
I'm a heavier music enjoy myself, but this is a far superior peice of art than almost any really heavy music, alot more talent required to make a piece like this.

This song all started with the Rev. He had another band that did songs more in this lane. So, they told him to write a song as if for the other band. He didn't take it serious but then it just became this whole thing and they felt they had to put it on the album. Really, it's beautiful.
7:10 "That singing though is cool, I like that." Haha I know right! The lyrics are incredibly messed up and the video is (intentionallly) over-the-top cartoonishly ridiculous and made for shock value but when those melodies come in the song starts to morph into something entirely different for a few moments. I'd even call that beautiful. That's the power of music! You can literally sing about necrophilia and all sorts of messed up shit but if the song is crafted well, it can still resonate with people. Another example of this is "John Wayne Gacy, Jr." by Sufjan Stevens. A song about a literal serial killer with some super creepy lyrics, but so well-written and beautiful at the same time.

For context this song was written by the rev sullivan (the greatest drummer ever) this was an idea that he got wile extremely drunk out of his mind and wrote part of in the studio with the rest of the band but the singer went along with it until it finally turned into this amazing song.

From what I remember from the making of the album documentary, it was just a song they started with a silly idea that they were having fun with that just grew. Like they were just having fun with the lyrics and shouting weird shit in the vocal booth and smashing bottles and stuff.

Due to the fact that I was always preoccupied and usually using loud machinery, I never really paid attention to the lyrics, but I really liked the music.
