It is very interesting to see this famous quote in it's full context, it is actually a lot less absurd sounding when you hear it in it's full usage. It actually makes a lot of sense.

I chretien was heroic and intellectually honest in this moment more than any politician I can think of. “a proof is a proof and a good proof is when it’s proven” years later we can all see how even though saddam hussein is a bad guy, it’s a bad idea to remove him from power. I wonder if all the idiots who laughed at this clip would have liked it if our country had gone to war in iraq. I’ve been cringing at all the canadians chortling at chretien for this for over 30 years. the whole time he’s shrugging like “whatever, guy”. legend.
