  • On March 28, 2015, our giant river otter family welcomed three new pups. The two males and one female join their juvenile siblings born in September 2014. Historically there has been a high infant mortality rate for giant otters in captivity so these two litters are very exciting occurrence for the LA Zoo and zoo community at large.

    Great parents!
I remember the days when the rivers I lived by were as clean and pristine, water pools with them were like emeralds - reflecting the canopies of the high, green trees - And then there were these little perros de agua (otters) playing their little games, hunting, and eating. The sunlight coming through the canopies made the scene surreal, but it was normal then to be that way. Now everything die away, the rivers are gone along all those who lived with them, trees are no longer them. All that remains is the rocks where these little guys used to relax.
Best of wishes to this family!
