Yes, I was shocked to hear that and glad to hear that they are bringing some of it back. The south may have been told to free the slaves, but with Jim Crow laws they made sure that they had no real freedom. Since we're going to pay a price, wouldn't it make more sense to spend that money on mitigating climate change instead? Clearly there are employers who need unskilled labor to do jobs that have been proven to never want to be done by Americans (agriculture, meat packing, etc). Open up seasonal permits and other job visas, make people apply so they have a chance to come here and work if the work opportunity exists….and allow them to travel back home during low season. They absolutely will! Second, couple that with strict border crackdowns nd immediate returns to country of origin….NOT Mexico bc then you create a problem there which will again be solved by having people cross the border and flee back to the U.S. if you’re from China, Haiti, Honduras, Colombia, Venezuela…then that’s where you’ll be deported to….
