He played more as a left 8 who dropped to a left sided 6 rather than a inverted fullback. It was usually Heaven, Henry Francis and Lewis Skelly who covered the defensive responsibilities on his side. Even in few instances he dropped further back he didn't go in making tackles or trying to win 50/50 defensive duels. He rarely turned on his hip or knee, and he jogged around for the most part. He also was clearly tired after around 35' I'd say.
I'm saying these, to let you know this was his first on-the-pitch step in a long hard way back into one of the best teams in Europe. It had glimpses of his undeniable top quality as well as some expected physical and mental hurdles that he'll have to pass before getting back to his best, and hopefully grow past it to reach his potential.
I think Arsenal are doing their best in the interest of Timber's longterm future here, rather than pushing him prematurely for the run in. And it's the right thing to do, obviously. He's not injury prone, despite one bad injury. We're doing our best to keep it that way after his full recovery. COYG

@@Ghfjgjggj123shdhfnfmdk Mehmet Ali does almost every position like our senior team do, for obvious reasons, specially left back. I watch U21 regularly, Lewis Skelly has been developing into a great young inverted left back for us. In fact he's the player with the best understanding of the game among his peers, ahead of fan favorites like Nwaneri. He played first half as a midfielder and Timber as LB, but Timber didn't run back to LB like an inverted fullback does off the ball. He only was there (left back) in the first phase build up and didn't cover back, and even that rarely happened later in the first half. Imagine how Odegaard sometimes slots in our back line to help Saliba in build up.
The reason Timber wouldn't drop back to LB is clearly his current fitness level and us handling it carefully to ease him back perfectly.

I still think he has a little while to go to reach full match fitness and sharpness. He needs to trust his body again which takes time psychologically but becomes easier as the fitness and confidence improves . I don't think Arteta would risk him this season. Probably better to build that fitness over the next 3 months so he'll be ready in preseason

This feels like Zinchenko's pokemon evolution. All of the ball skills and then some. The ball IQ to take better risks. The speed to break the lines with his dribbling, not just his passing.

Looks like his brilliant ability on the ball is intact. His defensive skills will come back to normal with sharpness. The little cushion down and some of the tackling is what I’m referring to with the sharpness needing to come back. Hopefully he still fulfills his huge potential
In preseason he was my favorite player on this team. What could have been but water under the bridge and delighted he’s close to a first team return.
