What more can be said about Minor Threat? They have already received just about every accolade. And in my book they deserve the highest possible praise, on many fronts. First you have a band whose musicianship is beyond reproach and is held in the highest esteem by everyone who loves punk music. They write inspiring songs with some of the most intelligent lyrics ever put to music.
Their tracks on this masterpiece album feature the original blazing quartet in all their glory. Hearing these songs the first time changed many people's lives and became a youth rallying cry. It also immediately put Minor Threat in the pantheon of hardcore (the music that came after punk and spawned slam dancing)
Then you have Ian MacKaye, the singer and founder of Dischord Records, who sold Minor Threat records very inexpensively so every kid could own one. In an effort to keep the prices down I believe he lost money on some of them. But imagine the joy a kid with very little money had buying a Minor Threat record. To me that is priceless. Ian had all ages shows where no alcohol was served and the tickets were very inexpensive. . His anti-music business and anti-"rock star" attitudes are refreshing in this day and age when money and fame seem to be everyone's goal.
Minor Threat and Stiff Little Fingers are the two most inspirational punk bands I have seen. Seeing them could change one's life---and always for the better.

The original Four Old Seven Inches On A Twelve Inch compilation didn't include Minor Threat, so I'm glad you included their first two seven inches on this vid. Punk historians, take note: THIS is where it all started. Spurred on by what was happening on the west coast at the time, particularly California, these Washington D.C. bands picked up the cues, and made history. Punk rock as people knew it, at the time, would never be the same. It was now called "Hardcore" and it was out to prove that bands like The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Ramones, (Insert your favorite 1977 era band here) all had their day, but were now washed up boring old farts. Even if you weren't there, the music is timeless and still lives on, even if some of the references in the lyrics are dated, but hey, that's historical reference.

Could not agree more, never even set foot in USA. But I understand what you are saying, just from what I hear back then, what I heard mid 80s, and how evolutions have changed the music and the scenes overall, would say same for some second wave h/c too . Tell ya what SOIA - blood sweat and no tears is still essential h/c no matter where you are from. But I lost interest when the full on metal - core - swagger - blingy baggy pants wearing kids and karate kicks mosh pits came into it. Not h/c for me at all. Thank god the underground has gone more retro 1st wave styles than anything these days. Some of the new bands like Glue etc are bangin'. Something I recognize as hardcore punk at least.
