Longyearbyen, Svalbard

- For the second part of our day at Longyearbyen, the world's northernmost town, we have a nice lunch and then walk around town a little to get a taste of this unique, rustic, but also modern town. From the interactions of the permanent residents and the playfulness of the kids, it seems that people here have a comfortable and happy life. No one is born here - many have come as visitors and have stayed! We then board our expedition ship to start our Arctic adventure circumnavigating the Svalbard archipelago.
Booked a trip to Longyearbyen for April 2023.
That's awesome! That time of the year is the shoulder period between polar night and midnight sun, so you will probably be getting almost day long sunsets 😀 I'm sure you will have a wonderful time!
Hey, is it a guided tour? Im planning for a trip in April 2023.
@@kartikeyat Nope, So far I only booked a sas flights 23 - 26 April and hotelstay. I will start looking for activities after next week.
@@peterhedberg9528 @Kartik Doonite If you are interested, the email of the guide that gave us the driving tour (posted separately) is jil@janergie.de. She was really nice and fun.
@@NancyIoannidis thanks a lot.
What a fantastic video. I love that you show regular people going about their lives on Svalbard, like the restaurant employees, kids on bikes and playing outside, and people with dogs and kids. Also, the narration was excellent and the camera work very easy to see and follow. Thanks so much for sharing! I live in the US and have painted many scenes from Svalbard and would love to go there.
Thank you so much for your kind words Julia ☺️ Glad you enjoyed the video, but I hope you do get to go because pictures and video do not do justice to the majestic scenery of the area. It is truly inspiring!
Really nice job of helping us get a feel of walking the streets of Longyearbyen. I felt like I was there. I like your follow through in how you identified things with notation afterwards. And I liked your follow through while filming. For instance you heard about the reindeer and then you follow through with showing us that! Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. I appreciate visiting there vicariously! You did a beautiful job portraying it all.
Wow! You made my day with your kind comments! Thank you very much. Very glad you enjoyed the video 🤗
I love your narration!
That's so sweet of you to say! Thank you very much. Glad you enjoyed it 🤗
Wonderful ❤️
Thank you very much ❤️
Thank you for the video, it brings back memories of me living in the Aleutian Islands back in the 70's!!😊❄
Oh, that sounds wonderful! I envy you for having such a wonderful genuine non-touristy experience! 🤗
Thank you very much! Interesting video. Lucky you. I'm looking forward to the next videos. The reindeer was so cute.
Yes, the reindeer was adorable and now I'm even more glad I got to see one! At the time I thought it would be the first of many because they told us they are common in Svalbard, but it was the only one I saw. It was an absolutely amazing trip, so no complaints 😉 we got to see seals, walruses, and many polar bears. Plus the place itself is magnificent, so yes, we were very lucky and blessed!
Excellent and informative video
very detailed, thank you!
My pleasure Tanja 🤗
Great video - I’ve booked to visit in August ‘23 👍
Wow! That's great! Have a wonderful time 🤗
A wonderful video that I watched more than ten times. I did not get bored. Nice greetings from Morocco. Welcome to Morocco. Bye
Wow! Thank you very much! I visited Morocco a few years ago and had a wonderful time. Very colorful and interesting country. My friend got some amazing bargains that she still enjoys. The tree climbing goats in Essaouira were memorable and the fresh oysters were the best I've ever had🤗
very interesting and nice! thank you!
My pleasure! Very glad you enjoyed it 🤗
Very nice. I enjoyed your video very much.

Wow! That's so impressive! Congratulations on your accomplishment. I'm sure you are in a very special small group that can say they have done that. It must be wonderful to have that memory 🤗
Exceptionally excellent video of a different world . In which month u went there sir and what was the temperature then ? I wish I could've gone there ever .
Thank you very much! We went in August and it was in the 50s. Comfortable with a jacket. It sounds like you love exploring so I believe you will go one day 🤗
Awesome. l would love to live there.
Yes, they have a wonderful sense of community and the scenery is gorgeous! 🤗
22:25 “Hey, you yellow thing, don’t block my view” 😂😆🤣
Yeah... How dare it? 😅 Just kidding - glad you had a laugh Michelle 🤗
A beautiful place worked in the mine nice people
Wow - You actually worked in the mine?? That must be a great first-hand experience to have!
Svalbard, a place with 9 months winter per year and the remaining 3 months a very cold summer!
Yes, it's not for everyone, but some people absolutely love it! 😉
Nice video!
Thank you very much. I'm glad you enjoyed it 🤗
Morocco is a country of generosity, hospitality, security and safety. Welcome you and your family here in the city of Beni Mellal, an area known for its mountains, waterfalls and stunning nature. If you wish to come, welcome and a thousand welcome, my dear.
Thank you very much!!! Beni Mellal sounds really stunning. I hope I'm blessed to make it there one day 😊
7:33 is the green statue a Loch Ness climbing toy?
It's a dinosaur. There have been many prehistoric discoveries in Svalbard, including a complete skeleton of a unique species named Ophthalmothule cryostea. So the dinosaur sculpture at the kindergarten playground represents that history. The kids seem to love it 🙂
Nice people over there GOD loves you all blessings
Thank you very much! Blessings are always appreciated 🙏 🤗

@@NancyIoannidis One day I'll get to sValbard
I want visit there in end of October I hope not dark
I think that will be the beginning of the polar night! It will be a wonderful new experience. I hope you will be able to see the Northern lights 😊 Best of luck!
My wish is to visit this country and live there, unfortunately I do not have a visa
You do not need a visa to live and work in Longyearbyen. They only require that you have the finances to support yourself, so either have a job lined up or enough funds until you do.
Wo ist die Pyramide???
What are you talking about?
Unfortunately, we did not have time to visit Pyramiden. The boat tours from Longyearbyen take almost the whole day, which would be great if I had the time. The abandoned Russian settlement sounds very interesting and mysterious and the place is supposed to be exquisitely preserved for an almost ghost town. You never know... Maybe next time, if I'm lucky 🤗

Every state in the USA should put limits on alcohol consumption.
That would probably be unpopular, but it would help prevent certain problems.
@@NancyIoannidis I think every partner or ex of an alcoholic would go for it.
I wish we had that here in the u s a
Madam pls can u help me to find job in Svalbard Norway,
Try facebook.com/groups/vacantes.svalbard/ and finn.no, which is a Norwegian job and sales platform. Things are a little tight right now due to the recovery of the pandemic, but keep trying. Best of luck!
