  • The highly requested wall tablet setup guide is finally here! In this video I'll take you through my current wall-mounted tablet setup, and how to hopefully get the dashboard working on your home assistant instance.
    Also, shoutout to @mattper on CZcams and GitHub for heavily inspiring the layout for the dashboard. You can find him here: github.com/matt8707/hass-config. And while you're at it, be sure you check out his latest project, HA Fusion, which might be the best (and by far easiest) HA dashboard I've ever seen. I was toying around with it a couple of weeks ago and it looks absolutely AMAZING 🤩 (github.com/matt8707/ha-fusion)
    Questions? Let me know in the comments, and I'll be happy to help you out.

    *FORGOT TO MENTION THIS IN THE VIDEO:* I use a HACS frontend repository also called WallPanel for displaying the screensaver when the tablet isn't being used. The documentation is quite extensive so hopefully it's not too difficult to get working; here's a link if you want to try it out yourself: my.home-assistant.io/redirect/hacs_repository/?owner=j-a-n&repository=lovelace-wallpanel&category=plugin

    • @itsmejimmylandry

      That's probably because you installed the wallpanel HACS component that shows a screensaver. You can either delete it entirely from HACS or change the "enabled" parameter under the wallpanel config entry to "false". However note that deleting it entirely will mean that the sidebar doesn't automatically get hidden.

    Thanks for the vid! Any risk of battery over charging to bloat/fire?

    • @itsmejimmylandry
      @itsmejimmylandry  Před měsícem

      @msgmi most modern tablets have technology built in that prevents the battery from overcharging and posing a fire hazard. However, if you're still paranoid like me, you can use a smart plug to automate the charging process. Just install the HA app on the tablet, and set up an automation to turn on the plug when the battery drops below a certain threshold and back off when it's sufficiently charged. I have mine set up to kick on when the tablet drops below 65% and back off when it reaches 80, as I read l-ion batteries tend to last longer when kept within that range.

When the page is displayed on my Fire tablet, I am getting three little shadow boxes around the date and time. There are curved corners on each side of the time and date. 3 on the left side and 3 on the right. Interestingly, when the page is shown in my browser, there are no box effects in this area. Just straight lines on each side of the side panel as it should be. Any ideas what is causing this?

    • @itsmejimmylandry
      @itsmejimmylandry  Před 3 měsíci

      You can use card-mod to manually remove the shadow element; I added instructions to the bottom of the GitHub repo in the description on how to go about doing that. Absolutely no idea what causes it but using card-mod should prevent it from showing up again.

    • @itsmejimmylandry
      @itsmejimmylandry  Před měsícem +1

      @irukafx glad you liked the dashboard and video! For the lower buttons, I use browser-mod to show a popup with further controls based on each button. So, for the scenes button, the popup shows mushroom template cards that activate my most commonly used scenes. You can put pretty much anything you want in the popups, the documentation explains how to do that: github.com/thomasloven/hass-browser_mod. And for the phu icons, you'll want to install custom brand icons, which can be done via HACS.

      @@user-hz7bi8lz4mEssentially you’ll just want to edit the individual tiles that are showing an error to direct them to items that exist in your smart home. He touched on this near the middle of the video. As an example: Think about it as if you and a friend swapped all desktop shortcuts from each other’s computers, then expected things to still work properly. This wouldn’t work because the shortcuts are still looking for files that aren’t there anymore. His lights aren’t in your home, so you’ll need to tell each tile which lights exist in your home. It’s very time consuming, but the only way unfortunately.

       @itsmejimmylandry At 05:08 you're showing your URL. I was able to retrieve your IP through that. Might want to blur that.

    wallpanels are so much overrated these days. at least, for what they are used. the same is for nfc controlled stuff. it is just uncomfortable.
    everything you need, you are better and more comfortable just by voice control e.g. over google, alexa etc. There are just a few exceptions. e.g. LED control for differen custom color type (if you arent using presets). Or if you want to look at a chart which shows you energy consumption over a preriod and those stuff.
    apart from that: voice control or automatically event triggered e.g. by a motion sensor. nobody wants to run to a tablet to activate a charger. its just sensless

    All that content in under 15minutes!!! Great work.
    Tired of other creators trying to stretch little bits of information over 30+ minute videos 🥱
