    I believe that a slower court favors Big John because his movement becomes less of an issue. You can't create a tennis court slow enough to hinder his serve and so, it becomes a little harder to execute a game plan against him.

      The court color could have contributed, but, I think it was the players, too. Isner, Querry, Kyrgios, Federer, Zverev, and Cilic are all known for having excellent serves. Secondarily, players like Sock, Tiafoe, and Thiem have very effective serves. Third, many of those players aren't known for being excellent returners. Finally, as others have said, this is an exhibition tournament after all. The players might not be throwing their bodies around as much as if ranking points were at stake.

    Nadal needs a slow court for his game to be at its most effective. One of the reasons why I've always felt that Federer and even Djokovic where always the more well rounded players regardless of slams won. This past US open was one of the slowest hard courts at a slam that I've ever seen. When Nadal doesn't have a lot of time to set up his shots you see the results. That's why Rafa loves to hang out 10-15 feet behind the baseline.

    • @VelhaGuardaTricolor
      @VelhaGuardaTricolor Před 6 lety +5

      The Slower the court the more you have to PLAY tennis. the fastest the court the more you can get away with playing less and just serving your way into victories.
      The public wants to see tennis matches not boring big serve contest.
      The longer the Rally the more exciting it is for anyone watching. That is universal.
      A real shame there is only one GRAND SLAM played on the most difficult surface there is.

    • @brianshin3209
      @brianshin3209 Před 6 lety +5

      You have your opinions and I have mine. I've played competitively; not anywhere near a pro level but at the national junior lvl and have played matches against Donald Young and John Isner so I don't think I'm just speaking out of my ass with no experience to draw from. You might say longer rallies take more skill but that's all a matter of perspective. In the tennis world we call players who love to engage in long rallies and grind their opponents to death "pushers". I'd argue it takes just as much skill if not more to play offensive and go for clean winners early in a point. The more offensive you play the less margin for error you have. I say Nadal is less well rounded then Federer because if you where to eliminate clay courts he wouldn't be nearly as dominant. I still feel that Nadal is among the greatest of all time but not as great as Federer or perhaps even djokovic. Plus, Nadal has always struggled on indoor courts. That's not an opinion but a fact.

    Nadal played so shit today, he didn't play well against Sock either. Indoor anything just does not suit Nadal's game. You'd think this court would suit Nadal as it is so freaking slow and yet he could get no pace on his forehands and his backhands were the worst I have seen in years. And Isner probably played the match of his life, everything was working, and he has a big serve, and without it would get easily beat by everyone in the top 50, but heyho that is servebots for you. Nadal was playing worse than Montreal and Cincinnati. He needs to just step in a bit and hit through the ball, like he did in 2013, and 2015, when he had very solid indoor seasons. If he doesn't find something, then he will get beaten by average players or players that rely on their serves. I do think Nadal played very well in both of his doubles matches tho, but then again he, sock and federer, are the only ones who have had real success in doubles, and Nadal is a class doubles player. Anyway it was a great competition but it does worry me as a Nadal fan for the remainding few months left of the season.
