Quick note: in newer Obsidian versions, to create a checklist (at least on Windows), you'll need to press **CTRL+L** instead of **CTRL+Enter key**
This behavior can be changed to whatever combo you'd like to use if you go to "Settings > Hotkeys > Toggle checkbox status"

FYI, you can put non-inline footnotes wherever. You don't need to put them at the bottom of the page. Either way, they will show up at the bottom in reading mode. And you can give each footnote a meaningful name instead of calling them 1, 2, 3, etc. The numbering shown in reading mode is automatic anyway, so the numbers you specify are meaningless. You can call it footnote 72, but if it's the first one on the page, it'll be called 1 in reading mode.

An efficiency note when linking to headers:
When it drops down the list, highlight the one you want and hit tab. It will autofill with it and leave you inside the double brackets so you can follow up with a # or whatever instead of having to go back into the brackets to complete the link.

Thanks FromSergio for your extremely helpful videos.
Cristiano, the caret symbol ^ from the keyboard set which I must use ("U.S."), is not the same character that Obsidian needs for this to work (although they look almost identical). I changed momentarily to another keyboard set (on the Mac: System Preferences > Keyboards > "U.S. International - PC") and it worked. I copied and pasted the correct caret symbol ^ into an Obsidian starred note (easily accessible), and returned the keyboard set to "U.S.". I paste this character every time I need to create footnotes - it's a bit time consuming but it works. (I don't know yet how to create a shortcut in Alfred or Keyboard Maestro to input this character in Obsidian, but it is certainly possible).
I runned into another problem today (probably also related to my limited knowledge). After watching this video I learned that a plugin isn't necessary to create footnotes, so I uninstalled the plugin which I had previously used. (Unfortunately, I was in a hurry and can't remember it's name).
The problem is that although I can see older footnotes in Preview Mode (created months ago with that plugin), I can't edit these older footnotes anymore. They don't even appear in Edit Mode - although in Preview Mode their numbering updates correctly to accommodate newly created footnotes (those created today, after the plugin was uninstalled). The new footnotes seem to be working fine.
I'd like to extensively use footnotes in Obsidian from now on. Please, am I right to think that this function is already very solid, even without any special plugin being needed? (The footnotes I created in the past are not important - they were mere tests).
      Thank you very much, everyone.

Switch to reading mode to view the changes.
Quick note: in newer Obsidian versions, to create a checklist (at least on Windows), you'll need to press *CTRL+L* instead of *CTRL+Enter key*
This behavior can be changed to whatever combo you'd like to use if you go to "Settings > Hotkeys > Toggle checkbox status" , Switch to reading mode to view the changes.
