  • Former Pantera vocalist Phil Anselmo has sincerely apologized for his racist actions, which Scott Ian, a Jew, called "vile" and asked Phil to show how much he "loves everybody" with him putting his money where his mouth is.

Phantom Lord it’s called context buddy. It also is an explanation for his recommended donation. They mention it because Phil literally threw a seig heil. A Nazi salute, and then did the three finger wave, a symbol of oath for the SS. Of course they’re gonna explain why Scott took particular issue with Phil’s actions. He’s a Jew, Anselmo engaged in Nazi symbolism. It’s really common sense but of course someone had to whine about how “identity” was brought into on a video about someone literally saying white power.

    • @jayt7178

Phantom Lord the problem is not the labels, the problem is unearned and ignorant reverence for an inalienable and arbitrary measure of self worth. Racism is the problem, choosing how to identify is not.

At the same time it has made most of us live our lives through computer screens. Now 90% of the BS said on youtube, I honestly believe, would never be said to a person face 40 years ago. It is so easy to curse a computer screen, but very few would have the balls to curse Phil to his face. Matter of fact many would be trying to get his autograph on their copy of Far Beyond Driven lol. These screens have really turned the world cold. People are no longer human to commentors, They are just gigs and ram that that can be called anything or treated any way. It's scary too because once a nation starts to dehumanize any group of people and make them something other than an actually human with feelings and needs...destruction always follows.

If any conclusion can be made from Phil Anselmo's behavior over the years he appears to be pro Jewish. This whole thing is sad, there is so much blatantly acceptable anti-Semitism in France and in the rest of Europe, and somehow people think Phil Anselmo is the problem. Scott saying that he he has "zero tolerance.... No matter what the context" in my opinion is a bad way to look at the situation. Realistically, it will be very very long before racism is abolished. And the idea of wanting racism completely out of anyone reach, understanding, and acknowledgement so to speak, is only showing the public, that racism is something to fear and is something powerful. All I'm saying, is that approach is what gives racist actions, and racism in general its power. Don't get me wrong, if 100 percent of people complied to neglecting racism, it wouldn't be there, but also if 100 percent of people who were not racist ignored it, you would also get the same result. Also I would like to point out this. This may not be directly racist, but i guarantee some people will see it as racist. Scott Ian released an album with S.O.D called "Speak English Or Die". So his "no matter what the context" argue ment is kind of a contradiction. I mean of course Phils was much more direct, but none the less in the end he was being sarcastic, and hey Scott wasnt doing much different with this album. Though it wasn't direct poke at a race of people, nobody can deny that some people will see racism in that album name.

If Phil's not a racist, I'd like to see him apologize by taking better care of himself. Dude is obviously carrying a lot of self-inflicted wounds and (especially if he's not a racist) I'd hate to see him end up like Scott Weiland and so many, many others from the metal community who left this world far too soon. And yeah, this ain't the first time that Phil's said something...inappropriate...and it ain't gonna be the last, chances are. But I recall a piece in the Bible where Jesus said, "Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone." No one threw any rocks that day...and the older guys dipped away from the situation first because they KNEW their hands were the dirtiest. I can accept Phil's apology---because, fellow headbangers, I'm gettin' old, old enough to know that some things can neither be washed off or lived down...
And if he is a racist? Don't know about now, but once upon a time it was said that the USA's a free country and as such a person is allowed to set his own mark. There's a lot of real estate between making a racist comment onstage and lighting a cross on someone's lawn or shooting a bunch of people at Bible study. I personally have never heard any stories of Phil Anselmo assaulting anybody in a "hate crime." Hey, if George Wallace repudiated his racist ways, someday Phil might too...if he's a racist in the first place.
I'm a huge Anthrax fan, and I (still) have crazy respect for Scott Ian...but for him to basically attempt to extract cash from Phil over this? Draw your own conclusions, folks...

I honestly don't think phil is genuinely racist. in Panteras heyday, maybe he maybe he wasn't I'm not sure because I wasn't alive for most of their career. but anyway, I honestly in my heart don't think this man harbors hatred of other races in his heart, I really don't get that vibe from him. I think what happened at dime bash is he was drunk and acting stupid, we all do it, and he did something he shouldn't have. he's not the only person who says dumb racist shit in a non-serious format while intoxicated, a lot of us do that jokingly I think but him being a person in public view people make too big a deal out of it. this overly liberal sensitivity is seeping into music now and it fucking sucks and you idiots cry as soon as someone says something you don't like.

Why is it that more than half of the people in here criticizing Phil Anselmo for his racism (and deservedly so) are posting Stormfront-tier arguments about Jews in the same breath? Maybe you folks should do something about your own racism before criticizing Phil's. Just saying.

how can so many people dislike this video? it's simply stating a fact that he was wrong and take his apology how you wish. I always personally saw phil as somewhat of a racist. even rob flynn spoke out about this. why couldn't you just play a show honoring a fallen bandmate and leave out the bigotry?

Phil is a f'd up individual. I dig Pantera, and feel bad for the way Phil's life has played out.

I've seen it in metal before.. how do I feel about it? Tbh if you take those actions seriously and believe in what you say when you make statements like that; you are not cool in my book. I know some people like to joke around that's fine but if for one second you believe any of that crap, you're not cool at all.
