I love this channel. Todderbert is clearly a major enthusiast at levels that speak to me. The only issue I have is......I watch a review.....I want to buy that radio!!! Magic magic magic. If I found myself browsing your collection in real life......I'd never leave (and not in a weird way either). Thank you for your careful, considered expertise.
My orange Tecsun pl-368 literally just arrived today. Thanks for the great review. It definitely helped me make up my mind on getting this particular receiver and adding it to my collection. Just waiting for it to fully charge and then take it out for a spin.
I’ve been looking at this for a while but I was waiting and hoping that you review it! Thank you
I'd like to see some more band scans of this radio!
I love the Tecsun line of radios, but gosh, it does seem like they are in competition with themselves at times. Good review as usual.
I agree, it looks good in orange.
Maybe a short wave band scan soon? I love this radio!
enjoyed it!
Hej Todderbert and good morning or or rather evening where you live thanks for reviewing the Tecsun PL-368. What I like about the new Tecsun PL-368 is that now we have a keypad as well love it. Absolutely I also like that orange color and fun to have such a color because I have no such color on my radio devices. I'll watch this review more on my smart tv later the 52-year-old young man just woke up take care have a nice week.
@@todderbert Hej catching up yes you will eventually do that it's a bit hard sometimes for me when I order from things from us sometimes. I forget the time and wonder why they have not sent my stuff ??? And then I remember take it easy it is just the middle of the night in the states so it can be hard sometimes with different time zones. Take care mr Todderbert and yes the Tecsun PL-368 nice one gonna order that sweet radio.
Mine arrived from China today. I bought it off Ali Express. I must say, I’m impressed with it. The form factor, direct frequency entry, sensitivity and the colour make this radio worth buying. It also has the same “hidden” features as the PL-330.
Great FM reception but not a good way to enjoy without the good headphone experience. My Pl 390 always did better with the whip antenna than the plug in wire it came with. Great functionality for such a compact radio have always liked the Tecsuns for that.
Are you planning on doing a review of the ATS100? I do not see them on Amazon, but are on Ebay. The reviews on CZcams are not very good, and you always do a great job.
If you ever do buy one, I would like to see it compared to the PL-368.
"Portable ATS100 SI4732 150K-108MHz radio receiver FM RDS AM LW MW SW SSB"
I was thinking of getting the ATS 25 max decoder but now ive seen the tecsun pl-386 I'm not sure what to do any idea which one you would buy.
LOVELY RADIO. I HAVE ONE IN BLACK COLOR
@todderbert
Between the PL-330 and this PL-368 which one has better SW reception? Thanks. Love your reviews!
They are fairly similar. Outside the PL-368 may have an advantage with the longer antenna.
Warning: there is a firmware issue with this radio. I had one sent to me to test and review and whilst I love the orange and the quirkiness of it, I soon discovered that there was a problem with the AM (MW) bandwidth function. There is a stand-by combination button press to override and activate it.
I’m not in a position yet to share this info as I have sent this info to Tecsun for consideration.
Apart from that it’s a fun radio. The 330 to me is the better buy at the moment. 👊🏻
For my fellow TDB fans… I.M. arrives at the 7:21 mark, it’s worth the wait.
Orange is the New Black. Can you upgrade the firmware and what is the most recent version? Also, can the AM antenna port be configured as SW antenna port? I’m sold after watching your video. Keep it up bro!
Has anyone else noticed the radio makes a low static hum from the speaker at all times when the radio is turned off? Put your ear to the speaker and listen. I’m wondering if I have a faulty unit.
Hi Todderbert, I was eying the PL368 since the past few months and finally great to see your review. Thinking of getting one soon.
However, I have some questions and would be grateful if you can respond. Just a week ago I had got the XHDATA D808 which is considered to be superb in MW, SW and FM bands.
I live in New Delhi and tuning in the MW I get just one local broadcast while no DX stations. Infact MW band is full of QRMs and RFI.
In the Shortwave bands I get mostly Chinese broadcasts which is very strong. With the supplied external antenna wire I tried BBC world service and other English Broadcasting radio stations without any success.
So was the case with SSB bands when I tried monitoring the Ham radio frequencies
What could be the reason for this? Will the PL368 too behave in the same way as XHDATA D808 at my location?
Hope 'Ironman' who loves these radios will assist with an appropriate response

Hi.
Though you asked Todderbert, hope he won't mind this.
In my opinion you will not gain more with the 368. You have a great radio already.
@@nap083node431 thank you very much for your response and suggestion.
Have a blessed day ahead,

In your opinion and based on your reviews, which is the portable radio with the best reception of SW/SSB in the price range of this Tecsun 368 ?
This is a great upgrade - they are going to sell a few container cars of these. I have the US version, IMO, that is the version I would tell someone to buy because of the extra features you highlighted. I have the Chinese version as well and note no difference on sensitivity and reception. Having the keypad makes this desirable as well. Wish we had radios like this in the 60’s-80’s when the bands were loaded with international stations. It’s pretty good on MW with the plug-in antenna. One thing you turned the radio toward transmitter locations but people who never owned this radio should note you can rotate the plug-in antenna itself for the same effect. kind of like an itty bitty Panasonic RF-220. Also, the knobs on the side of the plug-in antenna can be turned and reportedly aide in fine tuning - for myself I have seen no appreciable improvement doing that. The MW antenna will get blocked and not rotate full 360 if you use it with an earphone plugged-in so simply in one direction or or the other and it works fine to tune-in. There is a third party plug-in antenna that pops up on eBay, it is larger and heavier than the supplied Tecsun antenna. Beware, if you buy one use gingerly reportedly it an break the antenna jack if used roughly. I have one, it improves reception on some MW signals and I have read other comments that people like it. There is a new County Comm version with the Tecsun upgrades coming out (but no yellow,j - reportedly it is exactly the same as the PL-368 with the exception that the telescoping antenna on the CC is supposedly heavier grade metal than Tecsun used on the PL-368. Search for yourselves for more info. One last thing when I use the PL-368 with the traditional Apple EarPods they introduce interference, a scratchy noise, and to use them you have to pull them out a hair on the earphone plug - I had zero issues with any other earphones. Great overview. I really like this version it’s a lot of fun like you said.
I wonder if the issue with the iPhone earbuds is the mic connection? (4 conductor 1/8" pl;ug - normal stereo uses only 3 conductors)
So how is the AM reception on this radio?
Wow, I've just compared the FM reception on my new PL-368 & an Android cellphone. The latter catching more stations and has much clearer and stronger signal than Tecsun even with an extended antenna
That's cool. FM hasn't always been Tecsun's strong suit. SSB SW on the other hand....
Lovely radio but I have a serious problem with my PL-368 with fw version 3682, the other day I had it on charge, when I took it off charge and turned it on the AM section (MW,LW,SW) was completely deaf...even using the "hidden" feature by long pressing 3 for internal vs external antenna made no difference, it's completely useless now (except FM is fine) so is there was way to reset this radio?
The radio has no reset. Take the battery out for a few hours might reset it. If not, contact the seller, or Tecsun about this issue.
Hi thanks for your video. I would like to buy this receiver. I live in Italy. I would like to buy it to listen to AM Radio Stations. Here is my question. Does that cross-shaped AM antenna, does it boost the signal? Does it help to receive AM radio stations better?
Yes, it comes with the external MW antenna. It is a must. If you have strong local MW stations nearby, you may not need it, since the radio has a tiny internal ferrite antenna built in, but is not effective for more than thirty miles away.
Hi Todd,
Great channel keep up the good work.
I recently bought a Tecsun Pl 368. I noticed I could not use the key-pad for direct entry of shortwave frequencies in the 120 meter band (2300-2495) when I try the frequency reverts to the last set frequency on the radio. Have you found this also or do I have a software bug or malfunction. Everything else seems to work OK.
Enter 2500 and then the “enter” key (just below the 9). The 330 works like this too.
I have the GP5 I don’t get much out it other than am and fm
If this radio is so good , why my old Grundig is eating it up on FM ? My friend has bought it to get some FM stations in poor signal area , where we live , he can get 3 Fm stations , old Grundig RR 710a 10 stations . We tested in my palce .
I would complain about the small numeric buttons, but you know what, it beats NO buttons.
I thought they would be difficult to use, but found that to be opposite. They are raised high enough to make it easier to access them.
@@todderbert they’re also not that easy to press. So if you did “accidentally” press something else, it wouldn’t matter.
Pe LW cum este receptia?
Il folositi careva pe LW?
You read almost as fast as Mr Spock in Star Trek TOS. 😅
What would you recommend as a great shortwave receiver for around £100.
XHDATA D-808, or Eton Elite Executive on Sale. The Tecsun PL-660 is also an excellent option, just older tech. No mute on tuning is nice with the 660.
Which is better pl330 or pl368 please help
They function in an identical way. The PL-330 would be my first choice. The speaker sounds great.
@@user-re9rd3iz5d both the same radios. They both use the same chip and have the same features. The only difference is size. One is a pocket radio (330) and the other is a walkie talkie style (368). It depends on what you want it for. If I was going out scanning whilst on a walk or outside, I’d take the 368 with me.
Is this radio better than the Hangrongda 747? greetings and thx for demo, Levi
@@todderbert Hi again! so i got the 368, - i dont understand the "syncronous detection"?? what does it do?? i turned it on and only got more hissing sound!!
Is there any DX - LOCAL control on the radio? - i also bought the Tecsun AN-48x antenna - greetings Levi
@@MrKeys57 No DX / Local control...just reduce antenna length if needed. AM Sync is great when it works. It allows you to lock onto a side band of the frequency, and it will follow any drift, even faint signals. Plus it helps reduce side band interference as well. That is why you still use USB/LSB Sync.
Did you guys read my poems that I sent to the New Yorker?
Seems like there is no hope for am dx radios anymore it's been ages since you reviewed a small radio with above average am dx .c crane pro isn't that great to me my sattlelit 750 is as good or close but nothing smaller than boat anchors can do the job sad big bulky radios .I remember transistor radios that had better reception than my sattlelit 750 but seems those days are gone

Anyone know how to change the clock format to 12h? If it even can that is.
@@todderbert thanks! I also learned it's not like some of the other tecsun models I have used where you can hold the 5 button down to keep the screens backlight permanently on until power off, I should have looked closer before buying it's a random feature I feel like I need personally.
your voice sounds like Saul Goodman
Someone, ANYONE! PLEASE TELL ME HOW MANY HOURS I CAN GET OUT OF A BATTERY!!
I cant find anyone on the internet to give me a real answer. Most people say "Ive had it for a few days and battery life seems good."
It is a deciding factor if I get the one with AA batteries that can be replaced or if the rechargeable will suffice.
go with a AA version. the bl-5c provides eight to twelve hours of use for me before needing a recharge. longer if using headphones. The AA version should triple the time, because they are usually 3,000mAh capacity versus 1020mAh.
I'm a pretty Conservative (lifelong Republican) guy, But a lot of the shortwave right wing broadcasters are SO far out "there" that they are damn entertaining. I also really loved SW in the '70s and '80s when there were many, many English language Soviet Bloc anti Western propaganda broadcasts on SW. A real "hoot" and better by far than TV. LOL! To this day I never buy a radio without SW!
