ANTHROPOID is based on the extraordinary true story of “Operation Anthropoid,” the code name for the Czechoslovakian operatives’ mission to assassinate SS officer Reinhard Heydrich.
Heydrich, the main architect behind the Final Solution, was the Reich’s third in command behind Hitler and Himmler and the leader of Nazi forces in Czechoslovakia. The film follows two soldiers from the Czechoslovakian army-in-exile, Josef Gabčík (Cillian Murphy) and Jan Kubiš (Jamie Dornan), who are parachuted into their occupied homeland in December 1941. With limited intelligence and little equipment in a city under lock down, they must find a way to assassinate Heydrich, an operation that would change the face of Europe forever.

A recent, good, film is Masaryk. Benes doesn't come out very well. But it is about time English speakers recognised the contribution of the Czechs - including Josef František who was one of the best pilots in the RAF.

Great movie! I am working now on a documentary on this topic. Already made some trailer from these real places.
That was some sacrifice they made and what a price the people and the country paid for it. But well done Sean Ellis for producing such a brilliant movie. Having read the late Callum McDonald's book "The assassination of Reinhard Heydrich" I think Anthropoid was just like reading his book. Great book to read and its a shame Callum died far to young. I think he would have enjoyed this movie. Anyway we must remember our dead or we have buried them twice.

Heydrich was not the number 2 after Hitler in 1942...that would be Herman Goering then Heinrich Himmler ...Heyrdrich was the number guy 2 in the entire SS under Himmler (SS-3)..no doubt he was high ranking Nazi ..but not as high as being the number guy in the govt. under Hitler ...though had had lived he may have appointed by Hitler to that type of deputy style level ..especially in say late 44
I was thinking the same after watching the trailer. Heydrich was only second within the SS, there were plenty of people above him.
Perhaps they were going with the fact that he was seen as Hitler's potential successor.

All the Nazi Germany movies are fascinating, it's cool seeing the history come to life...
This is not a history. This is a pure fiction. Almost nothing in the picture is as it actually happened.
The point is, with all these Disney type movies, if it gets people interested in part of history they previously knew nothing about, then it's good. Or you can be a purist and make your own fil-um that is historically accurate - that no one will watch !
Nonsense! You can shoot a historicaally accurate movie that would be successful too. And if you want to make a blockbuster what prevents you to situate a fiction story into a real historical era? This picture is merely a B-class Hollywood action movie.

I will not disagree with you about this fil-um, but if you want to make it historically accurate you would also show the suffering of Heyrich's wife and children etc. Agree with that too ?

It is not Russian english, some of the actors are Czech (as the whole operation). So it is more English with a czech accent ;-)

When I married my wife in 1991 the brave men of this operation had been ignored by the Communist authorities for 40yrs. Today the Cz's rightly celebrate their bravery, but I am uncomfortable with the reasoning 'their operation and the destruction of Lidice made the W allies recognise the original Cz borders'. That to me is a nonsense after the defeat of the Nazi's the W allies had a moral duty to recognise the old borders (although expelling Germans is another matter).
Churchill and the British decided 'to set Europe alight' at the expense of the common people. Right or wrong, it should be recognised the people who suffered the most were the common Cz's.
