    We use a clip of No.2 Doubles Player, Ivan Dodig, to cover how and when to poach in doubles. We also cover the idea that players need to think about the probability of the ball going in a certain area and how to act on those ideas to make successful poaches. Thank you for watching!

    Poach often early in the match. Mix in head fakes often. Returner is team captain each point. Poach more the better your volley is.

      Great input. I often tell players if they mess up a poach or get burnt to go out and try the poach the very next point. (Obviously not all the time because then your opponents will know!)

    Good explanation, sir!
    Congratulactions!

    Great video and explanation. These shots looks simple but there is so much strategy behind it. The poacher in this case waits for the other player to focus on the ball before changing direction. That gives no opportunity for the player returning the shot to see poachers position.

    If the return of serve was deep landing in the alley, do you step forward and towards alley or still give up alley with probability of middle ball still?...I like changing the mindset to probability...thank you

      Hi James, it's called OnForm. It used to work on laptops, but it's been having some issues. I'm hoping they will fix it soon.

      No problem. It's called OnForm but it is a paid subscription of about $45 per month.

    Good video. What if the server lobs the poacher on 3rd shot? By being close to the net the opportunity to lob is greater for server on 3rd shot. While pros can take advantage of lobs, 3.5-4 level players cannot smash deep lobs well and the best they can hope for is that the returner hits a respectable baseline shot. So the message is: know your opponent’s style! When backing up are they likely to hit through middle of court or lob?

      Great distinction! Players at a lower level might lob a bit more when backing up. So you can start to play the percentages on that, too, and anticipate that high ball!

    Wtf is Ruud doing staying back when serving to the woman? If he'd come in like a proper doubles player, that return would have given him an easy put-away...

      Many players have abandoned the serve and volley in doubles!

    • @nancycm
      @nancycm Před 4 měsíci +1

      He’s not a doubles player, so his habits are ingrained. Dodig is one of the best dubs players in the world. Ruud is also the best Norwegian male player by orders of magnitude so he plays almost all the United Cup matches for Norway where men are needed. It’s really not a fair comparison, but good for the purposes of this video.

    On recreational average level. The net player has setup shop just close enough to alley to cover it completely at all time and just not close enough to the net to touch it with the racket. Only attempt to volley any thing in striking distance. Also the baseline player has no clue he has to help his net player. Playing alley to alley crosscourt until either one makes a mistake or one of the net players has a temporary stroke genius and leaves his camp out into the unknown.😅 often way before contact point and get passed in the alley confirming their believe to never leave camp again.
