- Iain Macleod was, with Joseph Chamberlain, one of two great Colonial Secretaries of the 20th century. In the early 1960s, he ensured the rapid ending of Britain's African empire. This allowed Britain to avoid the imperial traumas which afflicted France and Portugal. If the African ex-colonies choose to remain in the multi-racial Commonwealth, that in large part is due to Iain Macleod.

Very well delivered and huge details on the intricacies of independence from places like Nyasaland!
Next 10 years is pivotal for big parts of Africa.
A criticism I’ve heard of MacLeod was that he represented the British policy of trying leave their colonies as soon as they could get out without proper concern or preparation for the effects on the majority or minority population of each country
Some may argue however, that it was no longer our concern and that would be the job of an overbearing colonial power.
