  • *A re-upload of the last version where the sound was going in and out. The sound is hopefully improved and I've also trimmed the longer clips to keep more of a flow for the review.
This week, I review the powerful fact-based drama, At Close Range.
At Close Range is a 1986 American neo-noir[2] crime drama film directed by James Foley from a screenplay written by Nicholas Kazan, based on the real life rural Pennsylvania crime family led by Bruce Johnston Sr. which operated during the 1960s and '70s. It stars Sean Penn and Christopher Walken, with Mary Stuart Masterson, Crispin Glover, Tracey Walter, Christopher Penn, Eileen Ryan, David Strathairn and Kiefer Sutherland in supporting roles.

The Drinker brought me here, and I'm very impressed. I never saw this movie, but that era of filmmaking has this quality that adds to the grit in movies. Nowadays with digital film and the push button application of filters, everything looks like the pages of a glossy magazine. Movies from the 80s are more like looking at a drawer full of old polaroids (literally and figuratively these days). It's the difference of life how you live it versus a matrix life ideal self image. It's also so strange to see movies that were their own self contained stories back then and not part of decade spanning franchises. Just the look and "feel" of the movie awoken something in me, and I intend to give this one a watch. Thanks.

Nah, the sound was a bit loud in certain places, but should be better now and i trimmed the clips to keep to improve the pace.
