  • Wondering what to eat in Zagreb Croatia? In this vlog, we take you on a traditional Croatian Food Tour. We indulge in several Croatian dishes such as burek, štrukli, and duck with mlinci. It was our first time trying traditional Croatian food, and we can't say enough good things about the food in Zagreb.
The first stop on our Zagreb food tour was at Quahwa. It's a cute coffee shop and roastery. Zagreb has a huge coffee scene and this place serves up a good cup of coffee to start your day.
Our next stop was breakfast at Burek. Burek is in Dolac Market, the main market where Zagreb locals buy their food. Burek serves the tasty Croatian pastry with cheese, meat, or apple. We flushed it all down with some yogurt. We took some time exploring Dolcac Market. The market is a must see experience in Zagreb to get a feel for the city.
After breakfast, we headed down the charming Tkalčićeva Street to Mali Medo. This pub serves local beer and has a huge outdoor terrace. When the weather is nice, this is the perfect place to hang out. Tkalčićeva Street has plenty of cafes and restaurants and well worth a stroll.
For a quick lunch we made our way to Pingvin. This legendary fast food sandwich shop is a Zagreb institution. Here we tried the prosciutto and cheese sandwich and a hotdog. The garlic sauce at Pingvin is yummy!
For desert, we visited La Štruk to try the popular traditional Croatian dish štrukli. This famous dish can be boiled or baked and it consists of dough, cottage cheese, sour cream, eggs, and various fillings. We tried the blueberry štrukli, and it was delicious.
The last place on our Zagreb food tour is Purger. Here we dined in their courtyard terrace. Purger has been serving Croatian food since 1932. Here we tried the calamari and duck with mlinci. Mlinci is similar to Yorkshire pudding and pairs nicely with the duck. Both dishes were excellent.
It was a lot of fun trying Croatian cuisine. We hope you now know where to get some of the best food in Zagreb. Zagreb is a great city that is well worth a visit.

The burek was probably my favourite, very close to and probably an adaption of the Turkish börek - not sure which came first 😁

Burek was yummy! I wish we would have tried Burek with other fillings.

Burek is a remnant from the Ottoman invasion of the Balkans, so yep it's basically a turkish word for a pie.

"Sir i vrhnje" literally translates to "cheese and sour cream", it's not a type of cheese 😉
